Physical Description
Lean and fit, Elias has a slender build with muscle enough to hold his own in a local brawl, though he is not nearly as developed as the more serious bare-fisted fighters. Piercing blue eyes peer out from beneath jet-black hair which he wears comparatively long, with a neatly trimmed beard to match. In Syliras, his attire is more professional in attempts to keep business afloat, but whilst traveling he strips down to the bare essentials.



Character Concept :
While most would perceive Elias as a pessimist, he generally views himself as the ultimate realist. Never prone to spouts of anger, Aldrich tends to find himself in less trouble over misunderstandings or fits of passion than most of his family, or even his race. Unfortunately, this 'realism' has broken his ability to appreciate the better things in life as well, cold to the joy that most around him are able to experience. What most call paranoia, Elias considers healthy cautiousness. Though he may consider many people suspect, he generally trusts his reasoning and own ability to get him out of a situation, permitting him to experience different things which people with his level of uncertainty usually cannot due to the anxiety that usually accompanies their fear. All of this is not to say that Aldrich is not prone to some emotional wear or consideration, as certain things such as his family or civic duty give him much cause to wonder about his involvement in different personal affairs. And of course, he was born with an overwhelming curiosity that prompts him into many different circumstances that someone of his nature would have otherwise steered clear of.


Character History :
In contrast to the usually traumatic or dark background of most living in Mizahar since the Valterrian, Elias Aldrich was fortunate enough to experience a fairly calm upbringing for the majority of his childhood. Son to a simple fletcher, Brayton Aldrich, and a passionate Drykas mother, Faye Brighteye Aldrich, and the youngest of three brothers, born and raised in Syliras, Elias knew no life for many years outside of a peaceful, family-focused existence. He and his brothers each took to their father's business at a young age, and Brayton was certain that it wouldn't be long before he could retire from the trade entirely to allow his sons to run the shop, himself taking on a supervisory role. Their mother had embedded into them an appreciation for wildlife, and as her sons began to put what they learned in the shop to use in the forest Faye saw to it that they were raised not only with the strictly human knowledge of the world, but also with the perspective of those, such as the Drykas, more in touch with the earth and its natural inhabitants.

Time went on, people changed, numbers grew. Brighteye, his mother's Firemane mare, became pregnant by the time Elias was in his late teens. The youngest Aldrich had always tended toward the Drykas mindset more than his elder brothers, but it showed most when Brighteye's beautiful colt was born, whom Elias named Sunsight after his first wobbly steps put his already flame colored mane in path of the few sun rays pushing through the overhanging clouds. Though any child of a human and human 'subrace' was deemed a full-blooded human in their culture, any one who witnessed Elias' behavior in the next few years would swear that the boy was a full-blooded Drykas if it weren't for his unmarked skin. Learning all the skills of a bowman from his father and the life of a rider from his mother, going into his early twenties Elias felt he was ready to leave Sylira to discover the rest of Mizahar with nothing but a bow and Sunsight. Gerard and Rhett, his brothers, understood this inclination and assured him that a spot at the shop would always be open to him as they prepared to take over their father's business. As much as Faye longed to go with him, to free herself of the tedium she had settled into, she too and perhaps more than any of them understood the necessity of independence on such a trek. His father was perhaps the most confused, but having married a Drykas he had become adjusted to this freer spirit than he was used to in his line of work. Thus, bidding his family adieu with promises to stop in regularly, Elias set on to see what his mother had raised him with stories of.

He wasn't long out of the region and into Cyphrus, however, before the clattering of hooves on earth enveloped him. People traveling in a group was not uncommon. What was, however, was the way they kept up with him, side-by-side for nearly a mile. Aldrich had prepared himself to encounter some of the more overtly dangerous races throughout Mizahar, so the presence of the band of humans around him didn't give him hesitation. Unfortunately, this poor judgement of character taught him a lesson in prudence, and robbed him of everything. No sooner had Elias begun to feel wary than the ropes appeared in their hands. Thieves were not uncommon along this path, and until that moment Elias hadn't been aware that he had anything on him worthy of stealing. As the men began to close in on either side of him and grab hold of Sunsight, however, he remembered his mother's story of how she had come by Brighteye - she was a pulling horse, used by nobles to haul their carriages and show off their officials. Faye saw something in Brighteye, though, something that called to the life the Drykas could give her. Now this band sought to pull in some profit, selling off the beautiful young horse into a life of saddle and bit subservience. The encounter soon turned deadly as Elias brought down the nearest rider to him with the dagger he had bought before setting out, urging another to pull him off of his mount and to the ground, which in turn provoked Sunsight to buck and kick at everything in sight. When all was said and done, Elias found himself being pulled to his feet and out of a heavy darkness by two familiar men, who he wouldn't even recognize until later as his brothers. At the moment, however, all he could see was the blood stained mane of his closest friend that lie still on the forest floor.

The weeks that followed were a decent indicator of the years to come. An outside may not have noticed the change, as Elias had always been the quite one. The icy disposition with which he now regarded life was however entirely different from the quiet thoughtfulness that had once hung about him, and it worried his family, particularly his brothers. It was for this reason that only a season after the incident, Gerard and Rhett went on a hunt - but not the kind their family had been led to believe it was. As such, when Gerard returned with a bloodied Rhett in his arms, no one thought to question what had happened. Clearly, a hunting trip gone wrong. Any of them knew the danger involved if even one mistake was made in the wrong neck of the woods. This "accident" left Rhett with only one arm, and the family anxious to see it heal at first before he died of blood loss, and after before it become infected. Through that time, the inner conflict Elias faced so soon after losing Sunsight brought Gerard to finally spilling to his younger brother what had actually happened and what had claimed their brother's arm. A stakeout in the Ruins of Nial gone wrong; a confrontation with Elias' muggers led to the end of the gang, but also the end of Rhett's ability to hunt, and likely his career.

"He gave up a lot to see you make something good out of what's happened. Don't waste it." With that, Gerard handed him Rhett's shortbow which would no longer be of any use to the middle brother. Elias had lost his own longbow in the struggle, and though he had never understood his brother's appreciation for the smaller weapon, he took it with a conviction to master it. With it came Rudd, a spunky mutt which Rhett made him promise to turn into a hunting dog. The years following he has dedicated to making something of the distrust and paranoia that had been amplified in Elias' mind.

Rudd
Rudd is a mixed-breed hunting dog who once belonged to Elias' older brother Rhett before he lost his arm and could no longer go hunting with him. At only 2 years old, Rudd still has quite a bit of training ahead of him - a perfect match for his master who spent much of his time in the shop rather than hunting, and as such finds his own skill growing with his companion's.
