The Scars of the Past Zerda was born on the 19th Day of Summer. Life in the desert was hot and hard. Her mother was a Kelvic slave to a rich merciless merchant who liked to travel in search of new items to sell. When they were wondering the desert her mother gave birth to the beautiful baby girl. Her mother was full of joy for a week. Then her master found out about the child. Zerda's mother had not taken the child to her master right away and the man was mad. He killed the woman right then and there. Then he took the child's blanket and used it to wipe the blood off his good knife. He took the babe and raised her like a dog. As soon as the child changed for the first time he collared her and kept her like that, never removing the chain unless he needed her. She was only allowed to shift twice in her life and was never allowed to see a mirror, so she had no idea what she looked liked. She was his lap dog, scout, and companion. When he craved a female's touch and none was available, she became his lover. He didn't need her for that too often though. One day they were traveling through the desert and the man started to pant. They had run out of water hours earlier. Zerda was used to the desert, as fennec foxes' kidneys are adapted to hold water, and she was fine. The man, on the other hand, was not. His kind was not adapted and soon, he collapsed on the sand. He lay there for hours, but didn't have the strenght to unclasp Zerda's collar so she could help him. Then he lay still. Zerda lay with his cold hardening body for a day and night. Then, survival pushed her on. She wandered the desert, drinking dew that accumulated in her den and hunted for prey. The man never fed her any food from his plate, so Zerda learned to hunt quickly and affectivly. She became no thinner, maybe even a little fatter without the man beating her everyday she was late. She became almost natural in the desert, with the exception of her collar, which marked her as a slave. This is how she entered Ahnatep, a slave.
