They all have one thing in common: They needed protection. The Kelvic bond is not so sacred to all, and used in Kaniel's case as a binding contract rather than a bonding of love and respect. |
Name: Janna Age: 63 Met at: Age 2
Kaniel met Janna outside of Ravok. She was traveling back home to Denval after taking care of issues of family regarding her daughter and her husband. A merchant's wife, Janna had her cart and horse when she found a naked, bloodied Kaniel by the side of the road. It was the first time in years that he had taken human form, and Janna was unaware that he was a Kelvic. She gathered him up and nursed him back to health on the journey home.
A tentative relationship formed between the two. More than once, Janna came across trouble. Since she was an elderly woman traveling alone, she posed an easy target. It was during the first attack in which a group of men tried to relieve Janna of her horse and cart that Kaniel shifted and attacked in the woman's defense. Instead being scared by this sudden turn of events, Janna welcomed Kaniel back with open arms. The bond formed between the two when Janna officially accepted Kaniel as her guide and protector.
Kaniel, who had never entered into a bonding before, was shocked by the drive he felt to do whatever Janna needed or wanted of him. This continued until they arrived back in Denval. Back home and in the security of her husbands arms, Janna told Kaniel she had no more use of him, though she appreciated the time they had spent together.
And just like that, Kaniel was sent away. It took a while for the bond to actually break between them, but he was never quite the same after that.

Name: Laura Age: 26 Time Lapsed: Three months since Janna
Laura was a resident of denial, the daughter of a fisherman. Kaniel had taken to the woods after his bond with Janna disintegrated, but he now felt the pull familiar to all Kelvics, the one that drove them find a bond.
She was alone on the shore, sorting through the catch that he father had brought home and hauled from the boat. The coyote that attacked was either half mad from hunger or rabid, but either way it took the young woman completely by surprise. Unwilling to put herself into foolish danger, but also unwilling to let her families only source of income be so easily stolen, Laura tried to make a stand against the crazed animal.
Hungry himself, having gotten used to the easy meals with Janna cause him to lose the edge on his hunting skills. That, along with the lack of any kind of Pack, had drawn Kaniel towards the overpowering stench of the fish. However, when he saw the woman under attack all thoughts of food was driven from his mind. The fight was short and surprisingly bloodless. The appearance of a snarling gray wolf by the woman's side sent the coyote running almost immediately.
Before Laura could turn on him as well, Kaniel shifted and placated her. Again, the bond was formed, though it took a few weeks of the wolf constantly shadowing the woman, her silent protector throughout the day.
Their bond lasted longer than his with Janna, almost half a year. However, this time Kaniel was a bit better prepared. Instead of entering into the bond expecting to be kept around forever, he knew that he would only be needed until Laura was married. Though the bond had been formed with those conditions in mind, Kaniel still found it hard to just walk away. Laura had to send him from her new house with her husband, asking him not to come back.

Name:Layika Age: 18 Time Lapsed: 6 months since Laura
Though their bond had been broken, Kaniel found it hard to stay in Denval. By then he had his reputation as a bodyguard and protector, but the people had also become too familiar for his liking. They knew that he was a Kelvic man, and though he preferred to stay in his natural form it made it hard to converse with the humans who sought him out. Realizing that his new way of living was making him increasingly uncomfortable, Kaniel fled the fishing village and disappeared into the woods. Where he was going to go, even he did not know.
Though the very nature of his being drove him towards these bonds with humans and their guidance, Kaniel sorely missed being part of a pack. He missed the hunt and the companionship of those just like him. So he made his way north west through the woods avoiding any kind of road or sign of human habitation, just looking for a place to belong.
Kaniel's intentions were pure, and he had been on the scent of a medium sized pack, a couple of their females were in heat, when he found yet another woman in needs of his protections.
Her name was Laykia. She was a young half-breed whose parentage Kaniel couldn't pinpoint. When he found her, she was being waylaid by the same pack that he had been stalking. It was a clear and distinct choice given to him by the gods. He had to choose between what he wanted and what he created to be (though Kaniel knew nothing of other kelvics, understanding only that he had a desire deep within him that screamed and gnawed until he gave into it.)
Of course, his choice was made when he flew into the fray, snarling and snapping at the besieged girls side. It was pure chance that the snarls and barks of the wolves startled a flock of deer nearby, sending them into flight. Immediately noticing an easier fight and kill, the wolf pack dissolved into the shadows, leaving Kaniel and the young woman alone.
This bond lasted only until the pair reached Avanthal, where Laykia sought her half-brothers protection. Needless to say, Kaniel was cast away once again.

Name: Rhonda Age: 56 Time Lapsed: Three weeks since Laykia, present.
Skulking on the edge of the snowy city, Kaniel was out of his element. Having spent a good portion of his three years in warmer climates, he was finding it hard to cope with his lighter coat. He had not stored up the fat and fur necessary to survive such harsh weather.
Uncomfortable as it made him, Kaniel was forced to enter into the city. At first, nothing and no one bothered him, but eventually the presence of a wolf stalking the snowy streets began to cause distress. Adding onto the discomfort he already felt, Kaniel had no choice but to change shape. The downfall: Naked, in the middle of a crowded street.
Luckily for him, Rhonda had been watching the whole ordeal. Her lover had been a Kelvic wolf as well, though Arctic of species, she had recognized Kaniel for what he was almost immediately. Taking him away from prying eyes, Rhonda welcomed Kaniel into her home.
Their bond is currently still intact, Rhonda wishing to keep Kaniel around not only for protection but because he reminds her of a love lost.
