While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

"It is always comforting to visit the resting place that is truly at peace."

The Caern is rather unremarkable other than serving as an interesting conversation piece, landmark, and occasional meeting place. Situated in the rolling hills of southern Sylira, fifteen days ride west of Zeltiva, this caern serves as an unidentified grave for many men and women who died shortly after returning to the surface. As ominous as it sounds, these souls have found peace in the cycle of life and are now nothing more than a pile of rocks and bones.

Travelers in this region use this Caern to keep their bearings while traversing the hills, for it stands upon the tallest hill for miles. With such a resting place, the massive stones of the Caern are nearly impossible to miss. Those who see each other from afar while traveling sometimes move to the foot of the Caern as an invitation for the other to come closer. This place is not sacrosanct, and it is just as dangerous as every other area within the Wildlands. However, it is considered a common courtesy to leave the Caern and those standing upon it unmolested.

Among animators, specifically those animators which are not afraid of the taboo against using human body parts, find this place to be a quick fix for their troubles. As there are few inhabitants in this area, they do not run the same risk of discovery that would accompany the robbing of a traditional gravesite. Though the bodies are all decayed to bone, many an enterprising and unscrupulous magician has made use of their remains. On occasion a maledictor will violate the grave, but with all the bones mixed together it is impossible to determine which specimens would be worth collecting.
