Canyons and teetering formations of redstone serve as old witnesses of once deep rivers and catastrophic geysers. Now a dry beautiful place, it holds hardy creatures on its cliffs and in its caves.

The Kasran Way

Known only to the Kalanue, a far ranging labyrinth of lava tubes pervades the Redstone Cliffs and beyond, winding like a tangled viper under the sand. There are many forks, through the frequent jumbles of heaped boulders makes extensive travel mostly unviable. The upper levels are mostly stable, the floor worn flat by the passage of many feet. However, there are many dangers in venturing deeper. The lower tubes are prone to crumpling, and infrequently plume with deadly gases. There are clutches of tiny, jet scorpions, of a particular type that clings to each other in pairs. They unfasten at the first sign of peril, attacking with a rare ferocity. The tubes are also lurked by pale, hugely fat worms that can reach the span of a man’s leg. Their caustic discharge causes flesh to slough away.

Many years ago, a band of hunters found themselves caught in the bare wastes of a ravine during the raging of a Hika-Zulrav. They sought refuge from the sting of choking grit, only to find that the crevice they sheltered in went back further than they’d thought. This led them to venture further. There are a handful of entries, usually found near broken earth, in fissures and tapering caves, that the tribe uses to lay up stores in case of a crisis, or for hiding. The warren of tubes is gigantic, defying even their proficiency for probing.
