Weldric

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Birthday: 7th of Winter, AV 478
Birthplace: Sunberth

Appearance: Rough, older, wrinkled, calloused. Weldric is a man that has spent his entire life working hard and surviving, and it shows in the numerous scars, crooked nose, and so on. He's about what you'd expect out of a man that's actually managed to live this long in Sunberth.

Character Concept

Some might say Weldric is a bad man. I mean, if you make a living by kidnapping, abducting, and selling people into the possession of other people, that means you're bad right? Even if you just barely scrape by, or if you try to make sure the slave is given to a decent master, or perhaps a bad man is sold into slavery as some skewed sense of justice. Yes, Weldric is a bad man, compared to the Sunberth standard, he is just that. Standard.

Character History (WIP)

Weldric was born to a local average couple in Sunberth several decades ago. The family had it rough, but no rougher than was normal for such a city. Father worked every day, sick or healthy, on the shipyard or cutting lumber, for many years. His mother worked a series of jobs, mostly in taverns serving mediocre meals and cheap brews to travelers and locals alike. Around the age of thirteen, Weldric got into trouble, not by his choice, with some local gangs. Like many youngsters, he was practically forced into their ranks (unless he wanted to be beaten, and possibly have his parents become victims as well), where he occasionally stole, or assisted in muggings, or even just acted as a lookout for such crimes. Nothing too major.

When Weldric was fifteen, becoming a man in a sense, his father left on a ship from Sunberth, without a word or a goodbye, and never returned home. Weldric would have liked to believe his father left for work, and with every intention of coming home, simply was lost at see or met a violent fate. But no, he knew it was more likely his father had given up, and just ran away. In an odd way, Weldric couldn't blame the man, he himself couldn't imagine trying to raise a child like this. At the very least, he waited until Weldric was old enough to survive. Still, he resented him for leaving.

A few more years passed as Weldric continued as he had, working with small time thugs, running minor extortion gigs, muggings, working as a hired hand on occasion. And he managed to make it to seventeen years old when his mother was found dead, beaten to death in the city. It was never found out why this had happened to her, perhaps she owed someone money that she couldn't pay back, maybe it was a mugging gone wrong, maybe it was a rape gone too far. Regardless, the outcome was clear, Weldric was alone now.

Over the years, Weldric simply remained in this small time gangs, and when he was about twenty-seven, the group he ran with was all but extinguished. He didn't feel upset about losing all these people, he wouldn't consider them friends, they had more of a mutual survival reliance on each other. Anyway, during his last job with them, he worked as muscle for a known Slave Trader in Sunberth. And this job turned into a series of jobs, which is how he met Sjoks. Sjoks was a man few years younger than Weldric, a small guy with a mouth, but was more than ready to get downright dirty and brawl with anyone. The two of them ended up working with the Slaver so often, that they were almost partners to the man. As in, he gradually gave them more and more responsibility over guarding the merchandise, keeping them in line, and fighting off anybody that dared to rescue to steal them away. This lasted for many years, and it was what caused Weldric to realize where the money was.

The Slave business.

Now, Weldric and Sjoks never made a ton of money, they were simply hired muscle, thugs, and their employer had a habit of talking down to them. Sure, they learned a great deal from him over the years, especially Weldric, who learned the very basics of reading, writing, and a sliver of mathematics from this man. However, Weldric wasn't satisfied, he was hungry for wealth, a concept he never had experienced, but would risk his life to obtain, so he began to plan behind his employer's back, with Sjoks. Weldric never intended to steal the man's business, but he did intent to learn enough to at least start his own.

Of course, there was one night when Sjoks slipped up. It was a stupid move, but he had intended to take advantage of this young girl that was captured at the time, and when she seduced him, overwhelmed him, and freed the rest of the slaves, the three of them were all punished pretty badly. Weldric and Sjoks received the beatings of their lives, and it was a miracle they managed to escape without having their arms torn off. Their employer, however, was the mob's true target. They forced themselves into his home and destroyed everything, beat the man to death, and threw his corpse in the street before dissipating.

Since then, Weldric and Sjoks have been trying to pick of what little pieces of the business that they could, but they were both still so inexperienced.

Spring, AV 514, Weldric and Sjoks felt it was time to strike, they were going to get the business running again and take over where their predecessor was murdered (justly so), except that they did indeed have to start from scratch. In the dead of night, they rescued a woman from the hands of another small time slaver (there's truly no honor among criminals here), who realized fairly quickly that rescue wasn't the correct word. She was being stolen, and like a thief who steals something of value, she was to be sold. Since then, Weldric has been trying to book passage to Sahova, since selling the woman here in Sunberth would be tricky and overly dangerous, as her past owner might recognize her and come after them. No, he had to take her elsewhere.

Companion NPCs

Sjoks - Human - 31 - Male - Companion/Friend

Sjoks is a scrawny man standing about six feet tall, even. His nosed is obviously crooked from an obvious breaking, surely from a bar fight or mugging attempt, and his body is covered in tiny scars or awkwardly healed injuries. Despite only being thirty-one years old, he has the worn out look of a man nearly fifty, and with only about three quarters of his teeth remaining in his head, he looks about like your average Sunberth Cititzen. His hair is a dark brown color and his face is usually marked with patches of stubble from botched shaves and the inability to grow naturally thick hair.

Sjoks is a man, only a few years younger than Weldric, who is your average ruffian of the Sunberth streets. Growing up, he had nobody but a father that was never really home, and three older brothers who both beat him, and cared for him. He's a tough man with a head as hard as a rock, yet unfortunately he tended to be about as clever as one also. As a grown man, he took to doing work for a Slaver in Sunberth, just like Weldric, and they quickly became friends. Learning the trade was more of Weldric's skill, where Sjoks had a tendency to botch things up, or make problems worse. Sjoks makes for a decent guard with a healthy set of eyes in his head, but with gambling habits, terrible bluffing, a soft spot for sexy young ladies, and being easily outsmarted, he's almost a liability more than an asset. Still, he's the only friend Weldric has, and he's tough when it comes to throwing punches.

Fiora - Human - 27 - Female - Slave
* Cooking - 10
* Reading - 10
* Writing - 10

Fiora is a woman that was raised well, privileged, taught to read and write, from her merchant father, and thanks to the foolishness of his, her life was effectively ruined. She wasn't exceptionally beautiful, on the contrary, she was a very plain girl with brunette hair and hazel eyes, but since she wasn't from Sunberth, and her family was well off, she looked exotic. Looked, as in the few seasons she was taken and abused in Sunberth took its toll. She still had a sense of beauty about her, but she no longer seems to be animated or lively. She's quiet, rarely makes eye-contact, and tends to be quite negative when she does actually speak.

Fiora is a woman, daughter to a merchant who made the grave error of traveling through Sunberth en route to the Northern Sylira region. It wouldn't take long for the wealthy and underprotected family to be overtaken by the greedy and hardened denizens of Sunberth. Money stripped away. Mother taken, and Fiora was taken. She was briefly set up in a brothel, forced to work when she was smuggled out by a man who had a special place for her in his heart. Though she was more a sex slave to him than anything, he treated her fairly well in comparison to the swine that frequented the brothel in her brief stay there. Yet, it wouldn't take long for her owner to grow tired of her (such much for that love he felt) and tried to pawn her off, but instead found himself jumped, beaten by the Weldric and Sjoks duo, and she was liberated from his control, and forced into theirs. The two of them didn't believe in spoiling their own goods, and they truly didn't intend to sell her off, though they had a bit more elaborate scheme than trying their luck in Sunberth. She's been kept mostly in the dark, but Sjoks has often said more than he was supposed to. Sahova.
