When the Dreamscapes forum officially opened, I was slightly confused. Dreams? No XP? What good could come of this? After reading a few threads, the notion of roleplaying out a dream began to appeal more and more to me. That desire stemmed primarily from this month's featured thread, Portents.

Dreams defy reality and logic, but that does not stop them from drawing meaning from both. Siiri dreams of her home so far away, yet it is always with her in her mind. What awaits her within her own creation is a scene of horror that chills to the bone, played out as if a broken record skipping and repeating it's notes. Dizzying and terrifying, the harshness of her nightmare is further heightened by the onset of a truth that she has never known, or perhaps always wanted to forget. Somewhere in her mind, a truth lingers awaiting discovery.
This thread is quick, hard, and brutal. It shows one of Mizahar's toughest trapped in a prison of her own making, all but helpless in the midst of an unspeakable horror. This sort of event is amazing in a role play, opening up avenues previously unexplored for future stories, plots, and interactions. This is what appeals to me now about the Dreamscapes forum, because after reading this I wonder what my PCs would dream about, and what would they fear? Could a dream trigger a story, like a pebble thrown into a pond with it's ripples growing into tidal waves?
Take a look at Portents, suffer with Siiri through this nightmare, and then ask yourself that question. You will be intrigued, I guarantee it.
