Normal….was there really ever normal around the Sanctuary? To Serrif it always seemed like chaos had a way of ebbing into things when it was least expected. Yes, chaos; that balancing factor that seemed to nudge in when people became a little too complacent with what was going on in their lives. It kept people on their toes and came in many forms. To some chaos would be a vase falling off a shelf and breaking, or maybe a medicine concoction going stray. But around the Sanctuary chaos seemed to take on a much more grandeur form.
Chaos here seemed to be a little more encompassing, bearing down on everyone at once. It was almost comical at times how the small scale chaotic things didn’t matter; Serrif found himself nearly always waiting for the next big thing to happen to the staff. When he was brought into the Sanctuary last winter he didn’t understand the reason for how close everyone was. He didn’t know then that it was out of necessity, that they had to trust each other completely because one day these links would be tested. They had to function as one, know each others strengths and weaknesses; and more importantly know how to cover for these weaknesses when the time came. They had to be one, they needed to stand strong covering each other completely otherwise they would fall apart when the test came.
Serrif was glad Elem had decided to join him, lonely runs were exactly that…lonely. And he was wanting to have someone join him every now and then, seemed the cool weather and the fatigue of a run brought out honesty in a person. Maybe he would take Rhy for a run sometime here soon…or maybe Gianne…Why did his thoughts seem to come back to Gianne? He had seen beautiful women before her. Heck he lived in Mura surrounded by them you would think they wouldn’t occupy his spare time by now. But for some reason Gianne did. Maybe it was because she was of his race and had shown some interest in him?
With every step they were that much closer to the seacave entrance by the shore. It was a fortified entrance that he was sure would stand up to just about anything and everything that was thrown at it. It had withstood the storms and much more…
“Yes, I may do that someday. But for now I am content here.” The cave came into view and he stopped outside it breathing some letting his heartbeat lower some. He could feel it in his temples, and it felt like the pulses could literally be felt in the tips of his fingers as well.
In all this was a good run, and he knew now that he could push this man and he would respond. Which was good, because the Sanctuary had enemies, as did the Cytali. And if he wanted to be strong and united again he would need people around him who were as steadfast as he was. As he had been… Kavala and he had plenty of work ahead of them if they were to do this correctly. If they were going to unite all those people again and form the Cytali anew. This would bring their enemies to light again. They would have to be ready…and they weren’t yet.
So he ran in the mornings to strengthen himself, test his resolve, push his limits. That was important because if he didn’t push his limits his enemies would, and he wouldn’t be at their mercy…no…not again. He tested himself so that others didn’t have to. So that when the time came he would be able to stand a chance. He would help Kavala protect this place however he could. Because to him…this place was home now; and he was willing to invest his blood in this place. He knew one day he would have to tie up his loose ends, but for now he was happy here with the Sanctuary staff, and the possibility of the rebirth of the Cytali.
“Maybe one day I will. You should visit the Opal Temple as well. The healers there are miraculous. Maybe you will see Rak’keli while you are there. She does reside there after all. You may even catch her out and about the isle. She does love the Konti deeply.” It was so odd to think that one could catch a goddess in the flesh walking about the isle. But it was not an uncommon occurrence on Mura to catch her out and about. Serrif had found her himself after all.
“But her sister Avalis is much more elusive than one would think. Even for being the mother of all Konti she is extremely difficult to find. Even if you know where to look.” He smiled and spoke again to Elem trying to prick his interests in the past.
“You know, if you got a mark from Nysel you would be able to see the past instead of studying what is left of it.” He believed this would get his interest easily.
“You can walk through your past lives and selves see what they saw, experience what they did like you are there. You would be able to see things for what they really were instead of what you believe them to be through study of artifacts. If practiced enough you could walk other peoples memories as they intertwine with your own branching off to see the memories of others…it would be extraordinary for study of the past.” He stretched some to lower his heart rate before he would take a quick dip in the water to cleanse himself of the sweat that clung to his body.
“Think about it, it could benefit you especially if you want to continue to study the past.” He himself had taken to praying to Nysel when he could. Telling the god that he wanted to rebuild the Cytali with Kavala, harness the power of the past and use it in the present again. So much information was lost, and it was time to resurrect it again in the present.
