Shorik Malentfeis

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Birthday: 7, Summer, 493 AV
Birthplace: Syliras

Appearance: Shorik stands at 5'10", weighing around 162lbs. His frame is a bit on the skinny side, with fair skin and blue eyes. He has unkempt brown hair that falls to his shoulders, with little-to-no facial hair(at most, he can grow a scruffy goatee, but chooses not to.). For clothing, Shorik keeps it simple with a red shirt, black pants, and brown boots.

Character Concept

Shorik is, in short, a wanderer. He likes adventure and exploration, and actively seeks it. He has no major roots anywhere, and one can say he has no purpose, but he may find one as he travels. Regardless, for him it's not about the destination, but the journey there.

Despite being free-spirited in the physical sense, however, he's rather guarded emotionally. Throughout his life, those close to him either died, or left him with no goodbye. As such, he's become reluctant to form relationships with people beyond 'acquaintances'. This is not to say it's impossible to become his friend, just that it takes work. He's a kind enough person, willing to help out if he feels like it. He's easy enough to chat with, so long as the conversation doesn't get into personal details. At that point, he'll become noticably dodgy, and try to steer the conversation back to something else. Continue to prod though, and he may open up, albeit hesitantly.

Around women, Shorik is... well... awkward. No doubt, he'll find them attractive, but he hesitates to talk to them, even about the small stuff. He'll never be the one to initiate a conversation with them.

Shorik isn't what you'd call a religious man. He's mostly indifferent towards religion and gods. Of course, this means he has no Gnosis marks.

Character History

Shorik Malentfeis was the second son born to Cedric and Mara Malentfeis, with the latter dying while giving birth to him. His father was a poor merchant in Syliras, and did his best to take care of him and his borther Aeden. However, illness took him when Shorik was 10 years old, leaving the two boys to fend for themselves.

For about three years, Shorik was dependent on his older brother... Something he didn't particularly like. Once he turned 13, he jumped at every chance to help support himself and his brother. At first, it was odd jobs around the city. But, by the time he was 15, Shorik dabbled into blacksmithing. He mostly was given small things to forge, like daggers, and maybe the occasional sword, but never anything complicated. Around this time, Shorik's brother began feeling restless, and left the city one night while Shorik was asleep.

Shorik was hurt that his brother left without a word, or even a note, and became less sociable because of it. He started to do mercenary work (mostly just escourts and light stuff), and became fond with the world outside the city walls. So, he gave up the small room that his brother and him called home, and became a wanderer. He still kept to the Sylira area, but never stayed around the same place too long.

When the Djed Storm of 512 occurred, Shorik had been restocking in Syliras. Like many others, he was placed in a crammed bunker for two weeks while the Syliran Knights Grandmaster awaited the all-clear to emerge. It was two weeks of near-hell for the young man. He had gotten accustomed to the life of a wanderer by now, and being crammed into a bunker with a bunch of strangers was nowhere near appealing. Once the city was allowed to emerge, Shorik was among the first to come zipping out, and back onto the open road. Since then, Shorik's been re-discovering the world after the Djed Storm fallout, and has become eager to expand his horizons beyond the Sylira area.
