Well, hallo there, and let me be the first to welcome you officially to the wonderfulness that is Mizahar! From the tone of your intro, you sound like you won't have very many problems fitting in, even if your RP skills are a little rusty

.
The lore and that glorious wiki are exciting (at least to me), but they can be daunting, too. You don't need to know ALL of it to start playing - just be sure to read up on your
Races and pick the one which appeals most, your
Cities for where you want to start out, and your professional
Skills. If you intend to play a mage, reading all about the
magic is obviously a must!
The best place to start is with the PM that 'admin' will have sent you - that has links to all sorts of useful bits of information. Just in case, I'll reproduce a few of them here (forgive any repetition, or if you've already looked at everything.)
The
Starting Guide is your friend! It might look a little intimidating, but just take each section as it comes and it'll all be ticketyboo in no time. Consulting the
Starting Package is immensely helpful, too - the Miz team recognize that characters don't just pop into being knowing
nothing, after all. Snooping at other people's
Character Sheets can help you figure out what to include, too.
Things You Need To Know is our helpful little list of common rules, it's not that onerous.
If you have any questions that don't seem to be covered by the Guides and the wiki, don't hesitate to shoot a PM off to a Storyteller - that's anyone with a coloured name. They're our moderators, and if they can't answer your question, they can certainly direct you to someone who can in short order. You can also always pop into Chat and ask there; there are generally some veteran players floating around who are veritable fountains of knowledge on Miz, and Storytellers do put in appearances there as well.
If it all looks a bit daunting, take a leaf out of Douglas Adams' Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy; DON'T PANIC! All the guides and the advice and, yes, even the rules are there to help you, and there's plenty of players and Storytellers alike who'll gladly put you on the right track.
One last bit of advice - don't be afraid to PM players with thread ideas and the like - the worst anyone is going to say to you is 'I'm sorry, but I don't think that idea really fits with my character. Perhaps if we did this...' or 'I'm sorry, but I'm bogged down in threads at the moment; perhaps at a later date?'
Good luck - to you and your husband - and I hope to see you on the boards in due time!
