Willow La Croix

Postby Willow La Croix on August 16th, 2015, 2:48 pm

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 83
Birthday: 8th Day, Winter, 432 AV.
Birthplace: Syliras

Appearance: Willow La Croix is an ugly old crone, her stringy gray hair and pale, wrinkled face shrouded by the hood of a dark cloak she wears. Her long nose potrudes from the hood of the cape, a wart on the end of it. In her old age, she does not stand well, her back bent from years of lifting heavy logs for a fire. When she moves around the forest, she uses a long wooden cane to get around. Her fingernails are claw-like, and her teeth are equally jagged. In short, she is one of the most unattractive creatures you will ever see in the Syliria region.

Character Concept

An outcast from Syliras society, Willow La Croix specializes in crafting poisons and medicines. She was born with the ability to use magic, so some might call her a "witch", but because she has never caused trouble before and has kept a low profile over the years, the people of Syliras leave her alone - mostly. Occasionally she will provide a poison for someone plotting a murder, or provide an herbal remedy for the brave soul that ventures out to see her in the Purple Forest. But mostly, she keeps to herself and enjoys the quiet. Using her small skill in Spiritism, she is able to communicate with the ghosts from time to time. As she grows older, she becomes increasingly aware of her mortality, thus motivating her to study ways magic can help her live longer. She has also been studying darker aspects of magic, in case the knights of Syliras decide to start a witch-hunt. When she runs short on supplies she will make the long trek to the markets in Syliras, though the journey is becoming increasingly difficult for her. So, one day while in the market, she bought a covered wagon and a mule to pull it.

Character History

The La Croix family was always full of magic users. Every generation (usually the women) had at least some small skill that they could use to benefit the family and ensure survival in very harsh living conditions. Willow's father generated income by creating potions and remedies, as he was very brilliant. Willow's mother was an expert in malediction, selling her services on the black market, beneath the notice of the Syliras officials. From an early age, Willow began to show signs of skill in Spiritism, because she would often see and talk to ghosts, especially when the family made trips far outside the gates of the city, into the shadowy reaches of the forests. Living in Syliras became increasingly dangerous, as Willow's mother suspected her clients were tipping off the knights about her business in dark magic. Willow's father suggested they start a new life in the Purple Forest, where no one would think to look for them. Willow helped her parents build a cottage in the forest, a process that took several years, and most of their money. During this time her parents taught her everything they knew about wilderness survival, including how to hunt, build fires, and use materials from the forest for medicine and poison. Word got out that the family was soon leaving for Purple Forest, and a few knights became uneasy. They feared once the family retreated to safety in the wild, they would be lost forever and their magical ways would continue, unrestrained by the rules of the city. Willow and her parents packed their few belongings in a horse-drawn wagon and set off, finally leaving the oppressive atmosphere of Syliras. However, they were secretly followed by five knights who had decided to eliminate the family, before they caused any trouble. The La Croixs were ambushed in the Cobalt Mountains, where no one could hear their screams. The knights threw a lantern atop the wagon, setting it ablaze, and the frightened horse broke free from its restraints, retreating into the dark. Willow was pulled to safety by her parents, who were ready to defend their daughter to the death. However, her father only had an axe, and her mother, only a dagger. They were not trained to fight against the skill of so many knights, who had decided to kill the mother first, for she was the most dangerous. Willow, at the age of 11, watched them shoot her mother with arrows. It had started to rain heavily, with loud crashes of thunder and hot white streaks of lightning. The wagon burned bright in the night, and lightning lit up the cold mountains. Willow's father cried out, but took advantage of the moment as his wife fell, grabbing his daughter and retreating into the dark, twisting curves of the mountains. Willow and her father hid for several hours from the knights, until they gave up the chase, deciding the pair would soon die in the cold anyway. Willow's father searched for his wife's body, but could not find her, and decided the safest course of action would be to ensure his daughter made it to their cottage in the Purple Forest. The pair made it to their new home, minus their mother and wife, and their horse, and most of their supplies, which had been lost in the fire. Willow's father vowed to start a new life, one that would not be easy, but one that would ensure Willow could expand upon her magical talents without fear of retaliation. The next few years were very difficult. Food was scarce, living was hard. Her father set up a quiet business trading medicine and poisons for food and material. However, living without his wife became too much to bear. Helping his daughter survive kept him going, but once she reached young adulthood, he realized she could survive without him. Willow woke up one day, looking for him, but could not find him anywhere. She ventured into the forest, calling out his name. Eventually, she found him. He had taken his own life, hung himself from a tree. Willow was heartbroken, but understood her father's reasons. Life was hard, harder without the comfort that her mother had provided. Wiping her eyes, she got her father down, and buried him in the yard. She was now on her own. Over the years, she continued her father's business of trading medicine and poison for food and material, but sometimes she would make secret trips into the city, her face obscured by the cloak she wrapped herself in. Nobody remembered who she was, and no one asked. She had always been very ugly, even as a child, so she did not draw too much attention from other people. From then on she spent much of her time in isolation, only communicating with the living when she needed supplies. At some point she made contact with the ghosts of her deceased parents, or they made contact with her, rather. It was a reassuring experience, as if her parents were literally reaching out and wrapping their arms around her, ensuring they were together in the afterlife. However, as the years went on, Willow felt her mother's presence grow angrier and darker. Why was she angry, Willow asked. Her mother wanted to see vengeance brought down on the knights who had murdered her. She begged Willow to find some way to get revenge, and Willow considered it. Eventually she agreed to her mother's wishes, which brought some peace to her spirit. Willow began studying the darker aspects of magic, and also how to prolong her own life, so that she would have more time to exact her revenge. Her early experiments were disastrous, marking her body and leaving her somewhat disfigured, walking with a limp. However, she vowed never to give up, even if it was the last thing she would do. She would find some way to harm the knights of Syliras...their crime against her family could not go unpunished. As she became an old woman, she found she did desire some company around the cottage, so she went out to the city to buy a cat. The animal was black as night, as black as her vengeful heart, and had an instant connection to the old woman. La Croix also began to worship the God Vayt, because of his connection with making the strong and healthy become weak, something she longs to see happen to those in Syliras. Now, Willow La Croix hides in the darkness of Purple Forest, plotting and studying, rarely venturing out. She has lost herself in ancient texts of dark magic, slowly building her skills and waiting for the day she is strong enough to right the wrongs that happened so long ago...

Moderator Intervention

The Issue(s): You are only allowed 5 characters on this site. This is your sixth if not more. I haven't dug deeper. But you need to rework one of your other pcs. You haven't had any posts to speak of on the other five, so you can rework them into new concepts if you do not like them. This can be done until you have 50 posts. You will NEVER be allowed to go over your 5 pc limit. If they have more than 50 posts, that means you gave the pc a real effort, and at that point if you still don't like them you can retire them via the HD and play more.

Also, you can't live in cottages in the woods. Your PC has no skills that would allow them to survive there with all the dangers. You MUST start within a city.

PM me when you have the above issues corrected and this intervention will be removed.
