Alright, I have had procrastination issues all my life and it has totally been a pain in the butt. I've wanted to be organized so badly and theres lots of stuff I have wanted to do, I even plan out how and when I'll do it. And then when I get to the point of doing it I often deviate. It has been nearly impossible to stay on my 'schedule' (my #1 obstacle being waking up early in the morning instead of sleeping in like I love to do).
But something happened recently that has totally helped me stay on track with (most of) the items I plan in my agenda. I started making commitments that involve other people. Commitments to attend every lecture are a bit harder especially when no one takes attendence, but what has worked really well for me is making commitments to meet up and study with a study group from my classes. Along with that I made a commitment to attend this class at the gym i'm really enjoying. the gym is at my university so I have to go to school to attend it and then when I get out I am so close to class I rarely skip because I'm already there.
It is so hard to make plans just for myself, so I've joined study groups in every one of my classes. Having people who are waiting on you to explain stuff to them and bounce ideas off of makes skipping and procrastinating a lot harder to go through with. The guilt is just too much!
As for keeping things organized in your agenda, it is simply a matter of remembering to take your agenda out of your bag when you get home and leave it open on your desk next to your computer no matter what you're doing. Even if you're not gonna be writing anything in it for the next day, if you can remember to have it IN sight at all times, you will be more inclined to write things in it. Make commitments and kick yourself to stick to them, thats what has worked for me. Also make commitments to do activities that you genuinely enjoy; perhaps a dancing class or drawing club or writing club or whatever it is that really interests you.
One of my big motivators for cutting down on my procrastination has been repeatedly reminding myself that there is a lot of stuff I want to accomplish in life. I have a lot of long term goals that really really REALLY depend on me being able to stay organized and committed NOW. Even though i still procrastinate in lots of little ways throughout the week, I am so passionate about my goals that I find myself being miserable if I am not working towards those goals.
Good Luck! You can do it!
