Race: Drykas

Physical Description

Representing the steely gaze of Vadim were eyes of a pale yellowish hue, listless in nature and rarely moving, they conceptualized the vast emptiness of eternity with only the smallest of black pupils trapped within their luminous manifest. A fair man to be sure, at the tender age of twenty three he was built hard and crafted of many layers of sinew, the soft flesh gifted at childbirth cast away in favor of a more rugged form. His complexion was light, and shadows were cast upon it by the silken threads which tumbled elegantly from his skull and fell as neat and natural as any stylist could conjure. What then remained to examine was an inferior height, for he stood no taller than the mares he rode, and his legs, though powerful they were, remained short and burdening. He lacked the elegant stride of men he endeared, and his form and presentation was often choppy and aggressive.

He bore fantastic garments, for a silken vest rested against his naked chest and that was covered by a grey tunic with many small white stripes. About his figure was a pure white cloak, blooming with such a hue that the radiance cast upon it often reflected off Vadim as a beacon for several leagues. Skillful embroidering embellished the cloak, though in particular the crest of a horse clutching a diamond within its flat square teeth seemed most prominent, splayed out against the mans back in clear enamor. Deerskin was wrapped over his legs which was hidden from view by more protective leggings pleated with leather especially around the thigh area where Vadim rode against the rise and fall of the saddle. He held in his possession a fine javelin, crafted in alien lands. It rose far above his head when he rode and was held in a harness that did not detract from its beauty. Lastly he wore an earring and riding gloves, things that were of no particular importance.

Windmarks were sparse. Their elaboration was clear, however, in both forearms that contained condensed, jagged spirals that flowed into tail ends which wisped along the bicep and streamed off at the shoulder. His upper-back connected the tattoos from the shoulder in the semblance of wavelike patterns that crested in low arches and dipped deeply.

Character Concept

An inferiority complex suffers Vadim to a point that he is unable to respect those that are taller than him, no matter the man. He seeks to prove dominance over those that are larger, and he tirelessly presses to prove that he can become the greatest rider in Endrykas.

Character History

Through the unlikeliest of circumstances, Vadim was conceived in a manner most expected through Varled, a skilled rider of the Diamond Clan and Dimeter fair maiden of Endrykas. Fleeting moments in drunken stupor created an opportune moment that was clasped, and so the fetus of the young boy did appear in the stomach of Dimeter far before Varled was ever aware. Dimeter mourned the rejection of Varled, who often rode out when he could to avoid the bitter taste of the chains which would soon bound his free spirit to parenthood. The fact became less and less hide able as Dimeter's stomach grew larger, and finally it was that after many moments of agony Varled disappeared in the night with his horse, never to return to Endrykas again. Dimeter was bitter, and the gods scorned her immaturity as the child neared. For, when Vadim came unto the world he fell immediately ill, and his small body could not fight the infection which plagued his body. Dimeter, not wishing to continue her sorrows labored over the child as best she could, but Vadim worsened. The gods had mercy, and their iron will softened. Vadim miraculously recovered in the middle of the night, and was rumored to have slept for a week straight while he grew into a more healthy figure.

The life of Vadim was never easy, and he felt the sting of the god's aftertaste. He never grew as strong or tall as his father Varled and he was often poked fun of by his companions though he retained as much skill as the best of them. He found love in nature and mares as many as his clansmen had, and decided immediately that he would become a rider. Once this decision was made he found himself a white fox, a crafty creature which often sneaked into his tent and ate his food. After he had wrestled it to the ground one night he captured it and tamed it, training it to track further beyond than what is expected of a fox. He named this creature Fetig for the name had a very cunning, but malicious ring to it, and that was what the fox was.

Vadim practiced tirelessly, and by the time he was mature enough he'd gained notoriety for his abilities, but was still harshly criticized for his size. Yet, he showed the clan of diamond that his light weight allowed his horse to run swifter than any creature and that he could sneak up on any prey as easily as any other. His javelin, which Varled left upon his absence, was a powerful weapon which he handled with particular skill for his age. He was allowed into the clan, yet was often left to menial tasks, and still is, even after suffering five years of demeaning effort. At the age of twenty three he pursues an escape from the monotony, and there is small hope that he may reign to become the most powerful of his clan.

Companions

Valdred
Image

Vadim's Strider is Valdred, named appropriately after his father. Within a week of his conception, Vadim was often visited by the horse, and after several of these occurrences it seemed the horse belonged to him. The oddity of this is that while many Striders pick their riders much later, Valdred seemed keen on Vadim from conception. Rumours have spread through Ironfoot pavillion that Valdred himself had passed from the world and that his spirit was implanted within the horse. Speculation suggests that in death he seeks to do what he could not in life; look over his child. The notion is disputed by Dimeter, who with so much spite for her previous lover could never believe such goodness could have existed in such an evil man. There was a time when the phenomenon was quite popular throughout Endrykas, however, and many who could spare time visited the child Vadim and prayed to the horse, one that seemed a good omen to many.

As the years passed Valdred seemed more and more a normal Strider. Many young to-be's had been chosen by their horse, much like Vadim and lost interest in Valdred. To Vadim, however, his horse is the one thing he truly loves more than anything in the world. Through thick and thin Valdred has stood by the man through childhood and his teenage years, and has proven loyal to the bitter end. Their bond remains one that exists in fables. Valdred is a wild horse, and so is to Vadim's wild personality. Near each other, however, they are as complacent individuals as one may find. It is said, though not admitted by Vadim, that Valdred has saved the boy's life on occasions he was alone and without support. With no evidence to back this up, this is seen as exaggeration for the supposed fatherly soul that inhabits the horse.

Fetig

Image

Fetig the fox is described more elaborately in Vadim's history. Important things to note about him are his tranquility, cunning, sense of direction and masterful nose that allows him to track things that even the rider himself cannot. Ever loyal, Fetig never leaves his master's side except when he is thrown into a fit of rage.
