Pethos
Age:
13
Appearance:
Smaller then your average Wind Eagle, with beautiful sleek light blue and orange feathers. Razor Sharp claws and a strong orange beak distinguishable red eye patches.
Physical Attributes:
Although having a size and strength disadvantage, Pethos has a great speed advantage over average Wind Eagles.
Mentality:
Pethos has always been strong minded and although he was pushed around by the other fledglings he has always remained confident and determined towards his tasks. Pethos has always been a bit of an outcast within the colony and when he was presented with some yasi who were to try bond with him he had a hard time connecting with any of them. Until he met Kalion, there was something about his personality that made it easy to get along with him. Although the other yasi were present and trying to grab Pethos's attention they had a hard time managing to sustain a conversation more then Kalion and Pethos did so easily. Pethos was first introduced to Kalion when he was 13 and Pethos was 7 and it took close to 2 years for them to figure out they meant to be linked together. As time went on they have created an extremely strong bond, constantly joking with each other, mainly at each others expense. They had attuned to each others way of hunting using combined efforts to make hunting as easy as possible.
Bonding:
Ever since he had found out about his father being an Endal, Kalion was taken with them. He and his friend Valros would spend their free time pestering any Endal that would tell them stories of their time spent in the air on their Wind Eagles, or how they managed to bond with their Eagles. Kalion was constantly striving to learn as much as he could about Endal, anything that would help him, give him a chance to be assigned to the Aeries, a chance to have that rare priveledge of bonding with a Wing Eagle. Every waking moment was spent often seeking out bendi's which would let him go out with the road crews so they could go exploring. Obviously this was spent hunting and bettering himself with archery by hunting game, rather then clearing the snow he should be. The only reason he got away with this was because he presented what he had killed as a gift to get on the good graces of the road crew so they more then often kept their silence.
Kalion had just awoken from the recurring dream he kept having, he was soaring high above the mountain peaks, nose diving towards the tree line, the cold fresh wind whippign back his air as he hurtled towards the ground, bow at the ready with his eyes focused on a deer darting this way and that through the trees, just as he was about to fire he would awake from this dream. Fustrated he sat up and yet out a long yawn, he steadily stood and shoved on his clothes and rushed out the door. As always he was early meeting with Duvin Kakiv the Youthmaster.
"Hello Duvin, Any chance I can head out with the road crews today?" "Ahh, Kalion, Good morning, Come here I would like to have a word with you." Oh boy, I bet they told Duvin that I wasn't clearing the snow last time me and Valros went out with them. "Ok sir, Not in trouble am I?" Kalion said with a huge smirk across his face. "Suprisingly no, not this time, I have infact been thinking it is time you headed upto the Aerie, I have been following your interest in the Endal, and to be honest I am impressed with the dedication and interest you have shown."
Kalion was sure he had heard wrong, but as he stood there with his jaw wide open, he noticed the smile Duvin now had across his face. Kalion let out a huge cheer and a few passers by turned to see the fuss.
"Alright! You won't be dissapointed sir, Which fledgling will I try to be bonding with?" "A small Wind Eagle by the name of Pethos, now don't be discouraged by his size when you meet him, he may be small, but he is fast, cunning and very intelligent." "Just having this chance is amazing regardless of the Wind Eagle I will be meeting, Thanks again sir!" "Just don't let me down now Kalion, remember you will be living up in the Aeries for now, it will be best for you to take your bed roll and whatever supplies you need, if all goes well you will be flying out with Pethos very soon, also take note you will be competing for Pethos with two other Yasi, get going now!"
Kalion shouted his farewell as he bounded off in excitement, his chance had finally come, there was no way he would let Pethos choose any of the other Yasi over him. He charged into his mothers house, through to his room and frantically grabbed whatever was in arms reach, He hurridley packed up supplies and ran into his mother who had walked through to see what was happening. After a quick explanation of his situation his mother was overjoyed and took him through to her room, she pushed some drawers out of the way and presented Kailon with an Shortbow and a few arrows, she explained that this was left behind when Kailon's father had left her. He quickly thanked her and quite rudely rushed off in his excitement. Out of breath he came to a halting stop outside The Eagles Aerie, what a sight, he wandered around and fortunately it didn't take long to find where Pethos was located. He cautiously walked into the Aerie, Aww no they got here before me thought Kalion as he noticed both of the Yasi sat in the corner suspiciously eyeing Kalion up as he entered the room. Slowly turning his head towards the Wind Eagle, suddenly Kalion became nervous and this was unusual, Kalion had never been one to get nervous, but this was big, something he had wanted for as long as he could remember. As Pethos came into view Kalion was awestruck.
Such a beautiful eagle. "Why, Thankyou." Huh? What was that? Kalion was looking around at the Yasi sat in the corner. "Did you say something?" he addressed the other two Yasi.
Both of them shook their head and hinted towards the Eagle.
"No silly, It is me." Pethos gave a little squak to make it clear. "Ofcourse! Endal told me of this, you talk to me telepathically." "Yes this is true, so are you going to introduce yourself or are you going to akwardly sit in the corner like these two over there?" "Forgive me, sorry, Yes I am Kalion. I'm just so shocked, this is something I have dreamed of most of my life." "As it is with most Yasi I am told, Pleased to meet you Kailon." With that Pethos looked up, and with the slightest of pushes shot up out of the aerie.
Kailon still overcome by the amazement of how his day was going slowly unpacked in the opposite corner to the other Yasi, only just remembering they were still in the room.
Months had passed and tensions were high between Kalion and his competitors, this was down the the fact that whilst the other Yasi were liked by Pethos, they were certain that when Pethos decided to choose between them, Kalion would be the one without a doubt. It was easy to tell that he was the favoured one among the three with Pethos, they spent alot of time conversing alone, and Kalion was the first Pethos let ride him and by far the most skilled in the air. The two Yasi were getting desperate and began forming plans to get rid of Kailon, Pethos suspected this, he often saw them plotting alone. A part of Kailon also knew they were becoming desperate but he chose not to aknowledge this, he knew that if they failed to bond with Pethos they would be recast as more then likely Dek or Chiet at best. Kailon had a big heart and he did not want to take action against the conspiring Yasi, besides he knew they wanted this as bad as him, they had never hurt him and he had no reason to fight them. Kailon always agreed with giving people second chances, he always tried to see the best in people and sometimes this get him into sticky situations.
Kailon had just returned hunting with Pethos, although Pethos didn't like to admit it, Kailon was picking up archery fast and even learning to hit targets whilst moving at high speeds. Kailon stroke the top of Pethos's Beak and bid him goodnight. As he began to settle in and he became dreary, he heard something stir, thinking nothing of it he tried to return to sleep. Suddenly he felt something jab him in the side of the rib, with faster reactions then he knew he had Kailon rolled fast and tried to find his feet, he managed to find his footing and looked towards where he rolled from to find the larger of the two yasi standing up after what Kailon presumed had been an attack on him.
"I'm sorry Kailon but we have to get rid of you, I can't fail I won't risk becoming a Dek!" "Please, Don't do this, I don't want to hurt you, I'll give you this chance to go back to your corner and we can talk about this tomorrow."
As soon as Kailon finished his sentence something alerted him, the Yasi had said "We", quickly Kailon searched the area, he couldn't see the smaller one of the Yasi. Kailon started to get worried, without his knowledge Pethos was silently watching the commotion from the shadows.
"Kailon! Behind you, the coward is attacking you from behind." Warned Pethos.
Kailon spun around to find a fist comimg right at his face, thankfully for Kailon he had this speed advantage, being smaller then them both he was faster and more agile. The fist of the smaller Yasi barely missed Kailon clipping his ear as it passed his face. He didn't have time to dwell on it, he took his right leg and sweeped the feet of the smaller yasi from under him. The small yasi went down to the ground. Pain had erupted on his left shoulder blade as he realised the bigger yasi had connected a punch whilst he was occupied. Kailon rolled to the side to gain some distance between the two attackers, he gained some composure and focused, he glanced towards his bed roll, his bow! Just one problem, Kailon had to get past the bigger yasi, catching them off guard Kailon sprinted forward tackling the bigger yasi to the ground, as soon as he felt him land Kailon had moved as fast as possible towards the bed roll before the bigger yasi could get a grip on him. In a swift motion he grabbed his bow, one arrow, pulled the string taught just in time for the smaller yasi to come to a halt right infront of the arrow tip. He slowly backed off and helped the bigger yasi up. Kailon herded them towards the entrance of the Aerie. Pethos stood up, acknowledging Kailon had the fight won gave off a loud screech, if the other two yasi even had thoughts of attacking again they had certainly gone now, they backed towards the door opened it and ran off into the night.
Kailon lowered his bow, shut the door and caught his breath. He still had adrenaline pumping through his body. He turned towards Pethos.
"Thanks, That could of ended badly." "Attacking from behind is a cowardly thing, I cannot tolerate that." Pethos knew this was just an excuse, he had always favoured Kailon, he did not need to be impressed by his combat, Kailon had won Pethos over with his caring nature, big heart and fantastic humour.
It was as good as set in stone, they knew they were to bond with each other, ofcourse Wind Eagles are very patient creatures and Pethos was in no rush. Now Pethos only had one Yasi for company, they spent every possible minute in the air, learning from each other. Over a year and a half had passed since Kailon met Pathos and neither was unsure when it happened but they have been linked for months, they felt this and the bond grew stronger and stronger over time, they became inseperable. |
