Teli A'Faya

Appearance

Image

Race: Konti
Gender: Female
Age: 34
Birthday: 30th, Fall, 482 AV.
Birthplace: Mura

Appearance: As with all Konti, Teli is a small, frail, pale female. Her delicate frame stands at 5'2", putting her weight around 105lbs. This helps give off the whispy, innocent impression that Konti are all but known for. However, having lived away from Mura for nearly five years now has hardened her facial expression into one unfitting for a Konti. There is a hint of judgement underneath the curiosity in her eyes. While this often vanishes when actually interacting with others, Teli has developed a bit of a hardened facial demeanor when on her own. On her shins and downward, her skin is covered with opalescent scales.

Character Concept

While still characteristically quiet, Teli is less gentle than most Konti due to her few years the Kalea Region away from her family. She judges more quickly than most Konti, but her judgement is not harsh or angry. She looks for what is, not what she wants. Preferring to keep to herself, Teli spends most of her time tending to the deceased animals that she kills herself for food or finds.

Character History

As with most Konti, Teli grew up on Mura, spending the first 31 years of her life there. At birth, Avalis marked her with his mark of Divination. Teli never gave the matter much thought, though, as this was how it was always meant to be. She knew she was not particularly inclined for healing and was glad that her mark reflected this, though this acceptance took years to reach. And once her gift surfaced, it made even more sense for Teli to be marked by Avalis. With physical contact, Teli could tell if the living creature she touched was afraid of being forgotten or useless in this world.
Following the inklings she gained from her mark, and through her mother, Aleah, teaching her what she had learned of Auristics, Teli picked up a very basic understanding and ability of the magic.
While many of the Konti on the island are drawn to arts or crafts, Teli was drawn to the dead from a young age. Her mother, Aleah, was very accepting of Teli's interests and helped her cultivate them. With her mother's assistance, Teli learned about the dead and how to preserve their bodies or help them decompose more readily and with less smell. Even animals (including fish) that had been dressed for eating where prepared as well as Teli could. Every death led to a heartfelt ceremony of remembrance.
After reaching maturity, Teli began to feel The Call, beckoning her to leave her peaceful life with her mother and sisters and move to Alvadas for reasons not yet clear to her. Upon settling into a cottage outside the city, closer to the water, Teli resumed her fishing and trapping to gather food for herself. The ceremonies for the dead animals never faltered. Eventually, endured to her by the never ending ceremonies, she caught the attention of a traveling Malediction user. A human man, something Teli was still a bit unused to, approached her after a ceremony one evening and asked her why she handled the deceased animals so elaborately. She answered him that all lives are important, and that even some animals fear death. Giving them a ceremony is her way of acknowledging and assuaging their fears, even after they have passed.
They discussed how many creatures have a multitude of uses over the course of a few days. The man, Adon, was a wanderer heading to Sunberth, intending to attempt the travel across the Suvan Sea. Teli did her best to explain how to best catch fish in the area, to no avail, but her attempt was not overlooked by Adon. After addressing the obvious--that Teli was not human--she revealed that her gift told her the best way to ease someone's pain. However, this often lead to her needing to put an animal out of it's misery. It was a tough course of action, but it was for the best.
The following morning, he began training her in Malediction. This way, she could ensure that deserving creatures were never forgotten. It helped her cope with having to put suffering animals out of their misery, but ensuring that their death would have positive consequences. However, the reason he had been attempting to travel to Sunberth was to return home to his family grave. Adon knew he was ill but did not reveal this to Teli until he lay dying. He had lived with her, training her, for 8 months before he passed away. After that time, she brought his preserved body to Sunberth to be buried with his family, keeping a small rib bone to make into a talisman once was adept enough.
Since that time nearly a year ago, Teli has been practicing her skills mostly in solidarity at her cottage. However, whenever she must go to Alvadas for supplies, she asks around about the government system and looks to see if the position she expects based on her Calling is open.
