Read... as much lore as you can.. along with the Starting Package page, Skill Guide, and Starting Guide. Then, basically read about the cities, the peoples, and the groups.. once you know more about what sort of PC you'd like, then you can ask some informed questions and get someone to 'show you the ropes'. It's not really fair to ask everyone to tell you how to play the game when that would take hours! It's something everyone has discovered through reading - you can do it too!

I think that Goss has covered much of everything, reading the Starters Guide is very improtant. So i would read that first. Um, then i would read everything else i could get my hands on?
It took me awhile to get started, and i think i have read everything there is to know about the Symenestra and Kalinor. (Not really, i've just read it a million times.) I personally read the Starters Guide and Starting Package three times before i even started on my Character Sheet.
I know i've really just repeated information, but i hope that it helps. c:
If you need anything you can ask anyone, Mizahar is a very kind and nice site. Don't really worry about making mistakes at first, believe me i made them, because the Storytellers/Moderaters/Admin are all kind and will notify you through PM very nicely. I was personally suprised by their kindness. c:
