Physical Description

"Let's start with the overall picture, what you can see."

Image

This one, to be specific. See what I did there?

Roah is, by most accounts, a pleasant young man to set your eyes upon. He stands taller than most of his race, reaching somewhere over six feet and this fact, combined with his broad shoulder and solid figure, makes for a strapping young lad indeed. Fair of hair, blue of eye and possessing strong, handsome features, the young man looks for all the world to be a dashing young knight that walked right out of some children's fairytale. Or, rather, he will be in a few years when he properly bulks out and matures into a proper man, as he appears even now to be a bit on the young side.

His hair is a sandy blond, made brighter through continued exposure to the sun, and generally kept at a medium length. The only real sign of proper attention paid to the mop atop his head is that it is consistently clean, though it tends towards the messy, unstyled end of things and often grows fairly long before he lops it off with whatever sharp implement is handy.

His skin is fair, and would be pale if not for the pleasant kiss of the sun's rays, instead possessing a light, golden hue to it, and is remarkably free of major scars and blemishes. His face is one best described as noble, with a strong jaw, well-defined cheekbones and a proud nose. Cerulean blue eyes and a full mouth round off the list of features, and combined, they present a comely face indeed, most especially when the young man smiles.

A tall man, Roah is fairly well proportioned, possessing long legs and narrow hips. Due to his routine training and exercise, he maintains a decent level of fitness, having built up some level of muscle due to his workouts and sessions with the sword. Though far from being a walking slab of muscle, he possesses more muscle than the average youth of his age, though his broad, tall frame does not make this readily apparent.

Character Concept

Roah is a young man, but one with strong morals and an iron will. Raised from a young age to treat others with respect and courtesy, he is polite, though he tends towards being affable and relaxed over formality. He believes in helping out those who deserve it, and will not hesitate to aid someone in need should he think it necessary. Having grown up around the Knights of Syliras, and with his elder brother having been one, he has absorbed a powerful sense of honour and justice, and while he is a fairly gentle young man, he will do what he must to ensure those who prey on the weak and cause harm to the innocent do not prevail.

He is fond of socialising, and will often seek out company if it is readily available, and he is not one to shy away from striking up conversation with a complete stranger over a tankard of ale. A fairly merry person, he believes in living life to the fullest while you still can, as it can end at any moment and you may as well stuff all the excitement and enjoyment into living as humanly possible. This isn't to say, however, that is a wild, party-going hedonist. He is as content relaxing out in the wilds and simply enjoying the simple things in life as he is the more energetic.

That isn't so say he's all rainbows and sunshine, however. Every man has his flaws, and Roah's perhaps most apparent one is his willful nature and stubbornness. While not unreasonable about it, he can be a bit on the difficult and mulish side when he wants to be, digging his heels in and fighting his corner until sense is (sometimes literally) beaten into his thick skull.

He can also be a bit quick to judge in certain situations, and errs on the naive side. His innate sense of justice and strong morals have yet to be properly tempered with the wisdom of age and experience, so he is fairly susceptible to being taken advantage of in that manner.

Character History

This history will not be an extensive one, so those of you with short attention spans may breathe a sigh of relief. Roah is a young man, and has lived what most would consider a fairly unremarkable life by Mizaharian standards, so I will keep this brief.

Roah was the second child born to a the Tartharions that lived in Mythrin Outpost, amidst the fields outside of the city of Syliras. Roah's parents were simple enough folk, though determined and skilled at their trade of farming and tending to the land. They loved each other dearly, and often expressed this love in the time-honoured, ageless fashion that healthy couples have always done, which resulted in Roah having a rather large number of siblings to grow up with. Suffice to say, he was never short for company, and his parents did not lack for hands to assist in tending to the fields.

The life of the farmer was not, naturally enough, for all of the children, and they aspired to bigger and better things. Some wished to be scholars, some merchants but the most remarkable of career choices was that of Jorrah. The eldest boy, and the firstborn of the Tartharion brood, Jorrah was the golden child of the entire family, whether the parents admitted to it or not. And who could blame them? Even Roah, who had the makings of a fine, strong and likeable young man paled when compared to the force of nature that was his older brother. Tall, charismatic and handsome, he was very popular even as a child and he was good at heart. Inspired by the Knights that protected his family and that of the other farmers at Mythrin, Jorrah aspired to grow up like them, to protect his beloved friends and city. He did very well, taking to the rigorous training and exacting life of a squire as a bird to the sky, and it seemed like no time at all until he earned his full Knighthood. To commemorate this, the entirety of the Tartharion household gathered together their funds and bought for Jorrah a splendid gift; An armband forged of gold, simple and elegant in design, with a sword motif, a symbolic representation of his success and chosen way of life. Though some younger brothers may have grown jealous of being eclipsed by their senior, Roah didn't seem to notice, never mind care, and the two of them got on very well. Whenever the two had spare time, they would meet and Jorrah would train Roah in the basics of what it was to be a Knight; combat skills, how to use a sword, the groundworks of tactics and behaviour. The fraternal love between them was strong, the brotherly bond a glorious one of loyalty and laughter.

Sadly, it is often the case that the fires that burn the brightest burn the quickest, and so it was that while on a patrol to the outer reaches of the Knight's jurisdiction, Jorrah's group was ambushed. Set upon by a ragtag band of desperate bandits and thieves, which would normally be a trifling force to deal with for such an elite group as the Knights, Jorrah had the misfortune to catch a stray arrow to the throat, fatally wounding him. Just like that, the shining star of the Tartharion family was extinguished, and his death shook them to their very foundations.

While all of them took the passing of Jorrah hard, the parents took it the worst of all. Roah's mother become distraught and depressed, fading to a shadow of her former, radiant self so wrapped up in her grief was she. His father, on the other hand, took his eldest child's death differently. He grew distant, withdrawing from the family in subtle but noticeable ways. No longer did he smile, or play with the younger children. When he spoke, it was in clipped, truncated phrases, and he seemed to lose all enjoyment from life. It fell to Roah to step up to the plate, as it were, and hold the family together. Becoming essentially a pillar of support for the grieving and shocked family, Roah took up most of the duties that would normally fall to his parents; Playing with the younger children, comforting his siblings in their distress and making sure the farm was kept in good condition. It is a testament to his determination and stubborn strength of will that throughout all of this he kept up a brave face, turning to no one for comfort, and maintaining his apprenticeship to a local blacksmith as well as his routine combat training.

Blessedly, he was not forever doomed to be the rock for his family to cling to in the storm of their grief. The turbulent time passed, and they all learned to cope with the loss of such a beloved member of their family, and go on with their lives. Even Roah's mother and father returned to something resembling their former selves, proclaiming that Jorrah would have wanted them to live life to it's fullest, while they still could. Roah in particular took this to heart, and while he loved living and working with his family where he was, he decided to honour his brother's memory and love for justice by setting out on his own and properly living life. He was eager to start, and with the earnings he head saved up from his apprenticeship and years helping on the family farm, he purchased the basics needed for venturing outside the comforting safety of Syliras, setting forth to see what he could learn from the world.

Gnosis and Religion

Roah is a fairly devout fellow, following a number of Divines that match up with his core values and the important facets of his life.

As a man who practices daily with his sword and who's chosen path in life will inevitably and forcibly draw him into violent conflict with all sorts of things, he rightly pays homage to the Goddess of War, Myri. Though the savagery of the Myrians is something that makes him a bit uneasy, he can understand that they do what they do out of necessity, and applies this same mentality to combat. Do what you must to succeed, or die. He tends to offer up a prayer to Her before any significant violent engagement.

He worships Wysar as he believes that discipline and conviction are absolutely necessary values to possess, not only in regards to training and combat, but in many things in life, including his smithing. He fully believes in following your goals to their conclusion, and doing your utmost to succeed.

As an aspiring blacksmith, Roah gives up prayers to Isur fairly frequently, honouring Him as the ultimate craftsman and a being to emulate and respect.

Having been exposed to the Knights of Syliras all his life, and having grown up with a family that raised him to be truthful and honourable, it is perhaps little surprise that Roah venerates Tyveth, the God of Honour and Truth. He is honest when he can be, sometimes to his detriment, though he will lie if the situation calls for it, something he finds distasteful. He strives to act with honour, and has been observed to act in a similar, albeit much more relaxed manner to the Knight of his home city.
