| My eyes opened. Sunlight was barely visible in the sky, and the darkness of the night filled the sky like storm clouds. I was laying on the ground, wings wrapped around me to get warm. I unfolded them and stood up, watching as the last few remains of the sun disappeared into the horizon. I got up and walked out into the small clearing in front of my cave, checking to see what moon it was. The moon wasn't exactly in the middle of the sky, it was off to the side a little. But my daydreaming got interrupted as my stomach growled for meat. I answered it, and with a few flaps of my wings, and a puff of dust underneath me, I was flying high in the starry night. I flew around for a bit, scanning for any movements underneath me. After awhile I decided I had no luck and so flew just above the trees. Soon, just below me was something big and black. The first thing that came to mind was bear, but as I drew nearer, I saw it was stag. Deer. Meat. I flew faster and then landed in a clearing it would have to run through. Sure enough, it stumbled in mindlessly before having it ripped apart. I took a piece of it's meat, and sat down, chewing it carefully. Deer meat was always good, but bear was better. I took my fill, leaving the carcass with a huge hole in it. I was about to take off, I even opened up my wings. But some yelling and noises came from my right. How far away? It seemed pretty distant, so I decided to take a look. What could be... who could be making those noises? I wrapped my wings around me, hoping they would camouflage me in the dark. I proceeded with caution, going behind trees and into the shadows. I ended up behind a tree, peering in on a human camp. The humans had made a tent, and were sitting around a campfire drinking something brown out of a jug. I sniffed the air, and recognized the scent. It was this very nasty stuff. I once came across it when hunting. The humans set up their tent in the middle of a clearing surrounded by trees, and they didn't know it, but me too. I circled them, silently making my way to the other side to get a look. They continued to laugh and shout, but then the biggest one, a brown short-haired man, stood up. He mumbled something, but the only words I caught was "beasts" and "kill". I knew what he meant, the wildlands was a dangerous place. I had encountered before a very large, what do they call them? Dire- yes, a Dire Wolf that had almost wiped out my camp. The man that was standing finally spoke up, and was in a shout now. "My crew, we are out here today to practice our skills, and as a group we will be able to overcome anything. But our main duty is to hunt down Zith and bring their carcasses in for Mizas. Lots of them my friends." |
