The Fruit Stands The fruits and vegetables of Falyndar are quite different from what you might find elsewhere in Mizahar. They’re bright, often gigantic, and usually dangerous – armed with spines or poison or pests that like to protect them, making harvesting difficult and dangerous. But those that are poisonous present no difficulty to the Myrians – they are used to the flora of their homeland, and their bodies have adapted to the poison, leaving them with some very, very tasty fruits that would kill others should they eat them. Some Myrians, however, found a liking for some of the ‘tamer’ vegetation that Caiyha has to offer, like apples, oranges, and lemons. These were imported into the jungle by traders, and the Myrians set about figuring out how to grow them. Decades of patience and trial and error paid off, and they figured out how to adapt things to their jungle climate. The end result, of course, was massive varieties of fruits and vegetables, all of which was now home-grown. Interspersed throughout the food area of the Trading Square are a number of stalls of Myrians selling fruit, either gathered or home-grown. Many stalls are stacked high with baskets and pots and wagons of fruit of every size, shape, and color imaginable. CherimoyhaA sweet, soft fruit that is sometimes called a custard apple. DragonfruitScary to look at, but sour and extremely refreshing. Blackberries Casaba MelonA slightly bland melon with white flesh, it is very juicy and great with the right spices. Coconut Hyacinth NutsEven though they're called nuts, these blue fruits have a thick, juicy flesh. The nut inside can also be eaten. Blueberries CherapuVery tasty, sweet orange-skinned fruit. DuriansThorn-covered, massive, with an overpowering odour, but have savory flesh. Juvia NutsLarge, crescent-shaped nuts. Difficult to get, but very filling. Honeydew Melon ChokeberriesSmall red berries that can be eaten raw or used for wines and juices. GoldenberryA bold, yellow berry that is surprisingly tart when ripe, but mellows if allowed to age. KamagongA malodorous fruit with a wonderful taste and texture. The skin is toxic. Oranges Falyndarian BittermelonA long, sour-tasting melon, found deep in Falyndar. GranadillaAn aromatic fruit where the seeds are the edible part. MoonblossomA delicate white fruit that only blooms at night, it is a favourite during the Moon Festival of the Fall. JackalfruitMassive fruit with a slightly sweet flesh. Very starchy, good for energy. Popular. KalmiaThe sour variety of the balimbing, its skin is red. Lemons Kiwi Mangoes LycheeA small, sweet red fruit with white flesh. Muskmelon MangosteanA mild, unique-looking fruit with a caramel-like taste. PapawCreamy texture and flavour. Papaya PassionfruitCommonly juiced, mildly poisonous, a Myrian favourite. PappagallosNicknamed speckled eggs, they're a juicy, sour fruit. Pineapple Pomegranate PlantainsA heavy, starchy fruit best eaten cooked, if overripe, eaten raw. Similar to bananas. RambutanA red, 'hairy' mid-sized fruit. Overwhelmingly sweet, often used for juicing. Prickly Pear SnakefruitA poisonous favourite of the Dhani, sweet, and very nice when roasted. QallosResembling cherries, these little fruits are quite tart and poisonous. Few outsiders ever suspect the Qallos as being different from cherries, and meet a very nasty death. Spined PeachesSimilar to a normal peach, spined peaches are much larger, just as sweet, and are protected with a number of spikes that need to be broken off before eating.
