New to Miz, not to RP

Hey all, I'm new to Mizahar, but I've been roleplaying for some time now. You can call me by my PC's name, Cobalt, that's just fine with me, haha. I believe online roleplaying has actually helped me enjoy writing more, which along with gaming has become a big hobby of mine.

I've roleplayed for over 10 years now, starting off in html chat rooms back in the late 90's and early 2000's, and moving to forum based roleplays. I stopped for many years, before getting into Dungeons and Dragons with some friends. Problem was, they all only enjoy fighting and not roleplaying. So, after experimenting around on some Mush sites for a while, I decided to try my hand at the forum base again, and found Mizahar by searching for roleplaying sites and finding it as the number one rated site on a Top 50.

I'm into all styles of RP, honestly. From simple conversations to trading blows, from meeting new people to struggling for survival. I'm a very flexible writer, at least I believe, anyway, so hopefully I'll be easy to get along with. For some reason, I enjoy throwing my character into a bad experience, and have them endure struggles in order to succeed or escape.

Mizahar seems rather open ended, I really enjoy that. It's a little intimidating, though, I must admit. There's so many things to learn about, it almost feels like too much. It's a bit exciting, though, and I'm looking forward to getting into the swing of things here.

I'm kinda skimming (read as: fully analyzing) the Starting Guide and Starting Package pages to get started. Is there any other sources I should check out, such as how I should be expecting to write or set up my character sheet, some examples maybe? Thanks again, guys, I appreciate any help in advance!

Hey Cobalt! Welcome to Mizahar.

If you're reading the Starting Guide and Starting Package, then you're making a good start. Basically just follow links from there and keep reading until you have an idea of where you might want to play and what you might want your character to be. Everyone's pretty good about answering questions if you've already read the wiki for the idea in question, though few like to summarize what someone hasn't put the effort into reading. ;)

Take your time getting acclimated as there's a lot of information to absorb. You can also hop into chat from time to time and meet different people. Some of them are uh-oh crazy, but most of them are ha-ha crazy! The jury is still out on me.

Anyway, I must to bed, but feel free to PM me questions.

Take care,
-daniel-

Haha, no worries, I can certainly handle crazy. And thanks for the welcome! I figured what I was looking at should be enough, but I wanted to make sure.

I do have an open question to anyone, however. I'm looking through character sheets and seeing some nicely done ones, and want to do the same - however, I can't find any pictures of people that look like they could fit my character. I can always alter my appearance a little, but I want to add a visual to my CS, both for myself and for others. Are there any particular photo databases anyone uses for either models or art that fits the fantasy style theme of Mizahar? I'll take any and all suggestions to help get started on this.

Thanks again!

Hey, and welcome to Mizahar! :) I don't think anyone uses any photo databases in particular, but if Google isn't doing the trick for you, I'd recommend Deviantart, there's lots of cool models and photography stuff over there.

I've been RPing so long that I have accumulated a mess of possible future character pictures, whether actors, models, athletes, or whatever. If you have an idea of what your character's to look like, you might catch me when I'm not too busy and I can send you options.

Ugh, how could I forget Deviantart...? So ashamed in myself... Heh, thanks, I'm just not all here today, I suppose.

And thanks, Tabarnac, for all the help. I'll shoot you a PM, just get back whenever you have the time, no rush.
