Blog Subject:  'Some Senseless Rambling' or 'Life Is Good'

I think eventually I have understood what it means to be an artist. To describe it with a metaphor: You are an instrument that is played by God Himself. A constant flow of brilliant ideas is always present in your environment, in every tree, every flower, every color and every stone. Someone who is an artist just knows how to get access to that flow, how to listen to it and write or paint or compose or carve what it is whispering in their ear.

Thanks to a great book I think I mentioned before (‘The Artist’s Way’ by Julia Cameron) I can now say that I know what writing REALLY is all about. It’s not about perfection, it’s not about grammar, it’s not about the perfect writing style like I thought until now. It’s about loving it. It’s about enjoying it and not considering it as a necessary exercise that needs to be done. Art is so much more than that! And it doesn’t matter whether it is in the form of words, colors and shapes, notes or anything else I can’t think of at the moment.

The most important thing is to have fun with what you’re doing.

I consider myself lucky that I found out at such a young age. Now I know that I don’t become one of those pathetic forgotten writers who burned their beautiful pieces of art instead of taking the leap and getting published (or even getting anything done). I will never burn or delete anything. Everything has some value, although that’s not visible at first sight. Or even at second, or third …

Anyway, I just have to keep that in mind. Today I met two other writers who are living in my town and of whom one is also participating in NaNoWriMo (yay!). We had a great talk for a little more than two hours. We laughed, we had fun, and we talked business – writing business of course. It was huge fun! I can’t believe how someone can have so much fun, such a perfect meeting with two complete strangers. At the end of the session they weren’t strangers anymore … and that’s the thing that feels best about it … I guess I can call Eva whenever I am stuck with my own writing and ask her about what she’s done in the meantime and get all jealous and motivated again.

Yet, it’s no good thing to keep writing out of jealousy, is it? Nevertheless …

Manuela has been inventing stories and writing them down since she can write which was at age 5. She somehow dragged Eva along who started around 13, according to what she told me. Eva was also the one who possesses two big drawers of notebooks filled with stories and the fantasy world she is constantly building at. She has started with 13, and keeps on re-working and adding new things, writing stories, developing complicated side-plots etc. She writes in English for which I admire her. (Now I know what i.e. means!)

This blog entry becomes more and more senseless, haha …

It’s just good to know that you’re not alone. It’s also highly motivating to know some people (personally!) whom you admire for all the work they have already done – out of sheer fun, without anyone telling them to get started. They just did it, and they still do it, although both of them are working full-time.

That’s just so cool! I guess I have a new writing crush, although I haven’t read any of their writing yet. I may ask them about it per mail. Anyway, since I don’t copy others’ writing styles anymore, I think it’s okay to have a new crush and enjoy it’s advantages.

Life is good which I suppose is the meaning of this entry.

Glad things are going well. I laughed and laughed at that NaNo thread link you sent me. I particularly enjoyed the emo pain comment, where the pain was so painful it even experienced pain and then the dig about emo in-pain English majors. ;P Sometimes artists are just the most wonderful refreshing people to be around. And I'm glad your discovering this... because when you live inside the body of an artist, its even better. So I suggest an immediate self-hug of thanks before carrying on your day.
