| Running from the inner gates is a stone path delving into the shadowed heart of Hai. The way is lit by braziers and polished bronze mirrors reflecting and throwing the light from the surface to one another. Expertly cut stones make the path, but time has loosened their once perfect arrangement. Guiding the traveler are signs carved on scavenged bits of wood. The first is at a path split in three. What brought you here? Myself _____________ Vayt ____________Others Each answer presides over its own path. The central path runs deep and downward without further fork or sign, delivering its walker to the Palace of Lepers. Those to the left and right have further windings and forks, but the questions are the same on either road. What will protect you here? Grace _____________ Power One way leads deeper on the first path you tread while the other deviates sharply. What fills your heart? Longing___________Wrath This is the last sign before the road is decided. Neither path looks safe, which has given the road its name, The Lesser of Evils. The left path guides its walker through the broken streets of Hai to what remains of the public baths, and the right path brings its walker to one final sign. Which is wiser? A Monster ____________ A Man The left path steers into the dark, away from the city to the apiary, while the right brings the walker to what was once the barracks of the city guard. |
