History
Arianne was born on the 28th of Fall, 491AV, to Geraldt and Maria Coulsan. The family lived together in Zeltiva, and they led a pleasant life. Geraldt worked as a simple laborer at the docks for a time, since it was the easiest way for him to provide for his family. When Arianne was 4 years of age, Geraldt took the family to Syliras for a short time, and while she remembers little of the trip, one image is burned into Ari’s memory. It is that of an archer, loosing an arrow from his bow. She has no idea why this simple thing is what she retains, but each time she remembers it, an inexplicable urge to have a go herself arises.
Upon the return to Zeltiva, Geraldt was employed by the Narvaen Stables. This significantly increased the quality of life for the little family. They moved from their home into the stable complex and Arianne became fascinated with the four-legged creatures. She would spend hours running around outside with the foals, careening through the fields till her father would jokingly threaten to shut her in a stable. In the evenings, she would sit with her mother while she told stories. Maria would often substitute the main character for a horse to keep her daughter happy, and all through the telling Arianne would be holding a wooden horse figurine that they had picked up in Syliras.
As she grew older, Arianne would study the horses properly. Still being at school, she had no time to work alongside her father, so instead she spent time just getting to know the animals. Eventually, Ari knew the name of every single horse at the stables, and she also understood their individual personalities. Sometimes, when people would come looking to purchase a horse, Arianne would be the first person they saw. She would often find two or three suitable horses before the stable owners were even spoken to. This led to Alaxal asking her to work for them when she left school, to which Ari excitedly agreed.
In the Spring of 508AV, Arianne’s mother Maria fell ill. Nobody knew what was wrong with her, despite countless examinations and tests. Maria weakened daily, and no amount of food, water or healing seemed to be able help. Eventually on the 34th of Spring she passed away. Geraldt was devastated. He and Maria had been together since childhood, and he simply could not cope with the loss. Arianne tried desperately to help him, but no amount of talking or comforting seemed to have any effect on her father. He was given a dog by Alaxal in the hope that some companionship would help. While the dog would occasionally make him smile it never lasted. It seemed that Geraldt would be stuck in mourning for a very long time.
Arianne herself was torn apart by the death of her mother, however after a time she learned to channel her grief into working harder. She imagined all of the things her mother had spoken of. Maria had always wanted Ari to enroll at the University one day, for as much as she loved horses, the young woman had a desire to learn things. Her time not spent working at the stables was spent in books, particularly ones on plants and culture.
Nowadays, Arianne still works for the Narvaen Stables but she is slowly saving to attend university. One day, she hopes to travel from Zeltiva to see the cultures she reads about first-hand.
