37 Spring, 511 AV Ghedan woke to the sound of heavy breathing. He instinctively reached for the knife he kept beside his bed and stood up quickly to face whoever had entered his house. No one was there, but the breathing continued. He felt a twinge of pain at the back of his head. Not his own. He looked down and saw the source of the heavy breathing. Glint was collapsed on the floor gasping for air. Ghedan rushed over to him. Whatever this was, it was far beyond his skills. All he knew how to do was treat exterior wounds, but this was clearly internal. Perhaps it was merely old age, Ghedan had no idea how old the fox was. But it couldn't be that. Just yesterday Glint had been running beside him as he went for a ride on Qwinn, chasing down birds as normal. His body went cold as the threat of loss crept upon him. The feelings buried within him surfacing again. He couldn't lose this last reminder of the family he had hardly known. He gently lifted Glint off of the floor. The fox whimpered in hidden pain. He grabbed a blanket and carefully wrapped his faithful companion to restrict movement. Then he headed out the door, he'd have to walk. It didn't seem that Glint could take the jarring motion of riding. He just hoped he could make it to the Sanctuary before Loss' threat became a reality. |
