The vast mountain range of Kalea is home of secret valleys, dead-end canyons, and passes that lead to places long forgotten or yet to be discovered.

Not completely heartless, Navisya politely stopped and turned to look over her shoulder when the boy asked her to wait for him. She would have been fascinated to hear his plea for help—but instead watched the human become engulfed in a swirl of blinding lights, stinging the Symenestra's sensitive eyes and forcing her to cringe. Zlynge, of course, was put on high alert and immediately began to bark. When Navisya opened her eyes again, the boy was gone.

And a small marmot-like creature came skittering up to her across the rocky beach.

The idea that this was some sort of magic trick came and quickly passed when she quickly realized what the boy was. A Kelvic! It explained much, including the boy's inanity and cluelessness, and complete comfort in nudity. That was what he had meant by 'either way'. It was so damn obvious now in retrospect. Why hadn't she put it together before?

Zlynge absolutely lost his mind. Navisya's slender frame was knocked staggering off to the side as the dog broke free of her grasp, his large jaws snapping at the critter. The dog's killer instinct had set in, and his large paws were kicking up rocks and dust as he furiously tried to get his teeth on the ferret. Although he was accustomed to small lizards and cliff rats, this human who had turned into a snack-sized little animal was completely new to him. He didn't know how to act, all he knew was that he wanted to catch it and kill it.

The only hope for the ferret was to find some tiny place to hide where a large Akinva Deerstalker wouldn't be able to reach.

"Zlynge! Stop it! Heel!" It was no use, but Navisya's shouting continued. She didn't dare come between her dog and the ferret, but she didn't want to see her dog kill a defenseless Kelvic. There was no point in its senseless death. "Zlynge! Come!"

Male Kelvics were a new creature to Navisya as well. She had seen countless female ones (they made perfect surrogates), but there had never been a reason for anyone to drag a male into the caverns of Kalinor. Idly, she wondered if the creature had been someone's pet.

Whoops. The dog was apparently a hunting dog, as it went nuts when he changed. He leaped up towards Symenestra's arms, hoping for the dog to at least not attack there. He scrabbled up to her shoulders and wrapped his tail tightly around her neck, forgetting that she used it to breath through. He hissed loudly at the dog, half tempted to spray it's smell at it's nose, see if that cleared him off.

Unfortunately, the dog jumped up and backed at him again. He dived off her shoulder and blitzed down the sand of the beach. As the dog chased after him, he raised his tail and sprayed his scent glands across the dog's nose. He hissed again and hides behind a sand dune, hoping that the Symenestra would control her mutt mongol.

[Flashback] Happy Misfortune (Dex)

"Agh! Get off you furry little cretin—" Navisya's dog knew no restraint. He may have actually been trying to protect her from the strange, delicious-looking creature scrabbling over his master's narrow frame. Zlynge, unfortunately, didn't know his own strength, and all at once his giant paws struck both of Navisya's shoulders. The Symenestra was knocked backward and stumbled as she tried to stay on her feet. Her back slammed into the cliff wall behind her, knocking free a shower of dust.

As soon as the creature leapt from her, Zlynge took off after it like a loosed arrow. A somewhat battered Navisya was left to recover, grunting in pain and frustration as she brushed dirt and sand off of her clothing.

Zlynge's wild barking was suddenly cut off in one, sharp yelp. A knife of fear ripped through Navisya's heart as her eyes snapped upward. She saw her dog, thankfully unharmed, backing away from the tiny Kelvic as he furiously rubbed at his nose with his paws. The hunter understood the dog's dismay as she approached, cringing as she detected the foul scent polluting the ocean air. She deduced that the creature had similar abilities to a skunk, and made a due note.

"See what happens when you attack strange creatures, Zlynge? Stupid beast." Navisya lifted her arm to her face in an attempt to block out the acrid odor that now plagued her dog. That was going to take weeks to wash out. She might have to tie him up on the outer platform of her nest. Her round golden eyes turned to the small animal. "You've made your point, Kelvic. The dog won't harm you, but you alarmed him when you ran toward us. I don't have any food, and I certainly don't want to keep you," she added, reminded of a Kelvic's strange drive to attach itself to humanoid beings. "If you climb on me like that again, I'll stick you with an arrow. What in Mizahar were you thinking?"

She knew the creature couldn't respond in that form, but hoped he'd at least comprehend her question.

He cautiously poked his head out from behind a sand dune. The dog was suitably dissuaded from chasing him, even though his scent glands were weaker to his skunk cousins. But to an animal with a sensitive nose like a dog, it still stunk, especially a well aimed shot like that.

Symenestra finally caught up to them and started making comments. He felt most pleased when she called the dog a stupid beast. He crawled back over the sand dune, and cocked his head as she made comments. Unfortunately, she didn't have food, which is what he really needed most. Bowing his upper body up and down a few times, he scampered back to along side her, careful to stay on the opposite side of the dog.

Hoping to improve her mood, he rubbing gently against her leg before scampering forward a bit, excited to move on.
