"My hope is on the horizon,
every face your eyes I do see
I plead and pray though each night and day
Our embrace is only a dream"

Name: Dominyon Curare
Race: Symenestra
Age: 30
Gender: male

Physical appearance:

Like many of his race, Dominyon appears almost wraithlike, being tall, thin and long limbed, with a spectral complexion traced in silvery grey veins. Deep set golden eyes observe the world from under heavy dark brows, and his long, angular face is framed by shoulder length tendrils of black hair. However, his deceptively delicate looking fingers hold a surprising amount of strength, as does his lithe but athletic frame. His musculature runs to lean, sinewy and flexible, a part of his Symenestra heritage, which allows for a high level of agility and speed, especially when climbing.

Character Concept:

Dominyon is a charismatic individual, a natural born leader who bends others to his will through humor, seduction, and intelligence, in lieu of brute strength or cunning. Whether he exerts his usually benign influence knowingly, or by sheer force of habit, no doubt varies with the circumstances. On a day to day basis, interacting with his family, his friends, and the other inhabitants of Kalinor, it is more likely his innate ability to read others well that guides him, to steer them towards his own often unverbalized goals. During those times when he has left his home behind – once during a gleaning, and three times now in search of surrogates – he has more consciously brought to bear his wit, his charm, and his powers of persuasion to convince Azo that truly, there is nothing to fear – from him, or from his race. There is no diffidence or hesitancy about him. He is a person of strong beliefs and great strength of mind as well. Some might mistake this as stubbornness, when in actuality it is simply faith – in himself, in his people, and in survival. He is generally well liked, and pleasant, though those who cross him, or his family, are setting themselves up for a fight. Dominyon can be quite ruthless, and doesn’t bother with either remorse or regret – things that need to be done are done - and then forgotten. And though a pragmatist, with a very logical, analytical mind, he has a wicked sense of humor and is far from being dour or cold. However, like many who have the ability to lead others, he often can be a bit condescending or patronizing, and gets frustrated too easily when those he would lead balk or chafe under his hand. In a word, he knows that he is right, so why can’t everyone else see that too?

Of late, since Namalia, his wife, left in the Spring on a harvest, for their third child, Dom has been much more on edge. As Fall progresses, his uneasiness increases daily, and his usual even temper seems a bit frazzled.

Character History:

Dominyon is the eldest of two children born to Aaliyon and Savaminda Curare. He and his brother, Decimon, were both born of surrogates harvested by Aaliyon, as he was the eldest child of his family. Aaliyon was, and is still, a hunter, and Dominyon followed in his father’s footsteps, beginning in his mid-teens. At his father’s side, he learned how to shoot a bow, to survive in the wildness that was the Unforgiving, and to not get lost. In his late teens, he accompanied his uncle, Tevander Curare, on a gleaning, and easily convinced a scholar of Riverfall to return with them to the Cribellum in their beautiful underground city. A few years later, Dom went out on his first harvest, and brought back a surrogate from Avanthal. His own betrothed was waiting for him, and with his success at procuring a female host for their first child, he married Namalia. They were soon enough the proud parents of a sweet, beautiful baby girl - Sysellia.

When Decimon turned twenty, he married, and Dominyon went again on a harvest, and brought back a girl of Alvadas, who produced a son for his brother and sister-in-law. The next year he procured yet another female, again from Avanthal, with the thought that her offspring would perhaps resemble more closely Sysellia than would a non-Vantha surrogate. In due time, Dominyon and Namalia had a second child – a son, Aetheral.

About two years ago, Dom and Namalia began to discuss the possibility of having a third child. Dom automatically assumed that he would once again set forth to head north and find an acceptable surrogate in the environs of Avanthal. But Namalia proposed that she should go on this, the harvest for their final child, for she too was a first born, and she wished to fulfill that duty. Frankly, she admitted that she was curious about the outside world as well, which she hadn’t seen since she had gone on a gleaning as a teenager. She put it to her husband that she had a desire to select the mother of their last child herself. Dominyon was greatly opposed to this, primarily out of fear for his wife’s safety. He loved Namalia with a great depth and breadth of passion and he tried to convince her that in this case, it was entirely appropriate for her to forego her responsibility as a firstborn as he could secure what they needed. They discussed it at length, but Namalia would not be dissuaded – her family too was livid that Dom should try to so strip their firstborn of her dignity in denying her the chance to fulfill her familial and cultural duty. Finally, Dom very reluctantly agreed (as he had basically been overruled) and Namalia made her preparations to leave on her harvest as soon as Spring arrived.

Of course, things were completely disarrayed with the arrival of the Djed storm. Namalia’s plans had to be postponed, and Dominyon did everything in his power to try to convince her to cancel them altogether. But in the end, as soon as she was able, Namalia left for the harbor, and boarded a ship heading north. With a departure in mid-Spring, she estimated that she would be back in about two seasons – mid-Fall – before the winter closed in and made travel in the Unforgiving virtually impossible.

Trying to shove his anxiety aside, Dom waited patiently for word to come of her travels. In mid-summer, he had a letter dated weeks earlier, in which Namalia indicated that she had reached the coast on the other side of the mountains from Lhavit. It said that she intended to travel on from there directly to Avanthal. Another arrived just as Sivah gave up his reign to Bala, indicating that she had reached her destination and was preparing to begin her search for a likely girl. Dom now waits for another missive, or for his wife to simply turn up, back home, safe. She could conceivably arrive any day, unannounced, if a letter had gone astray. But no word has come, and no Namalia. His anxiety has begun to increase, and with it an underlying feeling of resentment towards Namalia’s family as well, though he blames himself more than anyone, for letting her go. But far more than resentment or guilt, a gnawing uneasiness eats away at him, as he hopes for his wife’s return with each passing day.
