Guarding the merchants and their wares

Timestamp: 70th of Summer, 513
It was mid morning in Zeltiva, and the markets where bustling with people wanting to buy various things, and merchants wanting to off-load their wares on buyers and make some mizas. It wasn't just the citizens and merchants who wandered the markets, there was the obvious presence of the Wave Guard.

Fox Xalian, one of the newer members of the Wave Guard, had been assigned the patrol route through the markets. He had been there for a couple of bells, since just before the markets opened at 30 chimes past the 8th bell. His uniform fitted nicely, and the slight breeze that was in the air kept the heat of Summer to a bearable level, although it was still fairly hot. As he walked he paid close attention to the people lingering around certain stalls, just in case they decided to steal something. He didn't doubt something might happen this day.

Summer 513, Day 70
OOCIs it alright if I post here, or did you arrange it with somebody else in mind?
Athinar glanced at the Wave Guard and sighed. He had been moving around, observing everything. That would make this part of the plan even MORE difficult. Moving up to a merchant's stall, he pulled his hood over his head, obscuring his face. Knowing that it was the middle of summer and wearing a cloak and hood in the direct sunlight would attract some attention from around him, he pretended like he was interested in the merchant's wares. The merchant looked at Athinar expectantly, but he just tsked in mock disapproval, and moved on. The poor merchant seemed offended, but it was what he had to do to get this to work. Going to the swordmaker's stall, he stood nearby until it was almost suspicious, the amount of time he spent there. Looking over at the Wave Guard, he tried to see if he had caught his attention.

As Fox walked he took note of the man wearing a hooded cloak in the middle of summer. While it wasn't unusual, it was still something of note, since they where dark colours. It didn't fit, everyone was wearing something a bit more colourful, with lighter colours, with the odd one wearing darker colours. So while it was odd, especially on a day like today, it wasn't to odd that Fox would pay a lot of attention to the man. But the way he seemed to be hanging around the stall quite closely, did seem a bit odd.

Just then a commotion was heard. The baker had just caught a kid trying to steal a loaf of bread. Fox hurried in that direction; an immediate situation took precedence over something that may or may not actually be a problem. "What's going on here?" Fox asked. The baker looked up at Fox, and so did the kid, who stopped struggling to escape. "This Eat Street hooligan just stole a loaf of bread!" the baker said. Fox looked down at the kid. "And why would you do this?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "Because I'm starving; I haven't eaten in three days" the child, a girl by the sound of her voice, said. Fox thought for a second and pulled out his coinpurse. "How much for the bread?" he asked.

The baker was taken aback by this, but after a couple of seconds he replied. "F-five copper mizas, sir" he stammered. Fox handed the money over to the baker. "Give the child the bread, I have paid for it for her" he said. The baker, and some of the bystanders looked shocked. The girl looked up at Fox, her eyes wide with happiness. "R-really?" she asked. Fox nodded, the girl gave him a quick hug, thanked him, took the bread the baker handed her and ran off to eat. "Why did you do that?" one of the men who was watching said. Fox looked up, smiling softly. "I did what anyone would've done" he said, to the entire crowd rather then the one person. As the crowd dispersed Fox went back on his patrol, looking once more for the possibly suspicious man, and any other things that may have been out of place.

Athinar grinned grimly at his luck. Some random street rat had attempted to steal a loaf of bread. Not classy to take advantage of children's plights, but Athinar worked with what he had. Moving next to the stall, he picked up an iron short sword like he was examining it, and with the swordsmith's eyes on the spectacle across the street, he stuffed it below his cloak and started walking quickly away. Just as he passed the Wave Guard that caused the incident, the merchant noticed that a sword was missing, and made the connection between Athinar and the missing blade. Wincing as a cry of, "Stop that thief!" called out, he started sprinting through the crowd, black cloak flapping behind him. Pulling the hood even lower, he didn't want anyone to see his face. If he could only get to a quiet place for a moment, he could put on one of his disguises.

Fox heard the sword merchant yell out, and looked around for the thief, then saw him sprinting away. "Halt! In the name of the Wave Guard!" he yelled as he gave chase. People moved out of his way as he chased after the thief, intent on catching him, and hopefully bringing him to justice. He was only in his uniform, and the only weight was his shield, which only slowed him down a bit. He had conditioned himself to the weight of the shield since he had trained with one for as long as he could remember.

"If you don't stop running it'll only get worse for you!" he yelled as he started to catch up with his target. He then had an idea. Once he got close enough, he raised his shield and took a longer step then usual, turned his shoulder and shield arm towards the thief, and pushed the shield forward in an attempt to hit him with the shield and hopefully know him off balance.

Athinar heard the guard running close behind him. Grimacing, he thought, Hmm. The uniform doesn't slow him down. This is bad. "If you don't stop running it'll only be worse for you!" the guard shouted to Athinar, trying to get him to stop. Shaking his head, he smiled. Did he really think that he would?

Getting hit from behind, apparently with the guard's shield, he stumbled for a few steps, slowing him down enough to the point where he was within arm's reach. Turning around, he attempted to whip his black cloak across the guard's face to conceal his next move. If this was successful, he was going to try and twist the shield from his grasp, under cover of cloak.

Fox ducked as the cloak was whipped across his face, but even this gave the thief a small advantage, as Fox had to straighten up to really do anything. As he did, the cloak still obscured his vision, giving the thief even more of an advantage. He also took a step back and, as he did, drew his scimitar. "You can't escape, thief, surrender, and I wont have to take you in by force" he said. He was determined to arrest this man, even if it meant using violence to get his way. He watched the man carefully.

Athinar saw the Wave guard unsheath his scimitar, and move back, looking at him carefully. Drawing the stolen short sword, Athinar said, "You know, I'd really rather not fight you." Slashing clumsily downward at the hilt of the man's sword, he stumbled backwards a bit, not used to handling the type of weapon. "If you knew why I took this, then you probably wouldn't have tried to stop me."

Guarding the merchants and their wares

Postby Alex Cromwell on August 10th, 2013, 2:50 pm

Alex moved through the streets of Zeltiva, trying to get to The Kelp Bar. He needed a drink, and quick. His hangover was not treating him well. It felt like three Zith were pounding on his head with steel claws. As he dodged people walking by, Alex decided that he would cut through the merchant stalls. After all, it was a shortcut, and they might have something to cure his hangover. As he turned the corner into the area, he stopped in his tracks. Two men, one a Wave Guard, the other, a black cloaked figure, had their weapons draw, and were exchanging blows. Alex was surprised. Fighting, this early in the morning? The sounds of metal on metal were making his headache worse. He was going to stop this.

Alex pulled off his fur cloak, it was too hot for it anyway, and stuffed it into his bag. He then dropped the bag next to a fruit vendors stall. The vendor nodded at him that he would make sure his bag was safe. Alex then cracked his knuckles and drew his two silver daggers. He lined up his throw, judged the wind speed, gauged the distance between him the cloaked figure, and then let fly. He aimed for the figure's legs. He had no intention of getting arrested for murder this early in the day.

Athinar straightened up, at a ready stance, waiting for the Wave Guard to attack, when two knives came flying from behind him. One hit the back of his calf and slashed across it, causing a medium cut. The other was
a bit off course, so it clattered to the pavement in front of Athinar. Whipping around, he saw a pale, red eyed man standing next to a fruit vendor's stall. Frowning, Athinar thought, This is getting out of hand. I need to leave NOW. Looking like he was going to charge at the pale man, he suddenly changed direction and climbed on top of the merchant's stall, looking around for a way onto the nearest building. Sighting a dilapidated home about seven feet away, he grimaced. It would be a long jump, but he couldn't risk being arrested.
