Resicus Moulder

A Grisly Countenance...

Image
Race: Nuit
Gender: Male
Age: 88
Birthdate: 30th of Fall, 424 AV
Birthplace: Ravok
Occupation: Corpse Trader

Appearance:

Moulder was gaunt even when he was living, and tends to favour bodies with the same build as his original one. He prefers older human bodies, looking upon the young and pretty dead with disdain. As such his bodies are thin, wrinkled in the face, with stern aquiline features.
He performs his own special mark on each body, flagellating himself with a cat o’ nine tails retained from his life. The bodies he chooses soon have marked up spines, rot encouraged by the small spines sewn into the back of his jacket.
His feet are unshod, wrapped in white rags to keep the road from tearing up the dead flesh and ruining his ability to walk. His clothes are stained white in places with ichor, ragged and torn. When they were new, they were of a cheap canvas with a white linen shirt underneath. Moulder’s bodies are always on the verge of being uninhabitable, with ragged pale flesh struggling to keep ahold of decomposing muscle and bone.

Character Concept

Moulder, even before his death, was a frugal character who believed in saving every miza he possibly could. He is cold and calculating, devoted to the gold in his pocket and little else. As a Nuit, the use of his immortality is going toward the accumulation of wealth and physical comfort. Moulder is selfish, prissy despite his often advanced decomposition.
The corpse trader is very picky about what stock he chooses to bring with him in his travels, and employs the power of the grapevine to advertise his strengths as a corpse trader.

A History of Apathy

Image
Resicus Moulder began his life as the son of a trader taking advantage of the harsh economy left in the wake of the Valterrian. His father sold anything he could trade for, though often ferried beer and wine between cities under heavy guard. In this way, Resicus was brought up with his mother and father pinching every penny they could, often taking very long roads to avoid hiring guards. They openly gambled with their lives and his, and Resicus’ personality reflects their greed. He grew to dislike and even hate the dusty roads and dangers, his heart growing colder. With each guard and wagon lost due to his father’s driving need to hold onto mizas, Resicus’ disgust for the lost of wealth grew. In time, he promised himself, his wealth would outgrow his parents’ in leaps and bounds. He would be more wealthy than any creature in Mizahar, clawing his way up from ferrying poorly made alcohol to trading slaves and raw metals.
Resicus’ parents’ greed eventually caught up with them in Resicus’ twentieth year of life. Bandits near Syliras destroyed the wagon, stole the goods, and left only Resicus alive. He bartered for his hide with the lives of his parents, which he knew would appeal to the bloodthirsty men driven to a life of thievery. Thus his parents were killed, and Resicus left with only a small amount of gold and his parents’ home in Ravok. Resicus resolved to sell the home and use the money to buy a pair of wagons, draft animals and trade goods. By this, Resicus made a decent living and was fairly happy. He never lived in luxury, and was known as a sour old trader who wouldn’t give an inch on his prices for anyone.

The now sixty year old trader had a good life, and eventually married well. She was a sour-faced harpy who was equally as penny-pinching as himself, and was a fellow Ravok native. There was little love in their marriage; it was more of a merging of small companies than anything else. She was much younger than the old man, attracted by his healthy business. However, Resicus was determined not to die and let his small pile of wealth be absorbed by whomever pleased it…and so set out to have a child in the twilight years of his life. Their daughter, unfortunately, claimed the life of his wife and so Resicus was left alone with the girl. He neglected to give her a name, disappointed by her sex and loud, squalling presence in his peaceful life.
Resicus began to slip into an odd way of thinking, self-hatred at his failure to bear a son twisting his sour soul into a truly dark territory. Physical pain became a shelter, striking at his back with leather thongs tipped in old fish hooks. Scars marred his older flesh, though in his shame never where anyone could witness it. He took pleasure in the self-debasement, spurring more and more scars and marks to sprout on his back.
The trader became a Nuit as a last resort to escape from the life he found himself cornered into. But even then, his daughter waited for him. Resicus, in the end, was still bound to the now year-old babe, who he grudgingly takes care of.

Slight of Hand, But Not Of Mind

Languages

Common
Image
The basic language of all Mizahar residents, Resicus is fluent in Common. His voice is baritone and he often speaks using lofty language, lording his intelligence over people he considers lesser beings.

Vani
Image
While not exactly adequate in the use of the Vani language, Resicus has picked up quite a bit of the musical tongue. It is of Basic skill level.

Skills

Rhetoric
Image Skill: 10/100 (SP)
When able to put his curmudgeonly ways aside, Resicus can be a bit of a persuasive man when it comes to finding the best prices for his goods.

Wilderness Survival
Image Skill: 20/100 (SP)
Due to his frequent wanderings with his parents as a child, Resicus was able to pay attention to how they survived during long journeys between cities. He is quite proficient on his own in the woods.

Land Navigation
ImageSkill: 20/100 (SP)
Another major tenet of the trader is Land Navigation, which is used to find one's way during long roads from town to town. Even off the beaten path, Resicus has a competent sense of where he is spacially, and even if lost can find his way to a settlement.

Enbalming
ImageSkill: 10/100 (RB)
Resicus, like all Nuit, has a basic knowledge of how to preserve the bodies he trades as well as the one he inhabits.

Heirloom

A small, tattered black leather book listing his parents' contacts, as well as his contacts from when he was alive. It now serves as a good way to find out information about the world around him as he travels, as the book contains critical notes on water sources and major game trails in the Sylira region. However, the notes are spotty and vague at times, leading to frustrating off-the-beaten-path episodes.
