Grassland Sign is a silent form of Pavi, the language of the Drykas, in which emphasis is used on emotions or context in order to form a more complete idea of what is being said. Grassland Sign is often used by the Drykas when out hunting to minimize noise and to maximize visual cues so that hunting can be more streamlined and effective. Grassland sign is NOT its own individual language and cannot be learned without knowing Pavi.

An example of how Grassland Sign works is simple. Character A tells someone "I love you." That statement is then followed by a grassland sign that might be a complex gesture. That gesture can then give further information, usually conveying an emotion, such as 'frustration'. This would be used when a mother was worried about her son whom she loved but was frustrated that he was out late at night. Another "I love you." situation might occur when a Grassland Sign gesture is used to convey 'thankfulness' as in when one friend helps another during a time of need and that friend conveys their love and thanks for that person being in their life. Pavi is a simple language whereas Grassland sign augments it to express emotion and meaning for the simple use of words.

Another use might be when a Drykas says "I'm hungry." And then they might follow through with a question gesture that would indicate to another Drykas 'When's dinner?" A slightly different version of that question gesture might turn this statement a question regarding 'What's for dinner?'. Grassland sign is Pavi and Pavi is Grassland sign. The two are inseparable.
