[Mithryn]A Dance of Blades, a Wag of tongues(Kreig Messer)

Postby Marrick Corvis on March 30th, 2014, 9:33 pm

Spring 3rd 514 AV 6th Bell.

The rain had been picking up that morning and by the time the squires had been through their physical training it had turned to a down pour. On top of that it had been some ones bright idea to carry on with sparring practice in the yard, which by now was likely a big brown lake of mud. They would spend the rest of the day and most of the night cleaning their uniforms, arms and armor after all the shyke they'd been through that day.

The rain pattered against the squire’s armor, slipping its way in through the cracks, soaking his gambeson. All that was needed now was some sweat to make the feeling of absolute balminess complete. And that, was precisely what the squire knew was coming his way.

David Whitevine had placed him with a man about his age physically, but he was entirely more experienced than he was. Or so he had been told. A Krieg Messer. The squire recognized the family name, and he had to admit that he was a little intimidated to be fighting someone from one of the long standing families of Syliras. Yet when he had expressed his concerns to his Patron, David had simply looked him in the visor and said. “Breath Squire. Breath Right, move right, and remember your basics. You’ll do fine little brother.”

Marrick had shrugged away his worry and nodded to his Patron before the Knight left him to the mercy of his opponent. Heaving a worried sigh he checked his armor one last time to make sure he wouldn’t lose a pauldron due to a bad buckle. His Banded Mail felt tight and his buckles taught. The Practice blade in his hand was weighted and ready.

In his mind the Kelvic tried to remember all the street fights, his training, every technique and every trick in the book he could recall. Yet he still felt he had a better chance catching mice with fishing lure. But there was no waiting, no preventing it. The Kelvic knew that David was testing him. In the back of his mind, the idea that his Patron wanted to see how he’d handle losing in a fight kept creeping into the calm he struggled to find.

With one last weighing of his opponent he stepped into the ring, lowered his shield, and lifted his practice blade to his visor in salute to Kreig.

Kreig didn't like wearing full armor suits, in fact he detested it quite a bit, but that was only because he was unused to it. He moved his arms and legs left and right, trying to get used to the added weight caused by the entirety of the armor. Roughly half of the weight he was used to....being that half of his usual get up comprised of Breastplate, gauntlets, armlets and grieves. So it wasn't all that bad really, just unusual for him to don such extensive armor.

The reason he wore such armor was that his Patron, Sera Natasha Druva who stood behind him and wore the Order's light armor, and one other knight have agreed to have their lovely squires spar with one another and of course it was with a sword and shield. He didn't know much about his opponent save that his name was Marrick.

In Kreig's right arm was a practice longsword and of course in the opposite a round wooden shield, his preferred style as taught to him by his patron. Before Marrick's arrival Kreig had been practicing a series of strikes, first an overhead strike, an upward strike, a thrust then finally a side strike. He didn't quite get the feeling for them, his usual style of fighting with a longsword being two-handed rather than one but he had to make due.

after the passing of a few chimes Marrick and his patron had finally arrived, at least Kreig assumed the squire in full armor was Marrick, but since he entered the ring the assumption was most likely correct. Kreig's Patron nodded cordially to Marrick's and then watched the two squires as they would begin battle. Kreig looked at Marrick, the opposing squire saluting him and Kreig responded in kind before taking up a battle position with his shield facing forwad and his sword overhead like a scorpion's tail, waiting for a chance to sting the foe before him. x

[Mithryn]A Dance of Blades, a Wag of tongues(Kreig Messer)

At his opponents honourable salute Marrick lifted his kite shield and brought the flat of his blade down against the steely upper rim with a loud clap. His shield, a wall of safety and his Blade tip pointed at his opponent he advanced through the mud and muck. With each step the Kelvic was already wishing for a better battlefield. He wasn’t particularly strong, and heavy armor weighed him down. Add the muddy sparring ring and the opportunity to dance around his enemy was disappearing like dry patches of ground in the rain.

As he approached he slowed down assessing the danger, vetting his opponent. His armor was light, his shield was smaller, and the way he held his weapon was good for a downward strike, or perhaps a long sweep from almost every other angle. The downward strike would be the easiest. Then there was always the possibility of the incoming shield.

Like two wolves fighting over a half-eaten rabbit Marrick circled his opponent looking for an opening. The Kelvic was no tactician, and unskilled in this sort of combat. If only he had this man in a fist fight, even then the Kelvic had the oddest sensation that this Kreig was still his better.

‘Stroike farst, stroike hard, and put yer enemy down.’ He though to himself, pushing his nerve into an attack.

“Don’t dance about Squire! Strike at-” Marrick heard his Patron shout at him, but he wasn’t going to wait for him to finish. With a sloshy awkward step forward in the mud, the Kelvic lifted his sword off the rim of his shield and bashed at Kreig’s with the flat his own Kite. In the attempt to knock the round shield away and deliver a thrusting strike to his opponent’s belly he brought his blade low in a follow up strike.
