Winter's Arrival

Time Stamp: Winter Day 1, 512
The air was getting colder. Winter’s cloak was wrapping tighter and tighter around the lands with every passing day. Snow would soon be falling. The tiny snowflakes cascading to the earth where they would build up, and melt upon springs arrival. The view from atop the mountain-where he had meet Cin-was breathtaking, and for a second it seemed as time stood still. There atop Mt. Skyinarta Ishgrameer felt at peace.

He sat dressed in his night leathers, and wrapped in his thick fur cloak in hopes of staving off the cold that penetrated his bones. The wind howled lightly, as if whispering of the winter storms to come. The cloak was adorned with owl feathers that resembled the feathers tied into his hair. He sat looking at a scenic vista that sprawled out before him. Mountain ranges stood up like stone spikes jutting from the earth. Clouds littered the sky in random patches like a mismatched quilt.

Ishgrameer reflected to himself some of the passing of the last season. It had been a different life than what he was used to. Surrounded by people. Meeting new friends. Making a new home for himself in Wind Reach. The hunt with Leaf. The instance at the Dreaming Lady. The random conversations with Val, and above all the meeting with Cin which had been the first.

It was all a rather interesting chain of events. For the rest of the days that fell in between had been filled with the making of bows, arrows, and the practicing of his longbow prowess.

Despite the comfort that bloomed in his heart when he helped people, and met new friends he always held a certain reverence for solitude. Perhaps it was his true nature that always clawed within him. He had warred with it ever since arriving in Wind Reach. The predatory nature raged within him when he found himself in certain situations. There was also something about solitude that had always offered him clarity to his surroundings.

A season was down and he had yet to fulfill his promise. He knew that some things took time, but he was also fearful. Be patient, he told himself. Taking a feather from his cloak he smiled at it, and the memories that were locked within it. He held it aloft, and then it was caught up by the wind. It spun and spiraled through the air. After a minute it was lost to his sight.

“Perhaps some of us are just destined to drift upon the wind. Then we are carried aloft into new lands when we no longer need stay.”

However he was determined to stay, until his promise was fulfilled, and if nothing was to be found within Wind Reach he would journey to the ends of the land, until his promise was finished; or die trying. Winter was at hand, in all its fury and splendor. Storms would approach, but he knew that the warmth of a community tied together by threads of friendship would keep the people of Wind Reach warm through such conditions.

Silently Ishgrameer hoped that he would be able to fully become a part of such a community. The wind whistled a tune of frost. There he sat, awaiting another soul to arrive much like when he had arrived in the fall. He thought that if someone did arrive it would do them well to find another soul and not solitude.

Winter's Arrival

Postby Leaf on December 4th, 2012, 3:47 am

Leaf was bundled up against the cold that had begun to seep into the land, the thick katinu he had bought long ago swaddling his form. It was longer than most to account for his aversion to the bitter cold of these mountainous winters. It was ironic that he lived in such a northern city considering that he wasn't fond of cold but he wouldnt have it any other way.

Now, he made his way up the mountain through the warrens, heading toward the sky and the soaring freedom that the Edge of the World provided him with. Even if he chose to stay human during this season he still loved the feel of the wind on his skin.

As he exited onto the Edge, he spared a moment to lament at the change winter brought to the land and the absence of most of the birds that liked the warmth as much as he. He looked around for signs of life, seeking his usual solitude that he just didn't get in the inner warrens. However, when he saw a familiar shape, he decided a bit of company wasn't so bad.

Ishgrameer he had met once before and had ended up on a hunt with him. It wasn't a bad encounter and Leaf didn't mind the other Kelvic.

"Don't you find it cold in that little bit of cloth you're wearing?" He said as he joined Ishgrameer. The antagonizing tone would have offended anyone who hadn't realised that Leaf rarely spoke in gentle tones and with kind words. He was naturally abrasive. "The coats these Inarta use are more suited to these temperatures." He stared down the bridge of his nose at the man.

Winter's Arrival

Postby Ishgrameer Windwalker on December 4th, 2012, 4:15 pm

Ishgrameer turned his head to see who it was that had arrived, but the voice sounded familiar. It was Leaf, a fellow kelvic whom he had hunted with during the fall. The encounter had proved rather delightful, and a reminder of what he had been missing from his life in the wilds where hunting was a daily task. He eyed Leaf as he spoke, noting the familiar hawk-like features of his face-and personality. He was not offended by Leaf’s tone, or choice of words, for he knew how hard it was to go against one’s nature. Ishgrameer motioned to Leaf to join him where he sat as he spoke:

“I admit the chill bites deep. But it does not bother me as it does some. I have grown accustomed to it. My childhood forced me to. Besides this is but the beginning of the cold I am sure is yet to come. Though I have noticed the local attire. Perhaps it’s time I bought another set of clothing.”

Ishgrameer slipped into thought for a second as he contemplated the idea. Waiting for Leaf to respond he thought about what he would do in the next few days. He thought perhaps a stroll through the Cherry Grove would be refreshing, if not calming. Snapping back to the here and now he addressed Leaf again:

“So what brings you here? Out into the cold.”

Winter's Arrival

Postby Leaf on December 22nd, 2012, 5:19 am

"I like coming up here sometimes when down there gets too crowded. I can't go outside during the Winter and it bothers me to stay cooped up like some caged hen inside the city. I like the quiet this place gives." Much wordier than his usual responses, Leaf thought it sufficed. He came to drop down next to Ishgrameer and sit. Even though the stone and snow was cold on his bottom and legs, he soon grew to ignore the sting.

"Why are you out here all alone? Come to wait for somebody, hm?" Now there was an edge to his voice. Teasing. Leaf was teasing. "I bet I'm ruining the best place to sit down with a pretty lady, but don't worry. I'll get up when she gets here."

He offered a fierce smile and then looked out to the horizon out over the cliff. The bowl of the volcano stretched out before them, white and dotted by snow-laden green and the twin lakes. It was a beautiful horizon. Even if the cold still bothered him, Leaf could appreciate a pretty horizon the same way he could appreciate a pretty lady.

"So, how have you been since we hunted?" He asked the other Kelvic, trying his best to keep up conversation. Oh, how he rued his lack of conversational skills.
