If the fourth mark of a gnosis has no one designated, or it is simply stated that the previous Champion died, does that mean the spot is "up for grabs" by PCs, or are fourth marks strictly off limit for a PC?

The Fourth Mark

PCs can earn four marks from The Gods and Goddesses, yes. After mark two, however, they can only earn mark three and four from one god/dess (the same one) after that. Three marks is a stamp of ownership. Just because a Deity doesn't have a champion, also, doesn't mean they are looking for one. Some, by their very nature, are too independent for that. Some have hidden champions that aren't known as champions.

Earning four marks, however, is going to be a long drawn out process for any PC.
