The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

"Straighten your shoulders when you walk, Amelie. You are a Craven, and a Craven does not slouch." Madeira pushed back her own shoulders, bared as they were in an off-the-shoulder dress, to emphasize her point. With that simple adjustment the sharp angles of her prominent bones turned into strikingly elegant shapes under her skin. "Nobody must mistake you for anything but a lady."

Zintia was bright and bustling under the golden light of sunny late afternoon. Madeira had to hold tight to her daughters hand so as not to lose her in the tide of shoppers going about their business. From the mountain peaks a cooling breeze pulled cheekily at the long billowy white skirt of her magical garment, and set the konti-like scales sewn into the bodice to rattling. But nothing was quite as chilling as the small, gruesome ghost that lead the way. Emma had a way of parting a crowed that Madeira found just as useful as the girl's sense of direction.

"Once we fit you for a dress, I have a surprise for you." Madeira smiled down at Amelie, giving her hand a squeeze through her gloves and many rings. They were headed for the Silk Palace, where she was going to buy her ever growing daughter a new dress. But after that little necessity they had a whole evening ahead with just the two of them, and Madeira planned to make the most of it. It was with a slight tint of desperation that the spiritist endeavored to to learn from her own lonely childhood and avoid the mistakes her narcissistic father made.

"Were here!' Emma announced ahead of them, presenting the little white washed fabric shop with enthusiastic jazz hands, like she conjured it herself from thin air.

"Thanks, kitten. Wait here for us." She smoothed her imbued hand over the girl's hair and pressed forward into the cozy store.

"Welcome back!"

"Miss Craven!"

Two red-headed twins welcomed Madeira and Amelie inside with big smiles and little curtsies, summoned by the tinkling of the little bell over the door. The space inside was surprisingly small for a retail store. There were actually no goods on display at all, simply a long desk and two chairs on one side, and a pedestal and dressing screen on the other. But everything about the place, from the fine furnishings to the padded chairs to the faint waft of fine Lhavitian tea, spoke of comfort.

"May we bring you some tea?"

"Or water?"

"Please, have a seat!"

This was not Madeira's first time at the Silk Palace. Their willingness to cater to her very un-Lhavitian sense of style has made a very loyal customer out of her. As a result they had all of her measurements on file, but this time she was not there for herself. She wrapped an arm around Amelie's shoulder and pulled her to the front.

"Actually, I need a dress for her."

The twins switched speeds immediately, at once conjuring a cup of tea for Madeira and ushering Amelie onto the pedestal. Suddenly the air was full of the snapping of measuring tapes as the twins got to work.

"What kind of dress-"

"Would you like?" the twins asked, looking between Madeira and Amelie.

Madeira just looked to her daughter with a smile and a raised brow, prompting her to make the decision for herself.

Amelie Craven

Amelie was excited. It wasn't often that she got to spend time alone with her mother, she loved her brother but it was nice to not have Moritz hogging all the attention with his strong personality, like other okomo with their giant size and bright colors, he had a gift for stealing the spotlight. Regardless, it was just her and mommy now and even better, she was going to get a new dress! Every step taken by the youngest Craven lady had her practically bouncing with joy, a swift nod and straightening of her shoulders to follow her mother's instructions.

"Yes, mommy."

The little kelvic may have been young but she was already proud to carry the Craven name and would do her very best to make her mommy proud. As far as she knew, they were the only Craven 'ladies' around which was all the more reason to be as good as she could at everything and if it meant being half as beautiful and great as her mother she couldn't see any reason not to try.

She couldn't wait for the surprise.

Upon entering the store with the pretty colurs in the window the first thing Amelie spotted was two heads of dancing bright red hair, or maybe it was orange, either way she'd never seen anyone with hair like fire before. She was so entranced by the two girls with matching hair and faces that she completely missed most of the words and happenings exchanged, only coming to when she heard her mother's voice and looked up to see all eyes watching her expectantly. Pressure.

By the time her mother's question had finally caught up to her and registered in her mind, Amelie had already attempted to replicate a few of the habits her mom used when she was being asked a question. A hand was brought to her chin in feigned thought, a sweet hum escaping her tiny lips. Dress? What kind? She genuinely had no idea. Only one word came to mind...

"A blue dress.

The words were spoken with noticable pride, it was after all her favourite colour, the colour of both her mom and her own eyes. Besides colour, Amelie wasn't sure how else to describe a dress.

Even at so young an age Amelie was making her own decisions. Madeira first noticed it when the girl took it upon herself to divide the paint colours between the three children at the Okomo festival. She obviously had clear ideas, and knew what she wanted. So when she proudly and confidently asked for 'a blue dress', Madeira rewarded her with a smile over her teacup. With that kind of attitude she'd grow up to be a fine matriarch.

The twins, however, were at a loss. They needed more to go on than colour.

"Blue cotton", Madeira clarified for them. They curtsied and bustled away to collect a few samples of blue cotton to show them.

While they were gone Madeira put down her tea and strode to the pedestal, taking a moment to flatten the girl's collar and tuck her fine blonde hair behind her pointed ears. Out of both her children, Amelie was the only one who resembled her. Moritz took after the hard, lean lines of his father. There was even something about the shape of his face and the pallor of his skin that spoke more of her bonded's mixed Nykan roots than her own long heritage. But Amelie had the familiar blue eyes, the same fine pale hair, the same delicate bones. Though even then the little girl showed signs of a natural beauty that neither she nor Allister possessed, as her own came almost exclusively from presentation.

"Modulate your voice, little fox", she told her, tapping her chest with a sculpted nail. "No matter what you are saying it should sound soft and strong, like a chant. That is the meaning of enchantment, little fox. It's a way to get people to do as you ask." If the girl learned to charm people when she spoke, and if she grew into her beauty... well, everything in this life would come that much easier to her.

Presently the twins came back, each holding a dozen squares of cotton. They ran from ever shade of blue, some were printed with pretty patterns of stars or flowers, and all were presented to Amelie at Madeira's insistence. Again, she wanted her to make the final decision. Once she chose which fabric to use Madeira stepped in for the specifics. She did not want buttons or laces, she wanted something that could be removed quickly and in one motion, just in case. And it had to be long and loose fitting, so the girl could be allowed to grow into it over the next season. Finally the twins took the last measurements and helped Amelie from the pedestal.

"Thank you!", one twin curtsied, after finalizing payment with Madeira.

"Come again!", her sister echoed brightly.

Both were still waving as Madeira ushered Amelie out and closed the door behind them.

"How did it go? Did you get something super pretty Ammy?" Emma was crouched right where they left her, trying to pick up smaller and smaller rocks with her rough soulmist projection. She jumped to attention as Madeira pulled her gloves tight across her wrists.

"We're going to the Shining Diamond next, Em."

The ghost saluted and lead the way back through the market, her shimmering form all but invisible in the sunshine. But a spiritist didn't need to see a ghost to know where it was. She took Amelie's hand with a smile and followed.

"Are you... having fun, little fox? Do you want to stay out will mommy a little longer?" Madeira asked her daughter, hiding her self consciousness behind her proud posture and gentle smile. She had to wonder if anybody ever felt like a good mother.

Amelie Craven

With her mother's words the two ladies with fire for hair disappeared in another dance of movement leaving Amelie and her mom alone in the room. Excited by the thought of a new pretty dress, especially a blue one, the young Craven treated herself to a twirl on the spot, stopping suddenly when she saw that her mother had come closer and offering the older Craven a wide smile. Blue eyes met blue and Amelie stayed silent as she focused on her mommy's words, her keen ears could always tell when her mother was trying to say something important because her voice deepened ever so slightly but never lost its comforting tone.

"Mod-u-late..."

She'd never heard the word before and didn't know what it meant, but the advice was clear nonetheless. She needed to sound more like Mommy when she spoke, gentle but strong. chanting to be en-chanting made complete sense in Amelie's mind as her little mind, eager to impress, contemplated the difference between her own speaking voice and ger mothers. Luckily, her hearing had made the differences noticeable enough.

Before she could practice speaking in the way her mom had just told her too the fire ladies were back and dancing with lots of blue this time, all spread out before Amelie and once again it was time for her to make a choice.

While the previous choice had been slightly difficult for the youngster, the second came with relative ease as Amelie's blue eyes had been completely caught by one of the fabrics the ladies had brought in from the get go.

Opening her mouth excitedly, Amelie managed to catch herself, instead first fixing her posture by straightening her back before turning to point at the fabric of choice. "This one please..." This time her voice had come out both sweet and controlled, her best attempt at replicating her mother's speech and once again Amelie treated herself to a celebratory twirl.

The next few moments had passed by in a flash as the fire headed ladies danced around and pulled tape along her arms, legs and bodies. She behaved as best she could and soon enough they were heading out of the shop. A polite "Thank you." was added before she exited the store, a second attempt to praxtice her mother's instructions before she practical danced out into the street, immediately going to circle Emma excitedly as the ghost asked about the dress.

"Yes! It's gonna be blue like me and mommy's eyes and with pretty shiny stars all over!"

Hands first pointed towards her eyes as a reference for the color before reaching upwards and spreading outwards to illustrate that it would be covered in the tiny silvery stars. The two little girls seemed to mirror each other's excitement before Mommy spoke and Emma darted off again,  to fast and hard for Amelie to follow, so she took her mother's hand instead, beaming up at the beautiful woman.

"Yes Mommy! Let's walk around ALL day and then do it again tomorrow and the next day and the next!" She'd attempted to 'modulate' like her mom had told her but ended up losing her composure to excitement halfway through. "Mommy?... What's at the Shining Diamond? Is my surprise there?" She'd heard her mother's directions to Emma. "And Mommy..." her voice lowered, "Why can't Emma get a new dress too?" She knew that Emma was different to her somehow, she always looked the same and she could do things that Amelie herself couldn't, like disappear and walk into things without bumping them, but for some reason she'd never thought to ask about it... until now.

Something in her heart buoyed to hear her daughter's naked excitement to spend the day with her. It was so... pure. She wanted nothing from her, she only wanted to spend time with her mommy. It was a type of guileless sincerity that was all but impossible for an adult to show. Just when she was sure she couldn't possibly love these kids more, they found a way to etch themselves deeper into her heart.

At the question of if her surprise was at the Shining Diamond, Madeira simply but her gloved finger to her lips and winked. It was a surprise, after all. She found she enjoyed keeping the little girl in suspense.

The next question was more serious. Amelie's voice lowered and her pale brows knit together in a knot of confusion. Why couldn't Emma get a new dress too? While this question might have raised red flags for another parent, might even have prompted a lie or a glossing over of the brutal reality of it, it had no such affect on Madeira. She had lived with death so long she couldn't even remember who had first explained it too her. It had been part of her from the day she was born, so of course she would tell her daughter exactly what she wanted to know. What did it mean to be too young?

"Because Emma is dead, little fox", Madeira began casually, shielding the low sun from her eyes with the back of her sparkling hand. "She's been dead for a very long time. Her and Jomi both. They can't have pretty new dresses because they don't have a body to wear it on. They're called ghosts, and they are what is left behind when a body stops working. You see..." She struggled to come up with a simple way to explain the concept. "Inside your body there is this big bundle of energy called a soul. That's where you keep all your thoughts and memories and everything that makes you, you. If you hurt yourself really badly, like Jomi, or get really sick, like Emma, your body stops working. Once it stops working your soul cant live there anymore, so it goes to Dira. That's called death.

"Once a body is dead it doesn't come back, so we burn it or bury it. But some souls, because they're angry or scared or confused, will stay behind and not go to Dira. Staying behind is really hard, because without a body you can't feel anything anymore. You can't hold anybody's hand or eat your favourite sweet or even sleep anymore. After a while all that sadness and loneliness, anger and jealousy, builds up and drives them mad, and sometimes they hurt people. That's why people like the Craven's exist. We have a magic that helps souls go back to Dira like they are suppose to."

She smiled down at Amelie, trying to judge if any of this makes sense to the little girl.

"Would you like to learn that magic too? Maybe one day you can help Emma die properly. You see, she's really sad, so sad that her mind broke. That happens to a lot of ghosts. You know how Emma talks to that fuzzy tiger head over the fireplace? That was her bondmate, just like your Papa is my bondmate. He's dead just like she is, only her mind tells her that he's still alive so she doesn't hurt anymore."

Up ahead Emma was prancing, her nightdress billowing about her, her brown curls bouncing behind her. "Hurry up slowpokes!" she laughed, her indistinct form shimmering over the cobbestones. Madeira waved back to show they were following.

"So that's not really Emma Chamelle, at least not all of her. She is what was left behind when Emma died. It's like when you leave a handprint on Infinity's window panes. That's not really your hand, right? It takes a body and a soul to complete a person. Without them they are broken creatures, and its up to us to put them back together."

Amelie Craven

Amelie couldn't help but giggle in excitement as her mother hushed her, she didn't mind that the question had gone unanswered because she loved surprises. Whatever her mommy had planned would, without a doubt, be amazing, just as everything else the oldest Craven did, so there was no reason to worry. Surprise aside, she was still out with her mom and would soon have a new dress. As far as Amelie was concerned, things were great.

The topic of Emma and why she couldn't do things Amelie herself could, seemed to be an important one, judging by the change in tone of her mother's voice, so bright blue eyes turned upwards, doing her best to pay attention to what was said. Now what she'd turned her and Emma's differences into question form, Amelie was genuinely curious and interested.

Death? Ghosts? She'd heard both before, the latter in reference to both Emma and Jomi, so she'd known at least that they were called 'ghosts' but now she was being told far more about it than she could never have guessed. Apparently Emma and Jomi were the way they were because their bodies stopped working and their energy was left behind, she could think of something similar that her keen smell could relate to.

"Like when Papa isn't home but I can still smell him all over Finity? Especially in mommy's room."

It was the closest comparison the little kelvic could make to what her mother was explaining about ghosts at the moment, but it seemed to make sense in her own mind at least.

The more her mother explained, the more sad Amelie felt for Emma and Jomi,). They couldn't wear new dresses or sleep or get hugs? Of course they were lonely without all that. Suddenly Amelie found herself even more proud of the Craven name, visibly straightening up once again as she turned to her mother. "Yes. I want to help Emma one day too Mommy. She's so nice to me, Jomi too and all the ghosts." After all, dead or not, they were part of her family.

Blue eyes darted between Emma and her mother once again as she heard the ghost girl call back to them and a few more questions came to mind. "Mommy... who is Dira and why does she take people when their bodies stop working..." A long pause permeated her words and a frown appeared on her little face as Amelie struggled to formulate the next question in her head. "... Will Dira take you as well one day mommy?"

People were always calling herself and Moritz young and she'd seen several people referred to as 'old'. She knew that old people's bodies started getting slower and more tired looking so it made sense that they might stop working one day. At least it made sense in her mind.

Amelie was taking this surprisingly well. There was no trembling in the little hand wrapped in hers, no confusion in her big blue eyes. She seemed to simply except what her mother was saying, letting her mind expand to fit this new facet of the world. If anything she seemed a little sad as she watched Emma ahead. Was that empathy? Madeira made a mental note to keep an eye on that soft heart as the girl got older. If left unchecked in this profession it would either be exploited or drive her mad.

Though the kelvic seemed to have grasped the core concept, she still had questions. She wanted to know about Dira. And she wanted to know if her mommy was going to die one day, too.

"Dira is a Goddess. It is her responsibility to collect these souls and deliver them safely to wherever they need to go." Madeira explained carefully. "Sometimes they go to other gods and goddesses. Sometimes they go to new bodies so they can live again as someone new." That was a gross oversimplification of the process. There was the whole business with Lhex and judgment and reincarnation, but she was not sure how to explain something so complicated to a child less than a year old. She knew plenty of seasoned adults who couldn't wrap their minds around the cycle and the scope of eternity.

"She'll come for me one day, little fox. She will come for you and Papa and Moritz too. But it's nothing to be afraid of. Actually, you've already met her once before." She smiled down at the little girl. It was such a beautiful day, and the two of them were in such a busy place, so full of life and colour, that those passing would never believe that they could be talking about something so horrible. "Can you keep a secret, little fox?"

She waited for an affirmation before she continued.

"On the night you were born, Dira came to the manor. She came to warn us that a monster was sent to hunt us down. That night I thought I was going to die. I was sure of it, and that made me afraid. If I died so would you, little fox. So would Moritz and your father. I wanted us to live so bad that I ran away, leaving the monster to hurt others just so it wouldn't hurt me. But after a while I realized that I wasn't saving our lives this way, only making them last a little longer. Whether it happened now or later didn't matter, what mattered was that I made the time I did have mean something. So I came back, and with help I defeated the monster. Afterwards Dira rewarded me for what I had done." She indicated the palm of her hand, where Amelie knew she had a mark shaped like a scythe.

Madeira still had the monsters remains hidden in the walls of her room. Sometimes in the dead of night she could hear the thing whispering to her. Only Jomi, the house and the goddess herself knew it still lived, and she was going to keep it that way. Her daughter must never know.

She squeezed Amelie's little hand. "Do you know what I mean? Don't worry about me dying, or you dying. It will happen no matter what. But we will do great things before we die, won't we? Then when we meet Dira again we can greet her as a friend, and die with pride."

Up ahead, tucked away in a little out-of-the-way pocket of the market, was the Shining Diamond. It was marked only by a sign shaped like a gleaming crystal that creaked in the wind. Emma bounced ahead, indicating the innocuous little shop with a wave of her incorporeal hand.

Madeira thanked her with a smile, and lead her daughter inside.

The shop was musty and warm. The fireplace was roaring despite the season, and it threw long shadows across the hardwood floor. Dust moats danced in the light from the tightly sealed windows. But this did nothing to detract from the shine of the glass cabinets, where a fortune in gems sat resplendent in necklaces and bracelets and brooches. Every item was so finely cut it seemed to shed its own light, the effect only enhanced by the black velvet they were laid upon.

A bell tinkled merrily above there heads the moment they stepped in, but no smiling shop worker or steaming cup of tea was presented to them, unlike in the Silk Palace. This place was almost unwelcoming by comparison. It was clear this place was not here to serve you, but survived on the quality of its product alone.

"Good afternoon, mister Li."

Parallel to the door a bedraggled old man was slumped in a cozy but worn chair, smoking a long pipe. He looked up at the sound of the bell and nodded to Madeira in greeting.

"This is my daughter, Amelie. Amelie, this is Guancho Li. He made all of mommy's prettiest jewelry."

"Charmed, miss Amelie", he nodded to the little girl, unsmiling and speaking around the pipe. "I'll take it you're both here to pick up the commission." The old man got heavily to his feet, and one couldn't be sure whether the creaking was his bones or the floor. Without another word he shuffled to the left hand door at the back of the shop and disappeared.

Amelie Craven

A goddess? Amelie had heard her mother refer to goddesses and gods, apparently a man goddess, but she didn't quite understand how they were different to people. She knew they were stronger, but then Papa was the strongest person she knew and she knew they were smarter and that they could do amazing things,  but then no one was more smart or amazing than her mother, so when she pictured the goddess Dira, Amelie just saw her mother's face. Death aside, the little girl was far more interested in the prospect of getting a new body one day, though she had no idea what. She already was her favourite animal, a little fox.

While she'd taken most of the explanation quite well,  she wasn't as keen on the thought of this Dira coming to take her family away,  her hand squeezing her mother's noticeably tighter as if in fear that the older Craven would be snatched away at any moment. She liked almost everything in her life, right down to her house, Finity, so the thought of having anything in it taken away wasn't a pleasant thought, there was only one acceptable option she in her mind. With a nod of affirmation, Amelie quickly settled down to hear the story of how she'd met Dira. Instead of exclaiming that she could indeed keep a secret, she simply bounced in place for a brief moment  before placing a single finger to her lips, which were stretched into an excited smile.

As her mother spoke, sharing the story of how they'd all survived a monster thanks to the lady Dira, Amelie's bright blue eyes slowly widened more and more to the point where she was in a state of complete awe by the time the story was finished. The story was like one of the stories she was told before bed, except it was real, she knew it was, her mother didn't lie and she had the mark to prove it. There was one detail of the story that puzzled her though. "It's like a bed time story, but even better because mommy was the princess... but... Why did the monster come?" She didn't quite understand.

The question was quickly set aside for a later date as her mother reminded her of the unpleasant truth she'd only just forgotten about, the fact that Dira was going to take them away one say. "Only if she takes us all together, Finity too." With that said, Amelie gave a firm nod, their fates had been decided in her mind.

By the time they two of them had entered the dusty old store, Amelie's nose wrinkling slightly as her heightened sense of smell was slapped with the musk of its interior, she'd all but forgotten about her surprise, up until that point.

Suddenly energised once again, Amelie offered a polite smile and sort-of bow to the man with the funny name before taking off to investigate whatever the old dusty store had to offer,  stopping to gape in awe at every shiny piece that was locked behind glass,  the bigger the better. At this point even the bouncing wasn't enough to express her excitement as she zipped around the store to pick make a list of all her favourite 'shinies'.

"This one's shiny, but that one is SUPER shiny and pretty, but this one is even MORE shiny!.. Mommy, which one's your favourite? But you can only pick one!"

The door shut behind master Li with a faint click, and already Amelie was buzzing like a bee around the glittering delights of stone and metal. She kept up a running commentary as she went, fluttering from one glass cabinet to the next, proclaiming this one to be shiniest and this one to be prettiest but which one was mommy's favorite?

Madeira smiled to see her daughter so full of excitement, but couldn't quite build up the will to share in it just yet. The little girl's innocent words were still rattling around her head, causing her right hand to flex beneath its concealing glove. Why did the monster come?

I am not the only one who has noticed your potential, Madeira Craven, the words of the Goddess bubbled up from her memory, cold and clear as the day she heard them. Uldr has sent a priest against you.

The monster came because a powerful god thinks your mommy is a nuisance. The monster came because a powerful god thinks your mommy is causing trouble. The monster came because a powerful god wants your mommy dead.

"Let me think..." digging deep, Madeira summoned a mummers cheerful smile and followed after Amelie, gloved finger tapping her bottom lip as if in great thought. "My favorite jewel... is it this one? No, it's not pretty enough. How about this one? No, I like something that shines brighter..." She circled the shop slowly, making a show of considering and dismissing all the gorgeous gems on the way.

Uldr wants your mommy dead.

Destroying his priest must have just proved his irritation rational. Uldr will try again. He might send more monsters to her house, a champion to her front door, have his little minions take her unawares in some dark corner of Lhavit. But in his way will be Madeira's family; her daughter, her son, her bondmate, her friend, her partner... An image of a Desolate One reanimating Amelie's corpse, like she had once seen it puppet a Shinya, flashed through her mind. Little Amelie, beautiful blue eyes rolled back to the white, blood dripping onto her new dress, dead and desecrated by a creature of rot and hate.

"How about this one? Hmm, no, it's not quite beautiful enough", her voice bounced jovialy from syllable to syllable, while inside she felt like screaming. No, that will never happen. She would never let that happen.

Uldr wants your mommy dead.

"I choose... this one!" spinning on her heel, she caught Amelie and snatched her up by the armpits, swinging the little girl to her hip. "This one is the most beautiful jewel in the whole shop. No, the whole world!" Her hand found the child's side and tickled her until she giggled.

From behind them someone loudly cleared their throat. Madeira turned, Amelie still on her hip, to see the jewelcrafter standing by his back door with a polished mahogany box in hand and a supremely unimpressed look on his face.

"Do be careful of the glass, Miss Craven."

"Oh, I beg your pardon, master Li", she gave Amelie a last hearty kiss to her forehead, using that tick of privacy to calm her rampant thoughts, and put the little girl down. "So, little fox, are you ready to see your present?"

She took the box from the jewelcrafter with a word of thanks. The man returned to his chair by the door so the two Craven's might examine his work in peace, while Madeira got to her knees and laid the box across her lap.

"We need something pretty to go with your pretty dress, don't we? My precious jewel deserves to wear something as beautiful as she is."

She opened the box, and inside, in a nest of purple sink, was a silver pendent necklace. A delicate silver chain was hung with a large blue diamond cut in the shape of a star, faceted to reflect the light in a hundred glittering prisms.

Amelie Craven

Waiting patiently for her mother to join in on her cleverly thought up game of 'which shiny do you like most?', Amelie could only watch with excitement as her mother began to hum in thought. With each step the older Craven took, Amelie was close behind, buzzing with curiosity and hopping happily every time her mother considered one of the pretty items behind the glass, her anticipation visibly growing. She wanted to see what her mom's favourite would be, but more than that, she was hoping that their favourites would match. Amelie could only imagine how great it would be if she and her beautiful mother had another thing in common. The more the merrier.

As Madeira seemed to draw nearer and nearer to her final decision,  Amelie was practically bursting at the seams with anticipation. She needed to know which shiny was her mother's favourite and she needed to know in that very instant. She wanted to know if they had the same task, if she was like her mother and if their tastes were different, then she'd learn to like her mother's so she could become exactly like her one day. In her mind, there was no one Amelie wanted to be like more.

Unfortunately, it seemed that she'd been completely wrong about which shiny her mother would pick as she revealed that her favourite was indeed... Amelie! The white haired little girl burst into a fit of giggles as her mother lifted her and tickled her side, trying desperately to bend herself into a shape that would guard her side from the tickles. Her mother was always right, so if she said Amelie was the most beautiful jewel in the whole world, then she'd believe it.

A moment later, their cheerful mother-daughter exchange was interrupted by a loud cough, Amelie's head whipping around along with her mother's, two sets of bright blue eyes beneath two heads of blonde hair staring down the old man. Her surprise was ready! "Yes yes yes!" She couldn't think of any better way of expressing just how ready she was as she skipped her way towards the old man, gasping at the still closed box that was now on her mother's lap.

"Yes yes yes!" She answered again at her mother's comment about needing something to go with her dress. If she'd been excited to see which shiny was her favourite then Amelie had no words to describe just how excited she was to see her surprise. "Open it mommy!" She called out, bouncing in place.

The first thing she noticed when the box was opened was pretty purple with something bright and shiny within amd as her blue eyes focused on the sparkling object within, Amelie's face lit up in absolute wonder. A shiny silver necklace with a big sparkling blue star in the center. Amelie practically overflowed with excitement, gasping loudly as she reached for the necklace only to pull her hands away before repeating the process again. "A star! It's so pretty! Thank you mommy! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She still hadn't actually touched the necklace, instead running around to her mother's side to give the beautiful woman as tight a hug as she could manage, uncertain of how else to show her gratitude.

The new necklace was, instantly, Amelie's favourite possession, by a long shot.
