Orryn

Race: Benshira
Age: 22
Birthday Season of Winter, Day 15, 489AV
Physical Description: Orryn stands at a height of 4' 9" and weighs roughly 155lbs. He wears short, unkempt, tussled hair of a color that varies between dark orange and mottled brown.

Character Concept

Orryn's small stature does not allow for a very intimidating presence. However, his physical appearance is not alone in this characteristic. He isn't downright hopeless but he's a bit more cynical than optimistic. To be honest, he's more confused than anything else.

Just about everything that had ever occurred in Orryn's lifetime became utterly pointless after Vrlok entered his life. For this reason, he has almost no experience from which to draw. He's not sure where he stands on fate and independence or justice and chaos. Certainly, he feels the need to rediscover (and perhaps recreate) exactly who he is as a Benshira.

Orryn is very dedicated and this description is not meant to overlook his stubbornness. He has always been fiercely self motivated. He is headstrong but not to the point of direct confrontation. Orryn's desire to avoid unnecessary confrontation often counteracts his personal stubbornness.

Beyond this, Orryn his only propelled forward by an powerful sense of guilt and the ever growing risk of losing his sanity. This is not to say that Orryn's tragedy had transformed him into a self-hating psychopath or a rambling mad-man. On the contrary, it forged a determined and resilient mind. The point remains, however, that Orryn's judgement and reasoning have been deeply shaken in the past few days.

More than any sense of "insanity," Orryn is simply caught in a great sea of confusion. While it is true that Orryn's heart is very determined, it is not quite sure what kind of task that it is determined to accomplish. Furthermore, if it had this knowledge, it certainly wouldn't know how it wants to go about achieving this goal.

Character History

Kalehm, the patriarch of Orryn's family forsook worship of Yahal for pursuits of logic and academic investigation in Zeltiva. Kalehm was able to find menial work at the university. Because of this, Kalehm was able to house his family within Zeltiva. Kalehm's duties, within the university, were seen as unimportant and he was regarded as a replaceable employee. When he did, in fact, lose his job, Kalehm could no longer support his family in the city of Zeltiva.

Stranded and alienated from his native homeland in Yahebah, Orryn's family was forced to relocate to Sunberth until other arrangements could be made. The Benshiras' presence was tolerated, within the lawless Human city, in a neighborhood full of various other races.

It was not long into their stay at this new home that things began to grow worse. The first player to arrive was a Myrian who referred to himself as Vrlok (Vrer~Lock) The Shifting Specter. He traveled with a small band of uninspired followers and seemed disruptive yet harmless at first. However, as the months wore on, disturbing things began to happen. It began with strange cries in the night. Neighbors that had seemed fully content and happy began going mad. After this, there were disappearances.

Finally, Vrlok's work became too expansive to cover up. Missing people raised questions. Clues became too large and too numerous to cover up. Vrlok's murders became apparent. He studied Hypnotism and was engaging in various experiments. Obviously, Vrlok had been using unwilling neighbors as test subjects.

The next group to show up was arguably more disruptive than Vrlok was. He was a human who made no small fact of his affiliation with the university. He spoke of Vrlok as if he had known about him months in advance. He spoke as if he was joyfully awaiting the day when Vrlock would make himself known.

He traveled with a Chaktawe and a Jamoura who seemed to completely devoid of any personal will. The Chaktawe, whom he called Raisz (Razhe,) seemed (to Orryn) to lack any personality other than a sense of entitlement and cockiness. The human called this Jamoura Szair and nothing seemed to be able to rouse Szair's emotion. He lacked any sense of personality or investment. Orryn also noticed that the Chaktawe had no guardian.

Raisz spent the next day or two laughing at Vrlok and challenging him. Raisz seemed to have the incredible compunction to insult everyone that had not traveled into Sunberth earlier that week. He insulted the "evil" mage and his cowardly behavior or preying on the innocent. Raisz, however, then would turn around and insult the "pitiful" citizens that he had planned to "rescue."

Szair, on the other hand, seemed completely disobedient to the human. The only thing that Szair seemed to care less about (than Vrlok) was his Chaktawe counterpart and this anonymous human. In fact, Szair was eventually cast out from the trio when it became clear that he would not bend to the human's will.

At the heart of the conflict was a prophecy which the human repeatedly announced. Vrlok, it seemed, was a source of evil which was dictated, a few years prior, within Zeltiva University. Either Raisz would defeat Vrlok, or Vrlok's evil would bring an end to everyone living in this particular slum section of Sunberth.

All of these swirling egos were too much for Orryn to handle. He refused to sit by and let this Chaktawe save Orryn's home. Orryn could not stomach the idea that he was some valueless observer to be rescued from a force that was alien at best.

When the great battle was set to take place, Orryn set out to destroy Vrlok before Raisz could get a chance. Orryn was not, at the moment, fooled into thinking he was a great warrior. He didn't even plan a method to defeat Vrlok. He only knew that Raisz's insults and boasting had angered him into impulsive action.

Orryn, unfortunately, was not able to find Vrlok on that morning. In fact, his meddling actions began a chain of events more terrible than he could possibly anticipate. While sneaking through the decrepit neighborhood, Orryn noticed Raisz presumably approaching the would-be battlefield. To get a better vantage point, Orryn leapt onto a crumbling and long abandoned building. Orryn could see, from across the alleyway, that this building was not stable. In his hastiness, however he disregarded his better judgement and jumped onto the roof.

The building immediately collapsed with a huge chunk of stone cascading downward. Orryn and the stone both plummeted to the earth. Raisz looked upward only too late. The stone came down and crushed Raisz, bringing him to an ungraceful and unheroic end. Orryn came too a few moments later and reality began to hit him.

He, however, refused to dwell on the death of an arrogant false-hero. Instead, he continued his search and Vrlok was left without his epic battle. Orryn knew that he did not stand a chance against the Hypnotism wizard. Instead, he was able to use subterfuge, stealth, disguise and persuasion to incite Vrlok's own followers to rise up against him. Although Vrlok was easily able to regain his [psychic] control of the drones, the chaos was enough for Orryn to take Vrlok by surprise and defeat him in battle.

The return home was not the glorious victory march that Orryn had expected. Instead of a procession of his grateful friends and family, Orryn was instead greeted by priests and priestesses of Dira. He could do nothing but watch as family, friends and neighbors died, without reason, all around him.

From the followers of Dira, Orryn was given no answers. He was helpless to do anything but watch. No one was spared from this reaping, even the human lie dead in the Sunberth street.

When the awestruck Orryn was the last one left, he expected, and even waited, to feel the life drain from him as well. This, however, never happened. Instead, the worshipers of Dira silently turned and left him alone and lost in Sunberth.

More importantly they left Orryn to live with a painful burden and a multitude of questions.

Liaison intervention

First of all: Welcome to Mizahar, I hope you'll enjoy your time here and RP to your delight. I'm Claymore and I'll be assisting you in creating a Character Sheet. I noticed a few mistakes and will help you to fix them .

Things to be fixed

Age
Either your birthdate or your age seems to be wrong. It's currently 512AV, which would make your PC 21 years old, not 22.

Please make the changes I've noted above, and send me a Private Message. Upon receiving your message, and reviewing your changes, I will remove the Intervention. Thank you for coming to Mizahar, and I hope you enjoy writing here.
