Nin

Clay. It’s rain, dead leaves, dust, all my dead ancestors. Stones that have been ground into sand. Mud. The whole cycle of life and death.

Basic Information

Race: Pycon
Birthday & Age : 22nd day of Spring 506 AV; 5 years old
Gender: Female

Physical Description
Crafted finely from clay, like all Pycons, Nin’s appearance has changed over time. Her entire body is made of solid pearly white clay, a much starker color than most Pycons. Currently, standing at precisely 8 inches tall, Nin’s current form is that of a young looking child. She’s a sprightly thing. The Pycon girl has a muscular yet wiry frame with traces of an adolescent appearance. She doesn’t fit into the category of beautiful or cute so often associated with children; rather, Nin’s features are impish with a trace of childlike elegance. Sharp and inquiring, Nin moves with a restless bounce. She gesticulates wildly when speaks and unabashedly reacts with her thin eyebrows when listening.

Character Concept
Going by first impressions alone, Nin appears to be senseless, hotheaded, and cute. Her diminutive size and childlike demeanor certainly tip the scale toward cute. When she wants to Nin can exhibit lavish charisma, playing up her image as a spritely little girl. She absolutely adores attention, showing pet-like devotion to select individuals. Her obsessions and fascinations are whimsical and intense, which leads her to be incredibly stubborn and willful. Given her youth and limited interactions with many people, the Pycon experiences infatuations with all the intensity of a first crush. However, while she becomes very easily attached to certain types of personalities she is equally repelled by other types. This leads Nin to having very disparate interactions with those she encounters as she often makes snap judgments of those around her.

Despite the initial signs of immaturity, the Pycon possesses an incredibly astute mind and at times a shrewd wit. Nin is led by a fiery curiosity that propels her into many unexpected intellectual endeavors. She constantly seeks to broaden her knowledge and often dominates conversations with her questioning as if there are too many things to know and never enough time. She tends to be extremely critical of anything not done directly by her (which is often given her size). What has the potential to eventually develop and transform into a diverse wisdom is currently still entrenched within childish perceptions, whimsies, and rationales.

Given the single-minded nature of her efforts, Nin is highly temperamental and prone to dangerous levels of moodiness. She has often been labeled as manic to those who have seen darker sides of her personality: possessed by seething fits of rage one moment and then bouts of joy the next. Most poignantly, the young Pycon suffers from periods of melancholy that are guised under a haughty and even mean-spirited demeanor. It is during these morose moments of personal vulnerability that she shows the greatest potential for malice.

Character History
Nin grew up in the comfort of an affluent home, nestled within the metropolis of Syliras. The de Greene family was a family of old blood and scholarly minds who were eager to take in such a charming young Pycon for their son as a playmate and companion. Thus, Nin grew up with the best tomes of knowledge at her disposal and a life of luxury that most were unaccustomed to. The boy who she was supposed to keep company to was just fifteen years old when she arrived. His name was Reynard and Nin thought he had the most beautiful smile she had ever seen. While growing up, they would play in the thin coppice of trees on the family grounds pretending to be fairies and adventurers. Nin, lithe and willowy as any wayward spirit stayed by Reynard’s side day and night: tagging along for his studies, reading books with him at night, wandering the grounds during the daytime making up fantastical stories and playing a small flute to entertain him.

Although Nin lived within the home of an influential family, she took little note of any political interactions amongst the family, preferring to spend most of her time in the childish world Reynard and she had both created. But there came a time when Reynard was no longer a boy, and on his eighteenth birthday she had no idea the plans her parents were making for him.

It was announced at Reynard’s eighteenth birthday celebration that had had been betrothed to a woman from another upper class family in Syliras and Nin watched as her childhood friend faded away. The woman, Lillian, was certainly kind. She enjoyed Nin’s company—found her endearing. Yet, Nin could only view this new person in the household as an intruder. For a while Nin’s jealousy was displaced and she began acting out. It was small things at first. She would knock over glasses at mealtimes, taunt the workers in the home, and begin stealing small items from the de Greene’s bedrooms. She became increasingly attached to Reynard, falling into fits of depression or rage if he left her. She would follow Reynard and his fiancé, unable to comprehend why Reynard couldn’t love her the way he loved his fiancé.

She watched one morning as Reynard and Lillian walked along the grounds together. They stopped and in a brief moment of tenderness, Reynard tucked an auburn strand of hair behind Lillian’s hair. Later that night, overcome by jealousy, Nin crept into the woman’s quarters and cut off her hair while she was sleeping, a shockingly malicious act for such a seemingly innocent and youthful creature. Needless to say, the Pycon was cast from the home.

Stripped of the luxury she had known all her life, Nin turned to the streets of Syliras. It was easy to get by unnoticed given her stature. She stays by the marketplaces when she can given the abundance of resources, but seeks solitude along the outskirts of the city.
