The Tsana It had been over 3 months since Knorr left The Spires, he had hit the road early one morning, black fur shining in the morning sun of Taldera. Knorr took everything he needed to start a new life in Sylira, money, herbs, his book bag and his backpack. This backpack would soon become his life as he journeyed to Sylira, he kept his food and all the herbs he gathered in this waterproof living bag. It became everything he would be able to trade when he arrived, it was his key to a new life. After 3 weeks of travel a sweaty Knorr walked into Karjin. He worked his way towards the harbor in the city and found an old captain sailing to Sylira. "I know you monkey lot are a bit weird about money, so how do you think you're gonna pay me?" the captain asked pointedly. After a couple moments of consideration Knorr spoke up in his rumbling, deep voice, “I will pay you in herbs and some small amount of gold" "Wat herbs?", asked the captain suspiciously. "I have some Delaviv, a little bit of Cigar, some Acalai leaves and a small pot of Acalai resin and" "Nah son you can get any of those herbs down in the markets. I am after a more. Effective herb." interjected the swarthy captain, "What else can ya offer me?" Knorr shook his shaggy head surprised by the rudeness of the human. He had a feeling it would come to this. He could give up on getting to Syliras or he could commit to this drastic course of action. "I will give you my next offer tomorrow, until then." "Until then.... I guess" replied the confused captain who was clearly expecting an immediate counter offer. Knorr turned on his heal, his huge Jamouran physique catching the reflection of the rippling morning water. The sea captain swallowed hard and made a mental note not to ever cross the massive Jamouran. Knorr strode back through the city; he was considering staying the night at one of the inns in Karjin but thought better of it as his 7.5ft height defiantly made him taller than any cot on offer in any tavern in any human city. He moved out of the bustle of the city and skirted around the markets so as not to attract attention. One of his kind in a city usually brought a minor gather and Knorr didn't like it when people stared at him and children poked him. So, he walked out of the city, through one of the Stoney gates and made his way towards the tree line of the forest. Has he slowly crossed the meadow towards the forest he began to make his plan. His father had once told him of how certain herbs had a stimulating effect on humans, once a human had a taste of it he was likely to do a great many things in order to feel that effect again. Before he left on his quest for Syliras he talked to a great Jamouran botanist who has some of these herbs in his collection, after many hours of slow talking and persuading Knorr convinced the botanist to part with his store of Rez or as the humans called it “R”. Rez is a potentially dangerous drug but has some medicinal uses, however most humans take it for its “downer” effects but slows reaction time down dramatically. As he settled down beneath a tree Knorr decided that his captain likely picked up a habit or two along the way and would accept his offer of the drug. Knorr crossed his legs and relaxed his mind, he started his daily meditation to retain his reminisance. He never really knew the point of reminisance the only memory given to him was how to swim which, as an ape, he had never had to use. He just hoped that in Syliras he would be able to make up for his lack of skill in remembering his past lives. He sat there all night waiting and hoping for anything at all to come back to him but alas the sun rose and nothing had come to him. Knorr gathered his backpack and book bag and started for the city. Knorr walked with purpose through Karjin cutting through a market to check the current Rez pirce in gold Mizras the docks. He walked to the birth where the boat to Syliras had been docked yesterday and found the captain smoking a pipe, know that the sea dog had a vice boosted Knorrs confidence in his gamble. If the captain rejected his offer he would either have to go back to The Spires or choose another city. “Good morning friend!”, said the captain enthusiastically though Knorr could hear the slight caution of in his voice. “I have an offer” Knorr said getting straight to the point “Okay, lemme hear it” replied the captain “I have enough Rez for three full doses, that will more than cover the fare and extra costs any extra inconvenience my size causes.” Submitted Knorr, hoping his offer was sufficient to buy himself a berth on voyage. The pause between offer and reply felt like the longest moments of Knorr’s 242-year life. “Well, well, well my Jamouran friend we have an accord. My name is Captain Withers and welcome aboard the Tsana! May I just inquire your name and we can get you papers filled out!” “Knorr”, a slight shiver ran down Captain Withers spine there was something about this giant that felt off to him. Hopefully he could get to Syliras and drop him off as fast as possible. |
