Character Concept

At first glance, Daija would seem to be a harmless person because of how he constantly puts up a small smile. He always thinks of himself as socially inept and will try his best to keep a conversation going. His personality though is difficult to discern as he appears to be a gentle and helpful fellow - calm with a dry sense of humor.

Despite all these, Daija is a very cold, callous, dispassionate figure, and is rather aloof and indifferent, willing to harm both his comrades and enemies should they ever get in his way. He refers to anyone he does not find interesting as "trash" and treats them as expendable. Daija is also highly perceptive, cunning, and analytical. Despite this, he is not particularly violent and will only fight when provoked. He is fond of manipulating others by acting sympathetic to them often rattling the hisses of doubts into their psychology just so he can use them as his stringed puppets. Daija sees loyalty as betrayal under a blanket, and finds it hard to trust anyone. Daija stays calm in the face of danger and will either slither away or stay and strike.

Character History

Crack. The first egg of Zissevha, the Queen of a nest, hatched. A tiny yet peculiar hatchling slithered out of the now cracked egg. Its tongue waving out from its out jaws as it squirmed to get free off the slimy membrane that it was insulated in earlier. The egg cracked even more until it finally broke into eight pieces of shell shards. It was out. The hatchling was now out of its prison. Its mother, taking the form of a human, gently carried it on her hands towards her lips before she gave it a soft and gentle kiss. "I have been waiting for you, my son. My youngest, son and only son." She smiled, her aura was serene and gentle. Her cold and pale skin seemed to give warmth to her youngest child. "You are special and unique because you are different." She smiled, sadly. But she smiled. This hatchling was an albino. They were deemed to be weaker than the normal ones, and rumored to be cursed with the cruelty and coldness of Siku. But the Queen of this nest loved this hatchling, because she knew he was special.

"Daija. Zissevhadaija will be your name."

For the first few years, Daija grew up close to his mother but distant towards his sisters and father. His father saw him as a weak Rattler because of his condition as an albino. Daija was prone to a lot of sickness and he was slower than most of his sisters. His sisters saw him as a stranger, they were frightened of his white scales and they feared his red eyes. Although, he was presumed to be weak, Daija's glare could cause his own father to look away from him. But as years passed, Daija's father reached out to his son. Since he was the only male, Daija's father thought that the boy learned how to hunt. Thus, he accompanied his son and started teaching him how to be a hunter along with the sisters, of course.

As a hunter, Daija displayed cruelty towards his prey. He would torture them first, either by strangling or by sliding his fangs on the prey's neck to inflict a stinging pain before slowly piercing them down into the prey's nape. He was also cunning and always waited for the opportune moment to strike, as his sisters would only strike aimlessly and often missed. His father saw him as a great hunter yet he knew that Daija was sadistic. He told his wife about this but Zissevha would calmly shake her head and assure her husband that Daija will change as he grows older. It was evident in the young boy that he was fascinated with what's inside the preys that he would kill. He liked to explore these corpses rather than eating them whole, and when he was done he would just leave these to rot. He wasn't one to keep on eating, he could go on for days without food. He has always been a curious child.

Daija was looked differently from all the other Rattlers of their nest. He was thought to be as a cursed and was often detested by the other Rattlers. Some would pick on him but when he would strike back they would all retaliate out of fear. There was even an incident when Daija fatally attacked a Rattler because it ridiculed Daija's mother of having a cursed son. They can speak ill of him, but no one ridicules his mother. The entire nest solely worshiped the goddess Caiyha, following her ways and adapting her morals of peace and serenity, but Daija was completely on the twisted side. Maybe he was really cursed? Or maybe because he was labeled as a curse at a young age. Whichever was it, Daija was absolutely aloof towards the other Rattlers, even to his father and sisters.

Years passed, Daija matured in age. As a youngling he slowly became more polite than he was before. His personality changed, and his cruelty turned into kindness. This greatly surprised all the Rattlers in the nest. Some really believed that he changed for the better, others were skeptical about it and maybe he was just putting up a facade. Daija didn't care about what the others thought and focused on what piqued his interests. Somewhere sealed and hidden away in the depths of the nest is an ancient relic that was used long ago in the Valterrian War. Only a few Rattlers of the nest are aware of its existence, mostly the elder Rattlers. Some just regard it as a myth since. But Daija, he knew it was real. How? He heard his mother talk about it to an elder Rattler. She said that the relic must be disposed for good, but the elder Rattler just gave her advice to keep it safe since it might still be of use. This ancient relic was called the Abysmal Rattler - it belonged to a cursed Rattler of the olden ages and used to it to manipulate anyone who heard its rattling noise. It has been said that the curse was a gift from Siku but no one really knows where it came from. The only knowledge they have on this relic was that it contributed to the mass killing of the Dhani race that led them to the brink of extinction. Thus, it was sealed away. Never to be used again. Daija's curiosity, however, did not stop him from going on a quest to find the relic.

Visitors are often given a private room, while a couple will move in with the children to make extra room. Some of the larger, more expansive Holds with wealthier families have spare rooms in their Arvinta or special guest quarters when people move from place to place visiting. Holds often have common areas and craft cottages in buildings attached and are always made of solid stone.
