A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

Fall 69, 516 AV – Two bells after Syna fall, The House of Immortal Pleasures

She trailed soft lips upon the curve of the woman’s neck eliciting a quiet sigh of bliss. “He’ll like you,” Sayana spoke with a smile as she caught the blue green eyes of the scantily clad whore. “But if it’s going to be a grand surprise, you’ll have to tell me who else is good in this place.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to come upstairs for just a moment?” There was almost a plea to the girl’s voice, not like the usual professional demeanor of the place.

“No, I have errands to run. And you are just the start of them.” Sayana replied and cupped the girl’s chin gently with a high hand. For half a tick she was tempted to fling off her dark cloak and show the whore the true power of a seductress, but no, she still hadn’t felt out the city and all its merits and flaws. Not to mention dangers. Clyde’s warning itched at the back of her mind. If a mage like him had to be alert on these streets, then it was nothing to scoff at.

“Remember, I want to know the names of all the whores, good and bad.” Sayana continued and trailed a delicate finger down the woman’s chest. “I wouldn’t want a bad one spoiling my lover’s special surprise. I’ll be back in a day or so for the list and recommendations…”

Sayana took the whore’s hand and placed a kiss upon the back of it, then got up from the couch she had been lounging upon. This was the first step to getting contacts in the city. She wanted names, and lots of them, along with any gossip about the other prostitutes. Whores were just as prone to gossiping and various circles of friends and enemies existed in establishments like this. Once she got names, she could start extracting further information but everything would come in due time.

A handsome bare chested and scantily clad male shot her a wink and a beckoning gesture, but she dismissed him with a wave of her hand. Almost two waves. It was hard to keep a careful hold of her cloak in a place like this, but soon she hoped it wouldn’t be necessary. Ravok, city of wonders, city of Rhysol. And at first glance, a city that actually understood slavery. The use of collars at the whorehouse had suggested such, and after a follow up question, the bar tender confirmed it. However, she had long stayed her time and she ought to get back to the Sullin’s residence.

The cloaked Eypharian took her leave of the whorehouse and absently marveled at how it turned from a place of silk and pleasures to a dingy streetside. It would be a long walk back, but she wasn’t yet certain of the boats that traversed the canals. Besides, Leth hung in the sky with a beautiful glow and the walk would do her well in her endeavors to get to know the city.

Of course, she didn’t journey without protection. A set of four throwing daggers and two regular ones were fastened to the belt at her hips. But just like her long flowing dress, they were hidden beneath the black cloak she wore. She headed for one of the beautiful arching bridges across the canal. Something about Ravok was remarkably clean in comparison to Syliras and even though danger could be lurking at any corner, she still marveled at her first impression of the city.

It was growing close to that time again. Age was beginning to stiffen the joints of Evalin's body, and in some spots the flesh was blackening and starting to shed away. It was times such as these that Evalin wondered if it were not better to be a still living, breathing person and not the immortal husk as she was now. She had no need to eat, nor to sleep and she would see as many summers as she had wish to see, but always there was the need to hunt. A Vessel could only last so long before the natural forces of decay began to take it. Slowly yes, but still it would consume her body until nothing was left but bones. So she had need to change, but the problem always came with finding a new body that fit her liking.

It took most of a season to find the right match, and then to make arrangements for them to disappear. Painstaking, tedious, but necessary. It would be so simple just to whisk away a girl as she traveled alone at night, or to rip one from her bed while she slept. To do so though was risky, and in Ravok her home town Evalin dared not risk her usual tactics. No she needed to be precise, careful and methodical. There was one child already which Evalin had found who might do just fine. Now if she were just patient then perhaps...

Pushing back her hood Evalin sighed as she rested on the bridge, leaning on her staff as she looked off across the lake of Ravok upon which the city rested. It would be simpler if this body did not rot. she said for perhaps the hundredth time this season. She knew Tsenrika was beginning to grow weary of her complaints, but the Immortal cared little for what her Familiar disliked. At least in this.

Shifting beneath the long black cloak Evalin pulled a pipe from within her robes, tapping a bit of tobacco into it as she lit it with a lazy flick of one finger before pulling a long draft from it. The smoke filled her useless lungs, but it was the taste which Evalin craved. It was an earthen smokey flavor, and it was one of the few things she had remaining to her that she could actually enjoy. Slowly she released her held breath, letting her mouth form an O as she blew four smoke rings which quickly dispersed into the air. A wane smile passed Evalin's features as she chewed upon the end of the pipe.

Absorbed as she was in her musings Evalin did not noticed Sayana as she approached at first, but after the first few footfalls upon the dock shuddered the wood beneath her feet Evalin would look back and give a long red eyed stare, unblinking. A flare of craving peaked in her soul and for a terrible instant Evalin thought to simply take this woman and be damned all the planning, but instead Evalin put the pipe to her lips and blew another ring of smoke toward the woman.

"It is dangerous to walk these streets alone at night child. Hurry you home to your den."

Wretched Aura: As a Wretched One Evalin possesses an unnatural aura about her that causes unease in those who get too close. It can come as a prickle of the hair on the back of the neck, a sense of 'wrongness' about her. How people experience it is different depending on their personality and how they handle the unnatural and unknown. Animals tend to become more agitated, more easily sensing how wrong Evalin is and often avoiding contact with her.

The voice in the dark caught her a little off guard, as she was focused on trying to trace a path towards the bridge. However, at the sound her eyes darted quickly to the source and was met by a hypnotizing red gaze. Sayana stopped in her tracks just as a whispery shiver rippled through her body. It was Fall but not cold and yet even the middle of her body, her torso, seemed chilled.

“It may not be safe to walk the streets, but is it safer to stand still?” There was a smile on her lips but it seemed forced, as it did not extend to her eyes. Eyes of brown. Boring, but quick to notice things. However, as Sayana’s gaze returned to the cloaked woman, it became rather apparent that the red glow of the woman’s eyes were not just some trick of the light. Vantha? She couldn’t be sure, but there hadn’t yet been the tell-tale change in colour.

The Eypharian took a step closer, watching as round puffs of smoke left the woman’s mouth. But again the chill began to creep up on her and it was oddly coupled with a strange sense of dislike. “Except, to stand still would mean to stay out of sight, to watch people pass you by, to learn information and habits… But at what cost? The cost of letting handsome men pass you by as well?” At this point she genuinely did smile, having felt compelled to overcome the eerie sense of dislike. “Bright ruby eyes like yours would surely catch a man’s gaze.”

There was a playfulness to her tone and she even made a brief gesture to what little she could see of the woman’s face. At this point Sayana would give ample opportunity for the woman to reply. Despite the chill, the Eypharian was curious and had rarely practiced auristics on another person. Concentrating briefly on a fiery ring, with a strange similarity to the woman’s eyes, Sayana reached within herself for her djed. Then, opening herself up to senses, feeling more, touching more, she focused on her high hands to activate her djed.

Perhaps she shouldn’t have been surprised, but after a couple ticks she could feel the warmth of her own aura upon her hands, and then conversely the much chillier sensation coming from the woman. It felt strong, but not quite overpowering and when Sayana tried to concentrate further, all she felt was a slimy wetness… like mould.

It would have taken her more than a few moments, but she could easily shrug it off as desiring some quiet company.

Sayana still wasn’t sure what to think of the cloaked woman, but she made herself meet the red gaze once more and spoke again. “And now, you see, there are two of us. I may be standing upon these dark streets, but I am no longer alone.”

Evalin blinked slowly, and didn't return either smile that was offered to her. She straightened ever so slightly to shift her body so she could stand sidelong and angled toward the woman who spoke, but for a long moment or two after the opening was made to reply Evalin did not speak. She let the silence drag on as she stared openly at Sayana, eyes shifting up and down her body and lingering on her cloak which hid something interesting she was sure. It was an odd way the cloth rustled that had caught the Immortals eyes, but unless she wanted to leap the gap between them and rip the garment free Evalin knew she should be content on seeing the woman's face unhidden.

It was a plain face, or so Evalin thought. Pretty for sure, but then most young women were pretty in one way or another. Even in the darkness the nuit could see the rich deep coloring of the woman's skin, lustrous like polished bronze and without any obvious signs of blemish. It was rare to see such skin tones this far to the north. Was this woman from one of the desert cities in the South?

Slowly Evalin would exhale a stream of smoke, lowering her pipe as she did to answer in a softer voice, "Why would I wish for the gaze of a man?"

She let the question hang there for a few ticks before turning away to look back out across the waters once more. The embers of her pipe lit with a soft glow as she pulled in another draft, breathing out through her nose then just as a wind swept by to blow back her raven black hair to send tendrils of smoke scattering over both shoulders.

"Two can be just as lonely as one child, and sometimes more so. You talk far too much and say very little, and I would like to continue on my silent vigil alone." Another puff of smoke blew from pale lips as Evalin looked over her shoulder at Sayana once more, "Unless you have some business with me?"

The scarlet eyes didn’t change even when Sayana attempted to introduce a lighter topic of conversation. All she was met with was a lack of interest from the cloaked woman. A question, but rhetorical and more like a comment than anything else.

The Eypharian’s low and mid arms shifted with unease beneath her own cloak. She felt the rekindled sense of dislike radiate from the red-eyed woman. Either she really wasn’t a Vantha, or she managed to maintain a consistent mood of contempt. Or both.

But that’s when it struck her that there had been no reaction to her auristic prying. Maybe the woman wasn’t sensitive to those sorts of things and maybe, just maybe, Sayana could get away with using a little more magic on the woman. She took a few steps down the wooden dock as if to leave, but really buying herself time to reach for her djed once more. It was easier with hypnotism, and she wove her magic with the thoughts and emotions she wished to evoke.

Curiosity, interest, a wish to uncover the unknown… However when Sayana looked over her shoulder in attempt to catch the woman’s gaze, she couldn’t manage a direct line of sight anymore. So instead Sayana laced her tongue with the magic and as she spoke, the soft tug of curiosity would be released with her words.

“There is one thing… except no. You probably wouldn’t be interested.” Sayana let out a soft sigh and shook her head. This was someone who wanted to be left alone. But still, there was a chance. One, two, three ticks… Ideally she would have waited till she got some sort of response to her words, but there was part of her that actually wondered whether the scarlet eyed lady even would be interested, magic or no.

“I deal in information, but I am at a disadvantage here in Ravok. I only recently arrived but I would reimburse any useful information about the city and its people with money, or services.”

She felt a tingle of curiosity in her own mind, something she was accustomed to when using hypnotism. But the conflicting mix of curiosity and unease kept her from reacting to induced emotions.
