Character Journals

Postby Syfec Morbus on August 12th, 2009, 2:55 am

I, personally, think that there should be a separate, Semi-IC forum for our characters to write in their journals. It would probably be best situated in the Character Resources Forum, but whatever is cool.

Also, I was wondering if asking for Writing exp for writing in a journal would be alright? I think its a perfect opportunity for a character to practice their writing. Maybe having a cap on how you can advance through just writing in a journal would be fitting. In the vein of: No body becomes an eloquent writer from just writing in a journal. Or maybe they do?! I don't know. Main thing is the forum.

Thoughts?

I think they should be kept in the sheets if people want to do them or not, they could write in game and post that to the CS and so on to keep it IC and get writing points for it if they wish.

But then a Character Sheet would get quite long. I would rather have a whole topic that I can make look like a journal. We can still write it IC and collect it somewhere else, but I still think it would be better to have it's own forum.

I think there's room for a Character Journal subforum next to the Character Sheets. We can note clearly that its IC. Anyone else have any opinions or ideas on this?

I think that an IC blog/ journal is an interesting thing in theory. I'm fairly sure that they would prove to be technically awkward because threads don't always progress in a linear time line, which is what you need for a journal. Unless you copy/ paste to re-order you'd almost be sure to end up needing somewhere to write IC and then somewhere else to post the finished journal as the characters timeline unravelled.

I think its a good way to develop character notes. Did I not see somewhere a suggestion that the blogging system was to be IC?

Well, I guess it's possible to write a little mod that allowed you to reorder posts in your own threads in the journal forum... it can't be harder to code than the help desk was! I could try my hand at that once I've cleared the more urgent items on my list. :)

A problem with using blogs for IC purposes is that they are outside the forum's search function (as the wiki is). Adding google search to the site could help, but as of right now blogs have to be searched separately.
Tarot's thread tickets: sold out. Not accepting any more threads for the time being unless I promised you one. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Well, rather than use the blogs, I think they were simply wanting a forum for this - which in inside the search function. I'll go ahead and open a forum for this - I think it would be great to have a place for a pc to write in a journal or keep notes (I know I'd use it)... and then if Tarot wants to write a script for organizing it later, that'd be great. I know IC time is all over since we have four months a season to play with, so that would be extremely helpful.
