Collision! ethos and pathos

Postby Gilva Snowsong on May 24th, 2014, 10:13 am

Gilva looked out to the bay, and noted how different the climate was to Avanthal. There was a contrast between the reflection of the sun on the ocean, and the snow-covered mountains. There was a hint of irony in the idea of having the heat in the ocean; and the chill on land. Even more so, this was reflected in the meeting between these two individuals. The ocean reflected the sunlight was displayed by the idea that the girl was shaped by her environment and experiences. While the snow-covered mountains was a nod to the boy being blanketed by his emotions.

She had finally given him the permission to speak, further cementing her role as the more dominant individual present. The fact that Gilva complied to her commands did nothing but assert his submissiveness. Their relationship at this point, had become that of a master and slave. Whether the girl knew it or not, the moment she took possession of his back pack; was the same moment that she took possession of Gilva. The girl turned her back on him as she spoke; which was clearly an indication of superiority since she wasn't compelled to look him in the eyes.

Upon hearing the details of the arrangement, a small smile formed across his lips. He loved to tell stories; it was a skill that was imbued within his blood. The difference between information and a story was miniscule, if the details of the story weren't fabricated, that is. "I accept the terms of your deal." he replied.

Both words and freedom escaped his lips. He had planned to acquire a loan to help fund his expenses but was fortunate enough to meet a new acquaintance and to temporarily put his trauma behind him. Unfortunately, setting the problem aside and truly facing adversity were two very different things.

Gilva's ears skewed the girls words, causing him to think that she believed that he was special. Why else would she be willing to wait for him at the same location of every night? This simply fanned the flames, and caused his ego to grow.

The two then locked eyes, and he used his grey irises to gaze into her brown hues. Since he had become indebted to her, this moment held more meaning than it probably should have. This was an acknowledgement that he would have to live to fulfill her bidding; she had metaphorically became the center of his world. And it seemed to him, that it was worth it, for she would be giving him all of the attention in the world; and he wouldn't even have to use any of his performing skills to get it. She was soothing his emotions, and essentially prevented him from completely abandoning his life in despair.

"I don't think there is any reason for you to not trust me." he answered.

Collision! ethos and pathos

Black's brown eyes had becomed locked with those grey depths and she didn't understand why he was so intent on keeping eye contact. How ever when those words left his lips, she couldn't help but be skeptical of the boy before her.

In a thieves world, there was always reason to dis-trust someone. That one person could be bought off with gold, if they had enough and death could easily be a sharp blade within the night if you crossed the wrong person.

This pretty boy, might be naive enough to think that she would believe him, but it would be his next set of actions that would determine whether she could even begin to trust him. Trust, was earned, not freely given. Her parents had to have trusted the wrong person to have been killed like they had been.

Slowly, she broke eye contact with the male, turning her back to him once again, she didn't want to peer into those eyes anymore and luckily for her, she wouldn't have to for the sun's last raze had disappeared and night had truly fallen over Zeltiva. Those grey eyes only served to remind her of the small war within herself that raged on a daily basis.

Her hands quickly gathered up her black hair, twisting it into a bun and her left hand pinned it there to the back of her head while her right hand, lifted the hood of her cloak back up and over her head and she pulled her hand out, making sure that no strands of hair was left falling out of the hood, occasionally tucking her hair further down her back.

Turning back to him, she felt secure within her cloak and gave him a brief nod, "I will be here every night at this time for one bell only. Show up if you have information to share, if not then don't bother." Turning her back to him, she began to walk off, leaving him standing there alone.

Collision! ethos and pathos

80, Spring, 514
Gilva watched her actions intently. She quickly wrapped her hair and put it in her hood. Because it was night and the fact that she wrapped her hair swiftly, he was not able to accurately see the style in which she used. It was these reasons, that caused him to believe that he had discovered a fellow Vantha. He listened to her words, and flashed a faint smile due to his mistaken revelation.

It wasn't until after she had left, did Gilva realize how rude he had been. He was so caught up within his own grief and sorrow, that he hadn't even taken the time to introduce himself to the girl. They had entered into an arrangement together and she had brought him a lot of pleasure, but he was foolish enough to not even ask for her name. Luckily, she had left him a calling card so that he would be reassured that if he were to end up his end of the bargain, this encounter would not have been their last.

The boy then walked away from the docks, turning onto West Street. On the opposite side, East street seemed to be rustling with activity, while west street seemed to be relatively calm at this time of night. The boy entered his cottage, and quickly set his down his bag. He walked towards his spear which was propped up against the wall, grasped it between his hands and began to reflect on the events that occurred throughout the day. Everything would have been completely different if he had decided to take his spear with him. In fact, he probably would have thrown it at her because he was so caught up in his sorrow. Once he was done with his recollection, he set down his spear and lay upon his bed where he quickly drifted off to sleep.

It was because of the ethical choices made by the girl, that Gilva was able to avoid dealing with his emotions. This day had revealed just how vulnerable he had became as a result of his journey. It also clearly revealed how ignorant the boy was, though this was due to his inherent personality and heritage. But it wouldn't be until these two met again, would they understand the type of situation that they had put themselves in because of their "negotiation."
