35th Day of Summer, 514 AV

He barely stood awake with bed head hair. The rising sun beaming behind him, as he wore nothing but his pants and his shredded poncho. His bare-feet spread a little further than shoulder-width, toes gripping and releasing against the water softened wood, sleeves of his poncho gripped in his palm as he fingered the tip of the hilt of his daggers, all while looking into the eye of his opponent. A stump. More like a post, the remnants of a foundation to an abandoned building left a post sticking out at about head level to Hayl. This post was the perfect training-aid as it was on a fairly secluded portion of the docks, so long as Hayl didn’t let his laziness get the best of him and rose early enough to beat the morning rush. He had enough space around the post that Hayl could lunge from about ten feet, any further he would run into more debris and posts jutting out, some of which had been cut misshapened at the their tops. Two were low enough to step on and would probably snap an ankle with their sloped tops. About 12 feet the other direction past the post, and Hayl would end up in water. That has only happened 4 times, three of which he was pretty drunk so he felt that it really didn’t count. Regardless, the one good post, which Hayl named Joss (he likes to give adversaries a name with their face, even when he is training), was far enough that Hayl could train adequately.

He glared into Joss’s face. The post had swirling knots of green wood dyed from the lake-air that when looked at long enough depicted a face experiencing some morose displeasure. “Allow me to put you out of your misery…” Hayl mumbled as he lunged from about 6 feet away, drawing his dagger sheathed on his left forearm with his right hand. He had yet to open his eyes fully, and wasn’t quite conscious enough to avoid one slight rise in a dock plank that he frequently catches a toe on, which he just did. As he face-planted he thought to himself “I’m allowed only one of these mistakes, today”. When his forehead slammed into the dock making an awful raking sound, he laid there for a moment eyes closed, kissing the ground while breathing through a scrunched nose. Then he raised his head and opened his eyes staggered and sloth-like. The dagger stuck straight out of the wood, about two inches from his right hand. He made eye contact again with Joss, but from a more submissive position.

Hayl was a little hung-over, and never a good morning person, but once he forced him-self awake and put his back into it, nothing could stop him. Ravok was a city just begging for a master thief to make himself legendary amidst the sloshing docks. He knew that one day it would happen. He had to just stay focused, keep his training consistent, and make his goals reality.

He pushed himself up, rubbing his forehead as he stood. He was definitely awake now. He bent down and pulled the dagger out of the wood with a little wiggle to help it give, and then pointed it at Joss. “I know all your tricks now…” he said more proudly and swiftly made the dagger disappear back into his left sleeve with a soft clicking sound. He then returned to his starting position, this time he looked over his shoulder. This part of the docks were still empty. Hayl sighed as he snatched off his poncho and threw it by his boots and linen shirt, now exposing his wrist sheaths that lined his forearms with the small daggers.

Hayl closed his eyes and rolled his neck, then focused on the post again. He went through the mechanics of his strike step by step in his mind over and over until that perfect moment to try had arrived. He lunged forward, grasping the hilt of the dagger on his left wristed dagger with his right index and middle finger, snatching the blade out as he planted his first step, rising his left fore-arm over his head as both a distraction and a guard, chambering his right arm back to his side as he readied the dagger in the thrusting position. Planting his next foot down, Hayl snapped his entire body into the step and exploded his right arm straight out and sinking it a solid inch into Joss’s many notched and marked face. Hayl retracted the dagger swiftly and sprung back, spinning the blade back against his right fore-arm chambered again in, this time in defensive form. "That was pretty good, huh Joss?”.

Sneaky sneak (Redd)

Redd had gotten up fairly early, just as she always did and only sometimes would she leave the room before her master would wake. Today was one of those days that she would leave the room before he would wake as she had wanted to catch the sight of the sun rising across the lake's surface. Its yellows, reds and peach colours alluring in a way, especially the way it dappled upon the lake's surface. The dappling effect always reminded her of a fawn, especially with the way that the white markings upon their rump dappled there against their brown coats. She liked to watch the sun from the docks, a secluded place that she had found on one of her day trips around Ravok while she had been attempting to learn the layout. When ever she felt like she was about to finally get a grip upon the city, there was always some other place she would stumble across and it was as if Ravok was a city full of surprises all over again.

Tugging on the edge of her red scarf that was wrapped firmly around her leather collared neck, she made quick way through the streets of Ravok. Her steady breaths coming in and then out as she jogged. To the curious eye, she was just a simple black and red figure, as her outfit was all black and her hair was a brindled red, the colours black and brown also threading through her hair with the occasional white streak. It was not a normal hair colour found within Ravok, or so she had found out, as every other red head that she had come across so far, was a straight red, no other colours mixing in through it to make it brindled.

Upon reaching the spot among the docks where it was secluded and where the remnants of an abandoned house stood, her bare feet slowed to a walk and then to a stop as her hazel hues spotted a male also occupying this area of the docks this morning. She was tempted to walk away, as she hadn't been seen yet, but she saw the male standing there upon the docks with only a pair of pants on. He didn't even have a shirt on and she consciously tugged her black cloak closer to her form, hoping to not be seen. Her gaze took note of the thick scar upon his shoulder and the long one upon his stomach and she briefly wondered how he got them, had he been in a fight with another human? This man was more slender than her master and he was also just that little bit shorter, perhaps her master would more than likely be able to over-power this man in a fight.

Her hazel gaze silently watched as he went through what seemed like a pattern of movements. He was doing something and it involved the small daggers that he appeared to have, but what it was, she just didn't know. Her master hadn't taught her the mechanics of holding a weapon, nor how to use one. Perhaps it was because she was still learning to read and he didn't want to give her too much to learn too soon. However, Redd was constantly looking for new ways to improve herself for her master and patience was not one of best traits. In fact, she'd rather act with violence then patience, but that was a habit that her master was trying to break her of.

Suddenly, his voice reached her ears and she leaned forwards a frown creasing her facial features. "That was pretty good, huh Joss?” Joss? Was he talking to the post? Did humans always name a post that didn't breath air? Or was that only the ones that they stabbed at? She couldn't help but giggle at this, a hand lifting to cover her lips, as her hazel hues stared at the half naked man before her in humour. He was funny in a way and while he was certainly not as tall as her master, she still found that the male had a charm of his own. Was it because he talked to a post? Or the fact that she had stumbled across him in the same place that she sometimes came to watch the sun rise.

He made ready to slash horizontally across the mid-section of Joss when he heard muffled giggling from behind him. The surprise caused him to stutter step but he had already committed to the strike and followed through, missing the post all together. He almost pulled his arm out of socket, but felt the sharp pain of his rotary cuff stress at the underestimated velocity of his arm propelling from his body. The pain caused him to drop the dagger with a loud collection of clangs on the hard wood. Hayl turned completely around as he embraced his right shoulder with his left hand, and slammed his back against Joss, sliding down to sit propped against the post. He grimaced with one eye as the pain slowly dulled away all the while scanning his surroundings for the guilty party of the giggling. “Agh… Who’s there?” he finally vocalized his pain. The giggle sounded familiar and mixed with the burst of pain he felt it sent tickling prickles of fear as his brain dumped into his consciousness unwanted memories of how he got the scars on his body. He opened both eyes and rotated his shoulder making sure there was no damage. The pain shot back when he pivoted it towards the front, but it faded by the third rotation, and was gone by the sixth. His pain no longer a factor in his judgment his heart began to beat heavier from fear of the unknown, and he scrambled to reach his dagger. Slapping the ground two times and missing it before putting the hilt in his palm. He grasped it and pointed shaking into the direction he heard it. He stood slowly before his eyes focused on the hooded figure by the debris. Then his eyes widened as he was sure it was someone he remembered, but then he saw a strand of faded red hair blow in the wind. Then the overwhelming relaxation of endorphins dumping caused him to catch his breath. “Shyke… You scared me about to death.”

Hayl placed the dagger back with the familiar click, and realized his shirt was off. “Ah petch!” she knew now where he stored his weapons. Secrets unveiled, he still ran to his cloak/poncho hybrid and threw it on. He touched the hilt of his daggers to make sure they were fitted the way he liked them in his sleeves, and then realized he was drawing more attention to them and slapped his arms to his sides. “She found us out, Joss-“he cut himself of and narrowed his lips shaking his head at himself. Once caught he was terrible at trying to recover, then he got frustrated that the simple presence of the girlish figured cloaked wonder in front of him could make him so jumpy, “… Why are you sneaking up on people to begin with? Are you looking for a fight?” he said with a sigh. The words left him before he could retract them. “Why am I saying such things to strangers in secluded real-estate?” One would think Hayl would learn his lesson by now.

She snickered for a moment as a smirk fell into place upon her soft lips, her hazel hues watching the male as he gripped his right shoulder with his left hand before pressing his back against the post of which she figured that he had called 'Joss.' Her gaze then followed his movements down till he was in a sitting position. He seemed to grimaced while looking for what she assumed, was her. She wasn't exactly hiding, in fact she was standing in clear view of the male as his words reached her ears. “Agh… Who’s there?” Who is there? Did that mean that he was blind? He didn't appear to be blind, especially seeing as he had been using a weapon. A blind man, would stab them self if they used a blade, wouldn't they? Especially if they couldn't see.

The young wolf watched as his hand seemed to flail about, patting the ground, or was it called scrambling? It kind of looked like patting the ground and she angled her head slightly to the right as he grasped the small dagger that had fallen onto the dock when he had missed the post. It was then that he pointed it in her direction and she couldn't help but blink, did he really think that she was going to attack? The woman had to fight back an instinctual response to growl and become rather defensive, especially when a human pointed a weapon in her direction. It generally meant that they mean harm and having been chased by humans before, it wasn't exactly surprising that this was his response to her presence. As he slowly stood up from his position upon the docks, his gaze appeared to have finally spotted her still form and his appearance seemed to relax then “Shyke… You scared me about to death.”

He would then place his dagger back and her hearing picked up the soft click that followed the movement and a curse soon followed such actions as he rushed to throw on an article of clothing. What was it? A shirt? Was it some kind of fashion statement? She remembered how her and her master had first met and they had had a little bit of fun in a store, with putting on odd clothing. Perhaps this was some kind of odd piece of clothing that normal people didn't usually wear? Her gaze followed every bit of his movements with close scrutiny, taking especially good note of the way he had touched the daggers in their concealed place. Did she scare him? She wondered as he slapped his hands to his sides and he began to speak to the post again, although cut off at the end, “She found us out, Joss-“

Redd had simply remained silent, that was until his next words caught her slightly off guard. “… Why are you sneaking up on people to begin with? Are you looking for a fight?” She was sneaking up on people and looking for a fight? She didn't realize that she had even been on the hunt, all she could remember was thinking about that beautiful sun rise that she had wanted to watch. Slowly, she then lifted her right hand up to pull back the hood of her cloak, her pale features then revealed to the male before her and she then rubbed the back of her left hand, over her half black sun that had been tattooed there. "I don't sneak up onto people unless..." Unless she was on a hunt, she finished off in her head. Besides, she had basically been banned from hunting by her master unless he was there. How could she reassure him that she was of no harm to him? She was in human form... Plus her master didn't permit her to carry a weapon, so then had to be something... Right?

"I wasn't looking for a fight, nor was I here sneaking up on you... I like to watch the sun rise, although I guess I have missed it now." She nodding her head towards the post, her hand lifting to swipe back her brindled hair from her face. "Do you normally talk to things that don't breath often? Are you a lonely person? She had asked the last question because her master had said to envision Ravok like a pack of wolves, if this man was a lone man, didn't that mean that he would be sure to die if he didn't blend in with Ravok?

Hayl’s right eye twitched at the audacity of her question. Her poignant and emotionless method to ask questions seemed familiar for some reason, but he pushed the reminiscence out of his mind until he could get a hold on who she was really. What really bothered him was why that question struck a nerve, Hayl would never admit that he is lonely, in fact he would bolster that that is the price one gives to become a great thief. No friends means no betrayal. A price Hayl would say he would gladly spend. But then why does her question bother him so? Why is he naming inanimate object and talking to them as if they were close friends? He walked over to his clothing and put his boots back on and returned his shirt to his satchel. “Sorry I ruined your sunrise morning” He said half mockingly. “No madam shady, I am not lonely.” He growled as he carried out his tasks, acting too busy to pay her any attention. “I was training, and thought I had the area to my lonesome till…” he finally looked back at her; he saw a certain form of naivety that surmounted her face. As if soaking up every word of his like a sponge in a manner a child would when being told a fascinating story. That feeling of Déjà vu returned to him as if he talked to someone like her very recently. “Do I know you?” he asked bluntly, “You seem familiar… and not in the “I’m going to stab you” way that I was doing earlier.” He placed the bag around his shoulders and took heavy notice of her light face. Her features seemed familiar in their own respect. He tried not acting to invested in the question that he asked, but meeting strangers was a rarity for Hayl. Meeting strangers that share something in common with him, was even more rare.

Redd took note of the fact that the strange man's right eye had twitched when she had asked her question. Why? She wasn't exactly sure, had her question been of an offensive nature? Her hazel gaze followed the man as he walked over to pull his boots onto his feet and put his shirt into his back pack. She remained standing where was she was for the moment, content on not really doing anything. Her frustrations had been pushed aside to give way to curiousity with the man that stood in front of her. He was different to the main body of Ravok's people, he wasn't so... He seemed a little... She couldn't exactly quite get the word to come forth into the front of her mind and it tinged the thought process with frustration. She would just add it to the ever growing list of things that she seemed to not be very good at doing.

The male had started talking about training and that he had thought that he had area all to his lonesome when his words then cut off. He had said lonesome? Did that mean that he was mostly alone? That he felt lonely? Wait, that was the word she had been trying to think of before, when she thought that he seemed to be a little of something. His next words caught her a little off guard however. “Do I know you? You seem familiar… and not in the “I’m going to stab you” way that I was doing earlier.” She seemed familiar to him? She blinked for a moment as a frown seemed to settle across her features. The young wolf just didn't think that she had seen him anywhere else prior to this meeting, she would have noticed someone like him and the fingers of her right hand gently lifted to trace over the half black sun, tattooed upon the back of her left hand. It appeared to be a habit, was it for reassurance? She just couldn't quite work that one out either.

Finally a sigh settled upon her soft lips and her right hand twitched and instead, moved to swipe away her brindled red hair from her pale face. "No... I don't think that you know me, no one really knows me and I'm mostly invisible to the people here in Ravok now." She finally made a movement and she walked passed the strange man and towards the edge of the docks, her gaze looking down into the surface of the lake, her pale reflection glaring back up at her. "I'm told by my master that giving names is a customary thing to do, so, my name is Redd." Yes... Her name was Redd, but why did it even matter? She was judged for being a kelvic and if she wasn't being judged for that, she was shoved aside and over-looked. Glancing up, she took note of the fact that the sun had risen above the horizon and she turned away from it. "Well, I guess I'll just leave you to your training." She said as she waved a hand in the direction of the post name 'Joss.'

He watched her as she passed him, everything about her body language screamed innocent and harmless. He felt the final rush of relaxation go over him when he allowed himself to accept that there was no threat here. His eyes tracked her curiously as she continued on past him to the edge of the dock and couldn’t help but admire her near colorless silhouette amidst the bursting sunlight. The morning sun was weak enough Hayl could like right into light especially as it bleed around her near figureless form. He then felt compelled to sit next to her and approached her left side and sat down allowing his feet to dangle over the dock and his toes to rest in the water. “Hmm… I guess you have one of those faces.” He said in response to her answer to his question.

"Well, I guess I'll just leave you to your training.”

“Redd… that’s an interesting name.” he said ignoring her good-bye. “I’m Hayl, and the fact that I talk to a post doesn’t necessarily mean I’m lonely… “ He looked up at her with a soft smile, “… it could mean I’m crazy.” He let a short chuckle and reset his gaze on the burning semi-circle. Hayl took a deep breath and enjoyed silence with another person. Something he hadn’t enjoyed in a while, maybe even years. As the sun grew higher his eyes started to squint and the furrow of his brow made dark lines accenting the sharp features of the top of his nose-bridge and the sides of his eyes. His sapphire-blue irises became illuminated with the direct sun-light contrasted by the small dark dots of his pupils, and his multi-shaded stubble on his chin showed about two days of unkempt. After a few moments of silence to continue to admire the beauty of the water-borne sunrise Hayl finally spoke after relaying Redd’s words in his mind. “Master? So you must be a Kelvic. You are too naïve looking to be a regular slave. “ He said slouched over kicking his feet and skimming the top of the rippling lake.

Hayl eventually shifted back allowing his hands to prop him up as he took another deep breath, but this time he held it until he finally let it out with these words, “If I was lonely… and I’m not saying that I am, but if I was I would be able to tell that something was up with you. Are you typically this stoic or is something troubling you?” he rounded of his words by looking up at her, his left eye squinting firmly shut as it was closest to the sun, while his right forcing itself to stay open so Hayl could witness her response.

"“Redd… that’s an interesting name.” It was words that had made her stay where she was and her gaze flickered down to view the male as he was seated on the edge of the docks. Slowly, she would move to seat herself down upon its edge as well, her hazel hues viewing the water for a moment before she touched the water with her bare feet. It feels, funny in a way, she thought to herself as she listened to the strange male talk. So his name was Hayl? It kind of sounded the same as someone else she knew, although it started with a... She thought about it for a moment before giving up, she was still too new to reading and after this encounter, she would probably spend more time at her master's desk going over the letters that he had written out for her. It was odd as they sat in silence, it wasn't really uncomfortable for she felt that they might as well share this spot here, but it was something that she had yet to experience with someone. Her master was just too busy to spend time with her and even when he did spend time with her, it was for to do things like hunt, but not kill.

The young wolf splashed her feet against the water a couple of times, she figured that if the water beast hadn't eaten her yet, then she might as well enjoy splashing her feet in the water. It was a different sensation upon her feet rather than the same old cobble stone and wood, she missed the feel of fertile earth underneath her feet, well, her paws. A smile had curved her lips when the male had mentioned crazy, she probably would have gone crazy by now, had it not been for her master keeping her in check all of the time. She wanted to taste blood, mostly just the blood of her kills, but for now, she would have to settle a very unsatisfying meal of Ravokian food. "I like to think that we are all a little some-what crazy." She said softly as her gaze flickered to Hayl. He was different, he wasn't like her master, this man was most definitely, lighter, perhaps.

His word turned to her being a kelvic and her shoulders slumped as her gaze turned back to the water that lapped over her feet. “If I was lonely… and I’m not saying that I am, but if I was I would be able to tell that something was up with you. Are you typically this stoic or is something troubling you?” Was something troubling her? She was stoic? He was a pretty good observer, especially to have picked up the fact that she was kelvic from only saying the one word. "Master Elias requires me to do things without complaint, to accept things as they are." She said softly as her right hand reached up to gently tug the red scarf away from her neck, revealing the leather collar underneath. She didn't think that there was any need to hide it anymore seeing as the male knew that she was a kelvic and she clasped the material within her hands as she took a deep breath and slowly let it out. "He wants me to be a better kelvic... So he has me learning how to read and write, but it's rather boring. I'm more used to things that require having to move around a lot. Physical activities like running."

Her shoulders rose and fell in a shrug as a sigh settled upon her lips. Hayl had said something about not being lonely, but he had also said something about if he was, he would be able to tell that something was troubling her. So did that mean that he was lonely? She lifted her gaze to view the male beside her as the rising sun outlined his form. If he knew she was kelvic, then why would he bothered about asking if something was troubling her? Was this some kind of human plot? If it was, then why would he indirectly say that he was lonely? Her pale fingers gently toyed with the scarf between her fingers and her gaze shifted to view the material. Redd reverted back to when he had said that her name was interesting, she didn't see how though, for she basically named herself. If she had a name that her mother knew her by, then she did not know it. "Hayl is an interesting name too," She said softly. She didn't want to be considered rude up top of whatever stoic meant, so she had returned his compliment.

Sneaky sneak (Redd)

Postby Hayl on July 16th, 2014, 6:46 am

He brought his knees up to his face and peered over them, hugging his legs closely as he let himself go deeper in thought. Perhaps he became so calm to acclimate himself after the work-out that got interrupted, or maybe the presence of the girl was really that soothing to him. Still, he rubbed his eyes before he got too sleepy and stretched.

"Hayl is an interesting name too.”

He looked up at her after she said her pleasantries to him and gave her a funny smile. “Whatever…” he chuckled. He finally stood and stretched the rest of his body. His back made a loud popping sound. “Reading and writing are important… but so is a free spirit.” He looked at her collar, “If you are so loyal to your master, why do you conceal the fact you are owned by him?” Nodding to scarf in her hands. “I never understood slaves, my own mother was one, she lived a miserable life because of it, unfortunately.” He said with a brush of emotion at the beginning, but then the sentence was vocalized with a majority of over-thought callousness as if he were stating a simple fact about the weather. “I would personally fight until I was free to do what I wanted, or died trying.” Kelvics, although fairly new and foreign to him, still held a pang of sympathy with the thief. He hated slavery, and Kelvics seem to be a species born to be taken advantage of.

His eyes widened as he remembered something, “You don’t transform into a giant bird or anything, do you?” Hayl has a desperate fear of birds, mainly chickens. Though he wouldn’t admit it, but ever since a childhood trauma he suffered involving an over protective chicken around her nest he would never look at birds the same. He had a run in with that Dolce girl the other day, the very thought of her other half made him quiver.

“So! You want to run around and practice your hunting and whatnot. My training isn’t exactly done. Wanna help me out?” Hayl didn’t know Redd’s master, but for him to allow her to run around the city, he must also allow her to make some of her own decisions. A little physical activity couldn’t hurt anything. Besides, it’s been years since Hayl has trained with another person. “I’m not exactly a professional, but I could show you a thing or two in combat or something, my specialty is stealth, but you already snuck up on me, so you may need no help with that.” He joked, but tried to avoid larceny as a skill topic altogether.

"Whatever" Chuckled the strange male as he moved to stand up and she followed suit, pulling her feet up out of the water so then she too could stand up on the edge of the dock as she simply moved to wrap the scarf around her neck. Hayl continued talking and she simply listened. A free spirit? Fight until she was free? Her master wasn't a cruel man, he was just too busy for her. Her master only sought to help her become a better kelvic, he was also alpha, so he also knew what was best for her. She brushed her hair back as he indirectly asked what kind of animal that she shifted into. She blinked as she watched the male for a moment, his eyes widened before she looked over at the water again. She found it rather curious that this man wanted to know what kind of animal she was, but from the sound of his tone, he hoped that she wasn't a bird. A smirk slipped into place upon her lips as a giggle then passed them, he was strange, but funny all at the same time.

As his words slowly came to a stop after joking about stealth, it had most certainly put the idea of stealth training into her head. If she could move a lot more quieter, without being known she could most definitely hunt a lot quieter as well and animals would not realize that she was there until she was basically on top of them. It would also mean that she could maybe, stalk through wolf territory without being known, unless of course they caught wind of her scent. She angled her head for a moment, silent, before she realized that she still had yet to answer the male's questions. "I wear a scarf over my collar because it's what master wants." She lifted her hand so then the male could view the half black sun tattooed there. "But, this tattoo also tells people that I am owned by my master, so it's fine if I cover up my collar."

She turned to smile at the male as a mischief grin crossed her lips. "If I told you that I was a giant bird, would you run away?" She giggled at this before she shook her head, "No, I'm not a big bird, I am apparently much scarier than that. I shift into a wolf and people don't really like it when I'm in my wolf form, except master. He likes it when I shift upon his command." She nodded her head at this as she shifted her attention to the other topic. What did she want to do in regards to training? She really did want to do some stealth training, it would have so many benefits as a whole for her. "I think that stealth training might be better for me, seeing as it might also be easier to train me in stealth than it would in combat."
