Nairani, the Wandering Wind

Nairani
The Wandering Wind of the Desert

Appearance

Race: Benshira
Gender: Female
Age: 18 Years
Birthday: 31, Fall, 495 AV
Birthplace: On the road, approximately 30 miles due south of Yahebah.

Appearance:
Somewhat tall and lithely built, Nairani has a figure that could rival an Olympic runner. She averages 5’5”. Green eyes, vibrant and crystalline in appearance, genuinely rival the preciousness of an emerald. Nairani's skin is a smooth, faint bronze ... almost copper. Her brown hair flows to the stem of her spine and pauses. Her bangs are humorously 'gravity-defying', the right-hand side ‘hovering’ above her right eye and effectively concealing it from view, while a tuft dangles just alongside her left ocular.

Managing a mere 145 pounds in weight, this Benshira is adept at surviving in the desert as the ancestors before her have. Muscles are taut with years upon years of walking and wandering. She is extraordinarily lean and quick on her feet, despite the often hindering qualities of desert sand.

Character Concept

Outgoing in nature and witty to boot, Nairani is your average teenager with a twist. She is certainly kind and caring, and exceptional to humor. Everybody loves a good joke or prank every now and then! She is perfectly at home when surrounding herself with other like minds (or unique ones), deep in conversation or laughing aloud. Yet she likes her solitude and can often be found straying aimlessly about with her mind a million miles away from her current location.

Nairani could best be described as a quick learner. She loves to delve into objects, lores, and religions of all sorts. Facts and fictions are both absorbed like a sponge. Her mind is ever-growing, ever-changing ... and broadening her view on the world about her is making her into a very sharp woman with great intelligence and a heart of gold.

She is also highly defensive of friends, family, and people in need. Naira can drop a childish act in an instant and rise to the defense of a close comrade or stranger. This doesn't necessarily mean that she's any good in a fight, though she is more than willing to take blow after blow until the other person escapes from harm. This Benshira is self-sacrificing: more than willing to lend her last drop of water or scrap of food to a suffering being, even if it means she must go a day or two without nourishment of her own. Nairani is certainly hardy, and extremely courageous in the eyes of danger - facts that make her a prize in the eyes of her people's god, Yahal.

Though she is wary of those of strange races (mainly beast), Nairani is acquiring a sense of curiosity that may or may not benefit her in the end.

Character History

Nairani, from the tents of Koron, of the sons of Jeroab.

Born on the road, Nairani grew up learning quickly. She was heavily attuned to her surroundings at an early age and grew learning the inner workings of her family's lifestyle. Her Tent was more nomadic than some of her people. Naira was constantly on the move ... and grew to tend the land with others. arming what could be farmed, harvesting what could be harvested. Like other Benshiras, she claimed some wariness of beastly races ... but her eyes always turned to watch them as she passed. Growing up, she found her sight was set upon strange lands that came and went in their travels: places far off in the horizon ... lingering views of magnificent cities or lush forests, just out of sight, their full potential hidden.

Her Tent was extremely friendly. Many travelers had gone their way throughout the ages, and most all of them were welcomed with open arms. Through these people, Nairani learned some of the worlds beyond their own. She grew knowing only of the desert, but wanted so much to learn about what else was out there.

As she neared the age of 18, Nairani found herself plagued with dreams of leaving along the open 'roads' of twirling sand dunes. She would wander restlessly, constantly in search of something ... And all the while, something would be behind her. A gentle hand upon her shoulder, pushing her every so slowly across the way. A soft voice in her ear, whispering that the time was coming for her to leave ... Nairani never saw the strange figure within her dreams, though there were times when she would turn her head just slightly ... just enough to catch sight of what could only be wings, deep emerald and beautiful. The Benshira lady never spoke of what she saw. Yet every day that passed sine the dreams began, her green eyes would wander out upon the vast wilderness and her heart would pang painfully against her ribs. Nairani knew what she wanted to do. Part of her mind said that this wasn't just something she wanted to do ... it was something she had to do.

And she would have to act quickly. Her parents were deep in conversation with the parents of another Benshira - a boy by the name of Dranis (who was exceptionally handsome and kind, yes, but ... ) Talk arose of a marriage arrangement - a fact that become concrete when Nairani's mother and father approached her with their conclusion. Deep, unsettling fear kindled within the depths of her chest. Not ready ... not ready! screamed her mind as she went to bed that night with shaking limbs. Sleep never overcame her muddled thoughts, and as the bells slowly passed ... she knew it was time to do what had to be done.

Packing a few essentials and whispering a prayer for guidance towards her god Yahal, Nairani stalked off into the desert night with little more than a satchel of supplies and the clothes upon her back. She knew not where she was going, but the trust she held in the god Yahal was enough to press her onward. What would come would come. What would be would be. And her calling, her true calling, awaited somewhere beyond the vast sandy dunes.

Armanik was eternally grateful to the Tent that had saved his life, and showered them with various gifts to display his gratitude. Upon hearing Nairani singing to herself one morning, Armanik approached her with a small device called a metronome, meant to help her keep in step with whatever tune happened upon her mind.
