Basic Information

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Born: 21 Spring, 489AV

Age: 23

Known Alias: Lilith

Employment: Thief

Appearance

Image
What one might observe when they first lay eyes on Ariadne is her natural beauty: almond-shaped hazel eyes that sparkle most often with warmth and invitation and soft brown hair with gentle tones of deep red. Her face gives the impression of purity and vulnerability while her body breathes sensuality and grace. Her bone structure is small and delicate; making her petite in stature as she stands at only 5”3 and 120lbs.

One will find that their gaze is drawn to Ariadne inexplicably, her very presence magnetic. Although beautiful, her appearance is not solely what draws the eyes of many to her, but rather the confidence and elegance she radiates in equal parts. She effortlessly combines an alluring innocence with sexuality and a promise to fulfill one’s every fantasy. Ariadne appeals to the sense: a vision of resplendent grace and beauty for the sight, a tantalizing scent faintly caught on a breeze for smell, and a strong urge to touch her, to taste every inch of her.

Ariadne works extensively at projecting this, with years of trial and error as she worked her thievery. Her sex appeal is what draws her victims in, all an elaborate trap to bring them to her, willingly and ensures they are more distracted then usually.

History

Image
Ariadne grew up in an impoverished home, her father Korris an Ebonstryfe failure. Her mother had died giving birth to her, and for as long as she could remember Ariadne’s existence seemed to have been an unfair trade to Korris. He would have rather had her mother alive and whole than Ariadne, a point he would vocalize often, and he would frequently inform her of her worthlessness and undesired presence. At a young age Ariadne internalized the tragedy of her mother’s passing, and believed whole heartedly that her life would have been both vastly different and inconceivably better had she lived.

Instead, Ariadne and her older brother Graeve lived under the iron fist and abusive tendencies of their father. Graeve was only a few years older than her, but he had a hard time coping with their mother’s death. Korris made no attempt to conceal his disappointment and resentment in Ariadne, and Graeve – needing direction with his grief – joined his father in assigning blame to Ariadne. Graeve held her accountable, at first regarding their mother’s passing, but eventually it came to encompass everything that went wrong in his life. Ariadne was frequently the scapegoat for their frustrations and tempers, and received the brunt end of their rages, although Graeve’s temperaments and abuses were a child’s anger, and thus contained a child’s reasoning.

Of course Graeve like-wise had to suffer Korris’ black rages. Eventually, as the years passed the young man’s anger and hate shifted to Korris with an intensity Ariadne never endured. But even as he came to hate the man, Graeve unwittingly became a reflection of him with each passing day, slowly losing the battle to separate himself from the father he despised. While Graeve was in his adolescence they would often argue violently, their disagreements coming to blows more often than not. Korris knew he was losing control of his son, and it enraged him to no end.

In the summer of 505AV, Graeve killed his father while Korris slept, his own black rage fueled by years of abuse and drugs. After he sobered her brother became fearful and woke Ariadne up to help hide their father’s body. Seeing the man she had feared her entire life brutally savaged, his night clothing soiled and bloodied, should have brought at the very least satisfaction to Ariadne. It did not, and the truth is she has yet to come to terms with how her father’s death affected her. She complied, mostly for fear of her own life now, as Graeve had proven him capable of murder. Shortly after their father’s death, Graeve left their sad, broken home with all the remaining mizas, leaving Ariadne abandoned, alone, jobless and without means to purchase food.

Ariadne, now desperate for basic necessities, began working as a street performer – a dancer. She started to notice how easily she could attract male attention, and how they became avidly interested in her, even to the point of distraction. For a desperate girl of only sixteen, it wasn’t a hard step into thievery – she would just gain their attention long enough for deft, quick hands to find their purses and gently levy a few mizas. Ariadne quickly became a mildly accomplished thief.

Personality

Image
Outwardly, Ariadne acts warm and inviting. She is a vibrant young woman who is often described as witty, flirtatious and captivating. She frequently engages in social gatherings and conversations, and is rarely ever without something to say. She enjoys the finer things in life: music, art, plays, and things generally considered higher culture than her station. She also has a fondness for jewelry and cosmetics, fashion and clothing.

The truth is far less pleasant. When stripped of her convincing facade, Ariadne is cold and aloof. She is exceedingly conning and devious, and uses her beauty and sexuality to her advantages. Sex is a means to an end for Ariadne, another tool in her arsenal to exploit. She is selfish, unsympathetic and completely remorseless, especially when it comes to her targets. Ariadne steals without a thought given to the crime, as natural as breathing is to her.

Ariadne is, ultimately, a deeply hurt and angry individual. She carries scars from her childhood, never quite escaping the physical abuse she endured from her father, or the part her brother played. She is burdened with feelings of guilt and grief, and feels responsible for the death of her mother, which weighs heavily on the young woman. She has gone so far as to romanticize the mother she never knew into a woman of unrequited splendor and compassion.

Ariadne is addicted to any substances she can get her hands on that offer her an euphoric escape. This is not something that she does constantly, but rather in gluttonous and excessive binges. Usually following these binges, Ariadne must recover her funds lost to the gratuitous substances. She will come out of the binge feeling disgusted and ashamed with herself. In an attempt to recuperate finical loses, she will focus on her “work.” But as the weeks wane on, the itch begins to grow, becoming more difficult to control. Her past and her addiction are so deeply intertwined that one will usually trigger the other. As Ariadne weathers through the empty days and cold, lonely nights, her demons will rear their ugly tormenting heads. She can endure for only so long before she is swallowed whole in a depression too deep for her. The only way for Ariadne to cope with this monstrous abyss is to fill the empty void with things that allow her to feel something, if only for a little while. And so she embarks on the binge, and the cycle continues.

Religion

As a native of Ravok, Ariadne has a healthy respect of both Rhysol and The Voice, and gives them the necessary sacraments but that is as far as her devotion goes. She is not one to actively worship Rhysol. She will visit the Black Temple once in a while, paying homage and donations. While Ariadne may not actively practice Rhysol, she will vehemently defend him.

Since the vicious storm last spring, Ariadne's faith and belief in Rhysol is wavering. She is less certain of Ravok's worth to the god, and her deeply routed regard for him has been shook. Though she is not actively devote, she is (or was) faithful to Rhysol and The Voice. Now, however, that has changed.

When Ariadne was very young, she found in her mother's old possessions a book. As she grew, she would often spend hours pouring over the book, attempting to read the strange script within. In his more fatherly moments, her father would even help her learn to read, and as she became more adept at the skill she found out that what she held in her possession was her mother's journal, complete with poetry, sketches and entries. Now she keeps it with her, a reflection of the former woman she never came to know, but love wholeheartedly nonetheless.

Let's have some fun, shall we?

General Information :
1. What is your Name?
Ariadne Shalin

2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name?
While I was growing up my father and brother would sometimes call me Ari. You can't. I also use an alias.

3. How old are you?
23 years and counting.

4. What is your height?
5"3

5. What is your weight?
120lbs

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself.
Like a porcelain doll; beautiful on the outside, hollow on the inside. And just as fragile.

2. Describe yourself as others typically see you.
Like a half-remembered dream they want to embrace. Tantalizing, just on the edge of memory. I'm a fantasy that can be.

3. What is your favorite body feature?
I'm partial to my neck, shoulder and collar bone area.

4. How physically fit are you?
I more or less eat healthy foods, and I do a lot of walking (and when the need arises, run) and I enjoy dancing... but my current physic isn't something I need to actively try at.

5. How do you typically dress and what is your style?
I choose clothing that will accentuate my figure and flash a little bit of flesh - enough to entice, anyways. I choose sexy over comfort - bearing in mind that when I need to run and the leisure of movement, as that is a must.

Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like?
Korris and Arella Zenaide. Both are dead.

2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?

One older brother. His name is Graeve.

3. What is your extended family like?
I don't know them, don't know who they are or even where they live.

4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family?
I don't have close friends. Trust will kill you in the end.

5. Do you treat animals like family?
I don't like animals - especially anything that would rely on me to survive.

Location :
1. Where were you born?
Ravok.

2. Where do you live now?

Still in Ravok

3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be?
I like Ravok. It's beautiful, a city where romance merges with religion, and it has a quality of history that's very appealing to me, like I can feel the years in the stone.

4. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time?
I like to have a drink at the Immortal House of Pleasures, once in a while at The Silver Sliver Tavern. Or just stand on one of the bridges and watch the water go by, or ride in one of the Ravosalas.

5. Where do you fear to be?
There are not many places I would fear to go, but perhaps more the people. Sunberth is probably one. The place with all the cannibals, definitely another. To think of someone eating human flesh...frightful.

Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs?)
Not really. A few scars, but nothing very distinct and not really noticeable lest I point them out.

2. Are you right handed or left handed?
Right handed.

3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent?
I speak Common, and only Common. I do not have an accent.

4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
I circle twice around the rim of the cup I'm drinking from before my first sip. I don't know why, it's habit. Definitely odd, though I don't imagine annoying. Most people don't notice.

5. Do you have any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them?
No, I have none nor do I want any.

Occupations :
1. What is your occupation?
Thief extraordinaire. At your service.

2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why?
Most of the time I like it. There's something so intoxicating, so liberating about it. Never being tied down or selling myself short.

3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be?

I would be someone artistic; a musician, an artist, painter or poet. I would be someone creative and expressive.

4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why?
Anyone in the artistic field - it must be wondrous to create something from nothing.

5. What occupation do you lest like? Why?
There are not many jobs that I despise. Besides, I don't have any of them.

Childhood :
1. What sort of child were you?
Timid. Afraid. Obedient and always with the sour taste of fear clinging to my tongue.

2. What is your favorite memory from childhood?
The first day my father tried to teach me to read. He grew frustrated shortly afterwards and we didn't get very far, but I finally felt like maybe he did care.

3. What is your worst memory from childhood?
In the same day he drowned the stray kitten I brought home. No matter how loudly I begged and protested, he held that kitten underwater until she stopped thrashing around.

4. What sort of relationship did you have with your parents?
My mother died when I was born. My father... I'm still trying to understand the relationship we shared. A part of me - a very large part of me - loathed him. I wanted him dead. But another part of me was so desperate for his approval, the love and affection I had been starved of.

5. Who was your most influential rolemodel?

My mother. I never met her, but I feel like I know her through her journal.

Education :
1. What sort of education do you have?
I can read very well, and I sound very sophisticated but I do not have any formal education to boast of.

2. Do you like/dislike learning?
I like to challenge myself, and to learn as often as possible. I am naturally inquisitive.

3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities?
Most of my skills were forged when I was a teenager. I had no choice but to learn them or starve.

4. How do you learn best?
When it's do or die, I would say.

5. What are your educational goals for the future?
To build on the skills I have, maybe learn a few extra ones along the way.

Relationships :
1. Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not?
No. People are... imperfect. Incomplete. Messy. Easier to be on my own than deal with the complexities that people have to offer. My world is very straight-forward. Me and them.

2. Do you trust people easily? If not, why not?
No. Again, people are, ultimately, imperfect. How can you put even a part of yourself into a bond that's so frail it will unravel in a moment of pressure? Trust invites pain, and I don't need either.

3. Do you consider yourself straight, gay, bi, or something else?
I've been with both men and women. The end justify the means.

4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time.
Of course I have. It was awkward, clumsy and uncomfortable. I'm not one for kissing...lips, anyways,

5. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time.
It was equally as awkward, clumsy and uncomfortable as the kiss. It just hurt a lot more. Once he fell asleep I stole his miza purse and left.

Drugs and Alcohol :
1. Have you ever been drunk? If so, describe your first time.
Euphoric. Unbelievably liberating. It was like sinking in to purifying waters.

2. Do you like to drink on a regular basis?
I drink probably around four times a week.

3. What sort of alcohol do you prefer?
I prefer wine to beer, but I will drink both.

4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them?
Dangerously intoxicating. I enjoy them much more than alcohol, and that makes me much, much more weary of them.

5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific.
Alcohol is a glorious substance that enables the transition from the mind-numbingly mediocre existence into something much more explosive and fun. Drugs... drugs are everything I've ever been denied. It's too easy for me to like them, and that scares me.

Likes and Dislikes :
1. What are your hobbies?
Reading, cosmetics, fashion and window shopping. Parties and drinking.

2. Do you like to read?
Yes. I like poetry quite a bit.

3. What annoys you more than anything else?
Bad manners, beggars and pushy people.

4. What do you find the most relaxing activity to do?
At home with a glass of wine and a book of poetry.

5. What kinds of things embarrass you? Why?
Appearing poor, open affection.

Favorites :
1. What is your favorite color or colors?
I'm partial to red and blue. Red is a sexual charged colour - dramatic and demanding. Blue is serene, calm and patient. And it looks great with my hair.

2. What is your favorite time of day?
Dusk. There is a time just before the sun slips behind the horizon, and the richest light bathes Ravok in mottling golds and reds. It's absolutely breath-taking.

3. What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?
Once, when I was still very young, I came across a woman painting on the bridge. She had a half-finished canvas painting on her easel, and when I looked at the painting it shocked me to silence. The painting was of the water and buildings directly in front of her, but in her painting she somehow managed to catch more than just the view. She conveyed the marriage between the canal and the buildings, the bridges and the people. She made Ravok more than just a city for me that day, and created something so profound it affected a young child still too young to understand the effects.

4. What do you like to eat? What do you hate to eat?
I usually enjoy sweet fruits - strawberries, peaches, fruits like that.[b]

5. What is your favorite type of weather? Does any kind scare you?
[b]Although we don't get it often, I enjoy rain and stormy weather. At least I use to, before the storm in Spring...

Outlook :
1. Are you optimistic or pessimistic?
I've never really thought of it. I'd probably be called a pessimistic, though I choose to think I'm more of a realist.

2. What are your religious views?
I have a deep respect and faith for Rhysol and all he provides for us.

3. Would you be able to kill?
I don't think so. Stealing mizas from people is one thing, stealing their lives is another. I usually avoid violence.

4. What are your views on sex?
A means to an end - another tool that can be used if the need arises. Sex is like a pacifier, it calms both parties down after the act. I prefer not to rely on sex as a means of gaining mizas, but I'm not above using it to get closer to a target. Sometimes, I push my seduction tactics to far - to the point where they believe they will have sex with me. Most men do not push the subject when I reveal my intention was to never do that, but some... are not so placid.

5. What, in your opinion, makes a successful life?
Lots of mizas; wealth brings with it reputation and respect.

Actions :
1. What is the worst and best thing you’ve ever done?
The worst I've ever done was dump my father's body into Lake Ravok. He deserved better than that - he may have been an ass, but he was still a person. The best thing I've ever done was get myself out of that shack.

2. What is your greatest regret?
That the result of my birth was the reason my mother died.

3. What is your best/worst memory?
My best memory is my first successful pick-pocket. There was a long string of failed attempts prior to it, and I was feel discouraged and increasingly hungry. It was relieving to get it. Satisfying. I have a lot of bad memories, so there isn't really a "worst" among them.

4. If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why?
By this point you should already know the answer - my mother's death.

5. What are you the most proud of doing in your life?
Living it. By my own rules. I didn't think I would survive Korris, to be completely honest.

Emotions :
1. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings with others?
Never. They don't need to know anything about me.

2. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
Not particularly. They're all potential pay cheques, really.

3. What makes you happy?
My hobbies. Setting myself a goal and accomplishing it.

4. Who or what, if anything, would you die for?
No one. My life is far more precious to me than anything else.

5. What makes you angry?
Threats directed at me and impromptu advances.

Relationships :
1. In general, how do you treat others?
Very well. Politeness never hurt anybody. Besides, people respond better to a more pleasant disposition.

2. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
Me. Because there's no one more important in my life than me. I don't have any family or friends, so really, it's just me.

3. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
Not many.

4. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If not, describe an ideal lover.
I don't have a spouse or significant other. My ideal lover would be one that comes for an hour and leaves after.

5. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
Not in the least.

Group Situations :
1. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I will argue to a point, but if it becomes more aggressive I will stop (unless it's important to me.)

2. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
Not normally, no.

3. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
Yes, large groups tend to offer a multitude of interesting things - both conversationally and materialistically.

4. Do you care what others think of you?
Yes. It's imperative to the way I conduct business.

5. What do you think of others, in general?
Everyone is out for themselves. Might as well do the same.

Self Image :
1. What is your greatest strength as a person?
It's nearly impossible to penetrate my outer shell. I'm an extremely private person, and even my acquaintances I keep at arms length. I have no friends. I have no family. Sometimes it's lonely, but better to be alone than to be dead.

2. What is your greatest weakness?
Unfortunately, I know that I'm an emotionally fragile being. I don't let people get close because I'm afraid of them knowing me, and then using that knowledge against me. I've been scarred by my childhood and I've never learned some of the essential characteristics of humanity; compassion, love and sympathy.

3. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My inability to feel anything meaningful.

4. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?
Introverted.

5. Are you generally organized or messy?
Meticulously organized.[b]

Beliefs :
1. What God or Goddess do you find most appealing, if any?
[b]Rhysol. He protects Ravok... at least he use to. I find my faith in him is wavering, though I would never voice such a thing.

2. Which God or Goddess do you fear, if any?
None, really. I don't think about the Gods or Goddesses (save Rhysol) on a daily basis.

3. Do you have any Gnosis Marks? If so, how did you receive them?
No. To be honest I don't want any god's attention, especially intimately enough to earn myself a Gnosis mark.

4. What lengths would you go to to please your deity?
Not very far. If it's quick and easy I'll do it, otherwise I'm not likely to.

5. Where do you draw the line at pleasing your deity? What is too much?
Probably killing people. I don't really think I'd be capable of taking another life.

Life & Death :
1. What do you absolutely live for?
Wealth. Power. Respect.

2. What is the best part of life?
Living it. The arts. Wine and mizas.

3. What is the best part of death?
Probably an end to the clamour of life. Finally a peaceful quiet. An end.

4. If you could choose, how would you want to die?
Quietly in my bed, surrounded by the things I love - gold.

5. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
I would most like to be remembered for my engaging personality and seduction. And, of course, how rich I was.
