AppearanceRace: Benshira
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Birthday: 81st of Winter, 587
Birthplace: Yahebah
Appearance: Stocky with a barrel chest, Nim is a large and powerful man. His skin is callous and weathered, tinted pale by the cold climate he has grown accustomed to. He sports a large jaw that is adorned with a hearty beard. His bushy eyebrows hang above two eyes as green as the forest. His hands are large, with wide strong fingers and chewed nails.
He often wears basic and simple clothing, just enough for modesty. When the weather is disagreeable, he wears a thick fur jacket and heavy, and well-maintained boots. Nim can almost always be seen with his wooden staff, as he carries it with him everywhere when he is in town.
Character ConceptA tall and large, powerfully built man, Nim embodies what it takes to traverse the wilderness with any modicum of success. He believes that in the act of getting to know the wilds he can forge himself into something that can adapt and grow with each passing season. The end result, he hopes, is to see more of the world and help more people see the world as he does.
Nim is first and foremost honest and just. He doesn't believe in misleading people or extorting them for coin. He works hard when he must, and prefers to help others find the same mindset rather than chide them for laziness. He can be slightly irritable, especially when under pressure. If he hears himself yell, this is usually enough to bring him down to earth.
His faith in Yahal guides his actions and preferences. He will not allow himself to succumb to vice and will not use women for pleasure. He isn't one to blindly preach about Yahal. Humble, Nim will only offer Yahal to those who look to be in need that he cannot himself physically help. He will often take his time to think things through rather than walk blindly into uncertainty, and is quick to stop others from making the same mistake.
His mind is both at peace and at war in the wilderness. He is most comfortable and has the most clarity of thought while he is surrounded by nature. Inversely, he is most wary and careful in such a place and often forms educated guesses about the places he should avoid. He prefers to stick to areas that he has traveled before.
Nim finds solace in simple diets. He will eat out of respect when offered a meal, but he prefers vegetables and beans. Of course, anything he can forage on the trail to make his rations last longer is also important.
Character HistoryA son to a fisherman and a cook, Nim had humble origins. He was born aboard his father's casinor off the coast of Yahebah, that very day having been a great haul for the family business. Because of this, his father often joked that he was a gift from Laviku. However, as he grew he became distant from the sea and took to his mother on land. As a child, he was fascinated with other lands and began to read about them at a library.
He has three brothers, of which he is the eldest. Two of his brothers are fishermen like his father while the last disappeared one day on the streets of Yahebah. Nim has always felt contested about not knowing what truly happened to his brother, but those feelings and thoughts were repressed upon becoming faithful to Yahal.
As a youth, he vowed to stray from vice and sin as best he could at the request of his mother who taught him everything he knows about the deity. He took this to heart, seeking to become a better version of himself every year as time went on. As a result, he became more humble and positive despite the difficult world he lived in.
A dream once fancied became close to Nim's fingertips when he met a man that intended to travel across the sea by way of Svefra merchants. He remembers saying goodbye to his family and watching as his father's boat saw him off, Yahebah fading from view one final time. At the young age of 17, he was taught to use the quarterstaff by the man who was revealed to be a devout monk of Yahal as they headed up the inland sea together.
After the long voyage and arriving in Alvadas, he stayed with the monk and worked hard as a laborer to pay a man to guide him through the wilds surrounding Alvadas. Eventually, he started to head out on his own when he had learned enough, but never very far as he was simply focused on learning about the dangers that existed out there and surviving.
After his latest excursion, he returned to find that the monk he had been splitting the rent with was no longer there. Upon the bed was a goodbye letter, it read: "I must return to Yahebah. I will say hello to your family once I am there. May Yahal watch over you, and I pray for your safety."
The note was a surprise to Nim. He would have liked to say goodbye, but he was sure the man had his reasons for leaving. Regardless, Nim knew what he wanted to do. He knew it was dangerous. He knew he couldn't foresee a future where that man followed him into such a place, so he continued on soundly.
As time passed, he grew more comfortable with his abilities and his faith that Yahal would guide him on a safe path. He began to talk with local herbalists, offering his service as a guide. Soon, he'd talked with local tavern owners and spread the word. Still, he knows, something is missing.
