Physical Description

Raine is quite short only standing at an even 5’5” and weighs 156 Ibs, according to herself she has a few too many curves. She’s of solid build and has rounded features with grey almond shaped eyes set in a round lively face with high cheekbones. The tip of her nose curves up slightly adding to her open and cheerful look. She is strong and capable of working hard but also has delicate quite thin fingers perfect to play a flute with. She has naturally tan skin that is kept that way by the sun and she has dimples that show when she smile, which is almost always.

Her hair has only been cut once and it now reaches past her hips, Raine’s hair is a rich chocolate brown with copper red streaks, it usually falls straight down but in wet weather it curls slightly especially around her face. Her hair is filled with small braids, painted wooden beads and wisps of hair secured with twinned mane hair from her Cyphrus Strider.

She has a small scar on the tip of her right middle finger and a long scar stretching diagonally over her left calf and Raine’s windmarks cover the left side of her stomach and chest and continue down her left arm stopping by her elbow.

Character Concept

Raine is rather quiet according to the standards of the Drykas, she is a hard worker, doing her shores quickly and efficiently and always with a smile. She’s a very passionate woman and fiercely protective of those close to her and will avenge any mistreatment, Raine tends to treat any harm directed at her family and friends more severely than if she herself is maltreated.
She is loyal, kind and open minded, but also slow to trust new people, stubborn and sometimes not too eager to show her feelings. Raine cares much for others, so much that she neglects herself, she always puts others before herself.
To Raine it doesn’t matter what race a person belongs to or what they do, if she deems them worthy and start to trust them then she would do anything for them.

Her people’s laws are extremely important to Raine and she would never break one of the 7 laws and she disapproves of murder, stealing and betrayal. She would never challenge the Ankal of her pavilion.

Character History

Raine belongs to the Drykas pavilion Swifthooves of the Amethyst Clan though she originally hails from the pavilion Braidedmane of the Ruby clan.

She was born on a rainy night, hence her parents naming her Raine, in Endrykas to the Braidedmane Pavilion, as a member of the Ruby clan she was trained in glyphing, crafting clay pottery and weaving from an early age. Raine’s childhood was as normal as it could be on the Sea of Grass and her pavilion followed the moving city Endrykas along the Run. It was when she was weaving as a ten year old that she made a mistake and cut up her right middle finger, the wound healed but left a scar on the finger tip.

She had a natural talent for making pottery and while she practiced glyphing it was on clay she focused her main effort on. Raine became one of the best pottery crafters among those close to her own age and while she was fascinated by and revered the Cyphrus Striders she wasn’t too bothered by not having a Strider of her own, even if that meant that she had no windmarks.

When she turned 17 she was a very talented crafter and made very beautiful and sturdy pottery it was then that a young man named Skyler visited Endrykas to trade some of his pavilions Striders. She fell for him and not long after their meeting they were betrothed and married after a few months.

Raine moved with him to his pavilion in the Amethyst Clan and took his last name, his pavilion followed roughly the same route as Endrykas but far slower than the city, often staying a few days in the same spot before moving on.

It was in her husbands pavilion she really understood the Striders and she worked hard to be as good with them as the Amethyst clan people were. It was also here she met a young dun stallion, barely a yearling even, he was not yet named and had chosen no rider.

Raine helped care for him and when he’d reached almost two years of age the stallion chose Raine as his rider and she named him Bolero. Now was also the time when Raine received her windmarks, they stretched between her left hip and arm pit and also extended onto her left arm ending at her elbow.

So as Bolero grew older Raine was trained by Skyler or her one of her new family members how to manage the Striders, how to care for them, how to treat the equipment, the basics of riding and how to handle archery from a Striders back. So when Bolero reached the age were he could be ridden Raine was given her own yvas as a gift from her husband.

Now Raine had turned 20 and it was now her relatively peaceful and normal life turned upside down. Her husband Skyler followed a group out to hunt and he never returned, he and his Strider were killed by a glassbeak that had surprised the group.

Raine though devastated by sorrow gathered herself quickly on the outside at least and instead of returning to her birth family she gained permission from the Swifthooves Ankal to stay in their clan and prove herself a true horsewoman.
