It was a bittersweet moment standing in front of the inn, watching people go about their daily lives. She didn't know about their personal lives and they didn't know about hers, and so it was easy to slip into the crowd as if she was no one in particular. Because that was what she was right? No one in particular, no one that needed noticing. She wondered which way Nasim had gone, perhaps he had chosen to stay in the city. She didn't let herself care though, he was walking out of her life and now she was walking out of his.
She had barely made it a few feet away from the inn when something hit her close to her temple, sending her stepping to the side and hissing as her hand came up to touch the tender area. She turned quickly, thinking that someone was trying rob her, but there wasn't anyone close enough to her for her to tell. Her eyes darted around the crowd before looking down at what had hit her. She gasped and bent down quickly, immediately recognizing what had hit her. It was her brothers jade necklace. She picked it up in her hand and stood up, looking around the crowd to see if she could spot him, before finally looking up at the buildings across from the inn. A figure was crouched there, and she knew who it was.
For a moment she did nothing, simply staring at him and clutching the necklace tightly. She then slowly lifted the necklace and tied it around her neck, tucking the pendent beneath her scarf to hide it from view.....and to rest against her heart. She didn't know why he threw it, and she didn't care. But she was grateful for the reminder of her past life, and the promise that he had made to her. She then turned and didn't look back, heading towards the city gates with the necklace heavy around her neck. It was time to leave this place.
