Parents- Are they really that bad? by Lavine on April 21st, 2013, 11:08 pm
Is it just me, or do parents have a bad rap? My own mom must just be extra cool, but I love hanging out with her. Just the other day, we were taking our dog on a walk together. We were talking, enjoying the scenery, and having a generally good time, but I could feel the eyes on us. One kid laughed, -literally laughed and pointed!- as we passed by. I might just be paranoid, but I feel like it wasn't a coincidence.
Then, later that day, we were at the mall. I stumbled across a couple of people from school (I wouldn't say friends necessarily...) but I waved regardless. One of them waved back, while the others just gave me the "jock nod". I nodded at my mom and headed over to talk to them, maybe ask a question about homework, nothing much really. But all three steered around me and went the other way. They clearly thought they were too cool to talk to me. I felt slightly miffed, they had gone out of their way to avoid me! My mom noticed this, and being quite protective, waved energetically. She shouted across the mall, "Hey! Don't you know those kids? Hi!!" All three kids gave me a horrified look and stumbled away as fast as they could possibly go without being caught by the mall cops.
I gave my mom a single look and we both fell into stitches. I laughed until my stomach hurt and tears streamed down my face. We had to stop in the food court and sit down. People from every side got up and left because we were making too much noise. I have never felt so proud of my mother in my life.
These are only a few examples. We have been out on countless occasions where my mom was the highlight of the trip. This makes me wonder, does everyone else really hate their parents, or do they just act like it? The world may never know...

About Me by Fusha on December 24th, 2011, 3:56 am
Hello everyone, here goes my first blog post. Not really sure what to talk about though…
I guess I’ll start out with some things about me. I’m in 7th grade and I love writing, games, and sports. Our JV Basketball team at my school (which I was on) won the division championship last year. We’re 1-3 this year but we’re getting better. I’m the highest scorer overall. I just got into text-based games with Zork, then Beyond Zork, then I started to play MUDs. My favorite MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) is called Geas and I play it actively, my character is Fusha. That was the first game in which I really roleplayed, and now here I am. This is technically my first roleplaying forum, but I’ve read on others before.
So yeah, there’s my first entry! Fusha

Me Ranting about My Own Church by Skylar Draykin on July 6th, 2014, 4:14 pm
If this isn't allowed feel free to say so through pm. I'm currently sitting in my church listening to my pastor speak about our new youth pastors. I am no longer apart of the youth group as I am graduated and what not. I'm trying to get my life in order both spiritually and physically. Let me start by saying I'm against my pastor. I'm against a lot of things be stands for and I think he has done no good for us. I cannot say I'm a good christian- far from it. But we used to be known for our ...realness? I guess I'm at a loss for the word right now. But for our passion andd commitment to eachother to lift eachother up. So os it wrong of me to dislike him when ever since he came I- a member for eight years- have felt a coldness and fakeness from the people I used to call my family? But everyone likes to pretend. Our church has also been known for musicals, plays, skits, and acting. Sothey have seemed to be intertwining the things we use for showing our faith in their everyday lives. Or at least, every sunday and church event. And the pastor is the greatest fake of them all.. Again, I'm not perfect, nobody is. But I don't think the leader of a church society should be able to force himself to cry over every single subject. aim sorry but that is humanly impossible. Its not human is what I mean. Goat, why don't you find another church? When you've built a relationship with people for eight-nine years, you tend to get attatched. The one thing that pretty much saved me in highschool was youth group.I loved youth group. feeling as if I belong somewhere. having older kids to look up to(as the oldest child, its hard to lead withoht example)that was awesome. So the youth group, not the people in it, the idea of it, its something I hold near and dear to my heart. I have also gained one youth member as a younger sibling. Though it would seem that she's my leader. Which she is. But I'm still protective of all of them. I never once haf a youth pastor...an actual payroll youth pastor...throughout... [ Continued ]

Updatitis by Tarot on July 16th, 2009, 1:16 pm
So, phpBB has been updated to a new version, and they're already working on the next. It's at times like this that it really sucks to have such a heavily modified version running on one's site. Pretty much everything has been fiddled with - from the database schema to styles, visuals, permissions, and tons of other components. Some stuff (portal, help desk) I coded from scratch. One would hope this software had plugins that could be put in a folder and swapped in as needed. Ha ha ha. Naive. To "mod" phpBB means copying new files and manually editing code in others. Compared to products such as vBulletin, this approach is ugly and requires more familiarity with php (it IS called phpBB for a reason!) Of course, the upside is that phpBB is generally faster and slimmer than vBulletin (not to mention FREE! As in FREE BEER!), so I guess it's one of those "no free lunch" scenarios. Still, that means I can't just run their one-click update. Even though they have a smart update feature that's supposed to keep your custom code intact, you can never know what will break when you update, and where, until you stumble upon it. I think, for the time being, I will just manually install security updates and study the new features on a case by case basis. 3.0.5 didn't really add much, 3.0.6 will have Atom RSS feeds (though we could install a mod for that today) and more effective CAPTCHA (but our anti-spambot mod is doing a great job of keeping them away... we haven't had a single spambot since its installation). I guess this is just a part of the bigger problem of running a RPG site. It's got needs that are quite different from those of your average forum community. A help desk, easily accessible lore, quick account switch to let people play different characters, a plethora of bbcodes so players can express themselves artistically in their writing, and so on. If you come from another play-by-post, a lot of the features you may take for granted are not included in... [ Continued ]
