Anthere Terthas

Anthere's face is framed with straight brown locks, tipped with an extreme set of split ends. Her skin, already pale in life, has adapted an ever lighter tone, so much so that one would assume she hadn't been outdoors in months. The touch of her fingertips has an eerie frigidity, and the lack of a pulse has come across as unnerving to strangers countless times. Anthere has dark circles underlining her eyes, and her cheeks have hollowed. Her lips were full in life, but even they have lost the slightest bit of their shape. But the most off-putting trait that the nuit weilds is a black tongue, which is visible anytime she speaks.

If one were to see her body fully unclothed (which is highly unlikely), they would see in the center of her back, a neat row of prevailing vertebrae. From the front, they'd be able to count every rib.

Image

Anthere has a habit of getting overtly attached to people and concepts in her life. This was her own reasoning behind staying in her own body after death. She didn't want to lose the slightest bit of who she was. Anthere loathes change, and her way of life being altered is always unpleasant.

Though in greeting, she's a friendly person, and sympathizes well. She'll bear a smile and try to be a mediator in conflict.

In Life
Ionu
Anthere regards Ionu with awe. She's impressed by their constant stream of ever-changing illusions, and the sheer power they wield over her own life.

Uldr
Though the idea of a deity representing death is off-putting, the nuit feels obligated to at least consider Uldr positively. He's the reason she's still functioning, and alive.

In Life

Early Life
As a child, Anthere had bright eyes and was a bubbling ball of overflowing, friendly energy. It was rare the child's face wasn't adorned with a smile, and she was always approaching people and searching for new experiences.

And why wouldn't she be smiling? She had a good life, with a loving, happy family. It was rare that something could dampen her mood, and her childhood was generally a happy one.

But all things must come to an end, as did this wonderful beginning to Anthere's life. For her, this childish joy was violently shattered with a painful, unexpected event. The death of her father. Anthere had been six years old at the time, and it devastated her. With the girl's father being a hunter, he spent quite a bit of time outside of the city, in the wilderness. The result was a yukman attack, causing the girl's father to die a gruesome death.

As can be expected, Anthere's mother was devastated. She fell into a depression. The once selfless, caring woman began to care less for her own daughter, and grew distant. Smiles were rare, almost nonexistent. She would disappear for days at a time, without a trace. As time progressed, she would disappear more and more, until, finally, she never came back at all. Nobody ever saw her, almost as if the city itself had swallowed her into its darkest depths.

The Orphanage
Of course, a small child isn't capable of owning a house on her own. So eventually, Anthere wound up in the Ornery Orphanage. For the next few years, until she was an adult, this was her home. Her life was significantly more unpleasant here, in the rickety old building, and under the iron grip of Mrs. Holt. Not to mention, Anthere was never the child to be adopted. That being the case, she felt different, almost defective.

In the orphanage, she mostly kept to herself. A new wound had been cut into her heart, soon after the first, her father's death, had been inflicted. That being the case, she tended to keep to herself, not acting as friendly as she once was, rather curling up in her misery. Later on, it was because she didn't want to seem strange, suddenly being social again. Everyone else had known of her as being "the quiet girl." Anthere grew used to this, almost avoiding the friendly child she once was, because it would've been too painful.

But a newcomer appeared in the orphanage. He was an Inarta boy, roughly a year older than Anthere, who was ten at the time. He'd approached the quiet girl, a friendly smile etched across his face. At first, Anthere pushed him away and avoided him, mainly because his cheerful mentality reminded her of her personality in years past. But he kept prodding, until gradually, he dragged her out of her shell. The boy had introduced himself as Tastur, with a smile and friendly shake of the hand. He was an Inarta boy, and Anthere learned some Nari from him. In a way, they had their own secret language.

From then on, the two were inseparable. Anthere reverted to her old self, and Tastur helped to show her that there wasn't point in wallowing in the loss of her parents, because it was in the past, and couldn't be changed. He also nicknamed her "Therie," which the girl quite liked, and it stuck. Of course, living among other children, and being a boy and a girl, the Therie and Tastur were often made fun of, and laughed at for being "lovebirds." This was quite inaccurate, being that their relationship was purely platonic.

It was evident that the past that had brought Tastur into the orphanage in the first place had been traumatic. He'd had experience with magic that no child should. But Anthere was fascinated by his skills, and she finally coaxed him to teach her something. Finally complying, he began teaching her Auristics, using a journal that someone in his past had used to write in their experiences and techniques. The children would spend bells trying to see each other's auras, and began to know each other in more connective ways, with the ability to see each other's details beyond the surface.

At fourteen, Tastur was adopted, and that was the last Therie saw of him. Their three years together were short, but one of the happiest times in Anthere's life, rivaled only by the mosaic of her early childhood. Despite the dark, creepy, looming discomfort of the orphanage, the children somehow found a way to make its halls and rooms brighter with their laughter. This was when Anthere began to be afraid of change. Because to her, change was always bad.

Tastur had given her the book on auristics, claiming he knew enough, and that she could get more out of it than he could.

Even without Tastur, she continued practicing Auristics, even if it wasn't as enjoyable without her best friend to help and laugh with.

At fifteen, Anthere left the orphanage, ready to start her own life.

Adulthood
Anthere began visiting the Crooked Playhouse, fascinated by the actors' skills in becoming entirely different people. At sixteen, the girl joined the actors in an effort to find a career for herself. She quickly fell in love with the act of putting on shows for the crowds that visited the playhouse.

In the Fall of 514 AV, Anthere grew ill. With the knowledge that she was going to lose her life, she desperately searched for a way to counter it. Finally, she developed contact with a Nuit, who then provided her with the Ichor to ingest so she could have eternal life (ish).

In Death
This story has yet to unfold.
