PROLOGUE
Ornea had done a good job with Lucis research about tin and copper, and it had seemed to her like she'd achieved quite a lot, but in hindsight she knew the work had progressed at snail's pace. This was going to change now.
The new plan was to give the metallurgy her full attention for a few days and work like an Inarta until she was done with every metal and alloy she was able to find notes about in the messy technical library of Lucis.
She looked around in the library and observed that it was as usual in there, with shelves full of decaying piles of valuable information and discarded ideas alike. Many years of enthusiastic development and postponed documentation had left the firm with droves of badly organized notes laying around in a haphazard way. This should have been a tidy library where it was easy to find vital information. Instead they constantly had to sift through heaps of parchment and paper when they needed to check things. Ornea was under the impression the disarray also increased a little bit every time they hastily browsed trough the documents. For this reason she hadn't felt surprised when Edward had told her the notes made by the unknown metallurgist Saverne Rodine were old stuff from the past.
He hadn't said anything more about it, and it had been obvious that he'd taken it for granted Ornea had meant just metallurgy reports. Ornea hadn't found the project review the right moment to broach the true nature of her findings. Saverne's personal notes remained unexplained. The Inarta would maybe try to speak with Edward about it one day, but for now her focus was metal, metal, metal and alloys. She was going to bring order to at least a small section of this chaos!
