Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

"Grandsire! There's something wrong with your Imperial Watcher! He escaped and now his butt is stuck to another dog!"

A seventeen year old Akontak ran through the house, calling for his grandfather and sounding very scared. All the boy knew was that his granpa's pride and joy couldn't move freely and had escaped his kennel.

Muruk Onktaka hastened down the stairs at the news of an unplanned tie. He had plans for the expensive purebred dog and an accidental mating with a mutt was the last thing he needed right now. As usual, his undisciplined grandson yelled across the house with his little blue feet slapping along the tiles.

"Lower your voice and stop running like a horse Kadrath. You behave like an ignorant Kuvan!" He admonished in a quiet and serious tone. It was all well and good to have the status of an Akontak grandson, but what honor did he bring if he acted like nothing more than an unbridled savage?

"Yessir." He murmured, slowing his headlong run and speaking in quieter tones.

'Ass kisser!'

'Cerulist!'

"They're just a little bit east of his kennel, grandsire."

Muruk nodded to the scrawny boy and gestured for him to lead the way. The damage was done and running wouldn't undue the circumstance. Yellow eyes watched the skinny boy before him as they headed out the door to the kennels.

'All that sickness has made him far too thin and nervous. Is that normal for his kind? I hope so, because he is one scrawny, high-strung, undersized little thing.' The older Akalak shook his head at his own ruminations and before long they arrived at the scene of the crime. And crime it was to see the awkward stance of two dogs after a tie!

with his Imperial Watcher stud would most likely make some ugly puppies. They broke apart casually as if nothing had happened and the thickset elk dog slowly walked over to the man and boy. She didn't appear to have a collar or any identification and looked a bit on the thin, ragged side.

"Is she homeless grandsire? There's no collar or tattoo like Gazer has on him."

"It's possible Rath. Uruk, has your mother yet taught you how to check the female to see if she's sound?"

Shoving his lighter brother gladly out of the way, the boy's eyes turned bright green and he answered in a surprisingly low pitch for such a young boy,

"Yessir, she has."

"Actions tell over words boy."

The friendly female shoved a moist noise under Uruk's little blue hand and he took it as a good sign to proceed. He ran a smooth touch over her ears to check for unusual heat and tapped into a bit of Djed as he looked through a reddish haze. With the sure touch of a natural handler, he gently moved from checking her teeth, gums, eyes and head, all the way through to the pads of her feet. A headache reminded him to turn off the bit of extra sight before he spoke to his grandpa.

"Two light green marks in her stomach but otherwise she's healthy all over. She's a bit hungry though it seems."

Muruk smiled down at his namesake and answered,

"Sounds like she's got a couple pups in there and it wasn't their first tie. When they're stuck like that, it's because they just finished making pups and nature secures them together. Good job grandson. Looks like we'll find out what pups look like from an Imperial Watcher and a Falivan Elk Dog."

Green eyes were shoved into icy blue and Rath asked,

"Will they have a stronger prey drive like Elk dogs, or be more into the chase like Watchers?"

"It looks like we'll have a chance to find out, won't we? We should call her Serendipity, all things considered. I think we should turn this into a breeding lesson boys."

The young Akontak opened his mouth to speak and closed it quickly, opting to nod like grandsire instead. This small action was immediately condoned by Muruk and would become a common gesture for the rest of Kadrath's life. He rubbed a large, affectionate hand over the boys' close-cropped hair and they started seeing to both dogs' comfort.
